The first bump since October and it's not even about Dayz....
Has nothing really happened with the game for a while? I haven't played it since just after vehicles were added, i've had a look at the updates a few times after that but i'm sure what's been done since then.
if it's any consolation, the developers are aiming at a release of 0.61 to stable before Christmas
if you didn't know already, one notable part of the update is that it's going to include a new, much more realistic sound system for gunshots, using the one released for Arma 3 with the Eden update
[editline].[/editline]
it's already being tested on the experimental branch, by the way
The sound update will be amazing. With my gameplay listening for footsteps and zombie growls is very important.
Also they are adding aggressive doggos.
Zombies are everywhere. Holy shiz nits. I mean they can be derby at times but now stealth is necessary. With the addition of all of these zombies and the advanced sound system the game is loads better.
If you got tired of the "everyone packed up and left" simulator, give the game a go now. Join me in eating people.
An update came out?
ya
well, is it gud?
well, is it gud?
It's better. Remember those days of finding a string of zombies ending with a dude holding a Lee einfield, dead?
That's possible now.
well, is it gud?
well i've seen more zombies in one 2-hour session than I have over the course of the rest of my 42 hours with the SA
so that's a step forward
all in all, decent optimization, zombies existing, a decent amount of items and weapons, an updated map, a functional loot spawning system
honestly, as soon as vehicles are back in, and are functional, the SA will be all around better than the mod. Cause it wasn't (all around) up to this point if I'm being perfectly honest, but that's not an easy comparison to make, because the mod was a lot simpler, and through that it was a lot easier to make it all work together as a whole game.
Beyond this point we'll need some more goals however, because as you all know right now it's a matter of getting loot and then there's nothing to do, and the walking simulator aspect doesn't help (which vehicles hopefully will resolve)
personally i'm waiting for the promised single-player, but I imagine that's ways off if it even comes at all
Few weeks old but might as well post it:

Coming in 0.62: Visual overhaul

I played 0.61 on the experimental branch and I honestly have to say, desync and hotbar functionality really has gotten a lot better. I don't feel like I'm struggling against myself anymore, which, along with desync fixes is honestly a quality of life change that makes DayZ much more enjoyable to play and fight in. The fact that they're polishing these very old, persistent issues out of existence makes me optimistic for the state of the final product (whenever that may be, lmfao)
New animation system, new player controller, yes! The direction of the new forests look promising, 0.62 is looking good.
Anybody playing on 0.61 stable?
I just realized this game has been in early access for foooooooooooooour years, wow....

Not much news this time around. I just hope the vault system gets thrown out and replaced with actual jumping.
I just realized this game has been in early access for foooooooooooooour years, wow....
you can say that only after December of this year, since the game was released so late in 2013

No one survives DayZ
God damn I love this update. Really revitalized my love for the game. Not just that but I've been super lucky, first house I entered I found a shotgun and then got attacked seconds later, surviving and finding a tent in a cave. Fine work devs.
edit: they also changed the insane amount of sway after running for aiming your gun. That should really help in gunfights. Also bananas spawn again, yey
did that update add to gameplay in any way at all?
did that update add to gameplay in any way at all?
I mean, sort of. the gun sway being reduced is pretty big because it's not going to take 5 years for your character to stop swaying super hard, and the new grass allows more hiding locations for avoiding people. I've already had a few times where I felt like I was in an action movie and avoided travelling death bands of guys in military gear. Other than that, no not really. But it wasn't supposed to, only 5% of the dev team is working on 0.62 and the rest are working on .63, which will be huge and adds in mod support.
Is it back to 15 FPS with that new grass and trees?
Do we even have access to the server files to host our own servers yet? Is that coming with .63?
Is it back to 15 FPS with that new grass and trees?
No, for most of the players it's the same, if not better. If it is worse, delete your config file in your user documents (that's if you do want to try it)
Do we even have access to the server files to host our own servers yet? Is that coming with .63?
I'm not aware of that, however. I'm not experienced in server hosting.

Here's an example of that gameplay change with the new grass that was added and reworked ghillie, I won't spoil anything, just watch till the end if you want to see how the new grass can actually change gameplay.

Really upset to hear they've missed numerous milestones again for the sake of handplacing millions of trees. I'm not usually one to complain about DayZ's slow development but all this waiting for a new ghillie suit and prettier forests is downright disgusting.

Well, I'll be the one to inform you because I read status reports. The forests update, as I stated above is only done by 5 percent of the team. Everyone else is working on Beta/0.63.
