How about making it not super stiff and awkward, like the A3 engine.
which is what they're planning to do with the new animation system that's currently only on zombies for exp. they finally have animation blending which hopefully should mean we should see a less clunky movement system with things like weapon switching while running freely etc.
Found the hackers. Didn't care about ~10 sks rounds and 6 shotgun blasts 10 meters away.
I hate the movement though, you slightly go left and end up running off a building, is that ever going to be sorted out? I know Arma 2 has it in, but this is supposed to be a stand alone game so...
Alright, i've seen some day z SA video's. And i am seeing people messing with the FOV to use as more zoom. Isn't this a bit cheating? Same goes for adjusting the brightness at night mode. I think it's a bit lame though.......but what do you think? Is it cheating? Unfair?
It's lame as hell, but I'd hardly call it cheating. Also, I've been playing this game for 120+ hours and for the first time I met a player who didn't KoS. He was in Kamyshovo with a friend gathering goods from glitched loot spawns and putting them in backpacks for travelers to take. It was the coolest thing, and I hope the future updates build around cooperation rather then competition. I'm doing a medic right now (red raincoat, blue cargo pants and a small supply of medical equipment for emergency procedures), and I've already died twice because of fuken KoS. I carry a revolver for safety, but if I don't have a visible gun then it's probably not worth shooting me :c
People who actually want to cooperate instead of play a deathmatch are the best.

I've actually found it more fun to join the most populated servers and just stay in one big city.

Anyone know any good, fairly populated, servers that encourage cooperation or not at least shooting on sight? I don't think in all my time of playing this game that I've used voice chat with another because I'm dead before I can..
IMO? Mad cheating.
nah man i once stopped a camper in electro by upping my fov to see them more clearly firing from the fire department, and was able to score headshots on them. keep in mind that i did it because we were having a sniper battle, not that i was protecting the citizens of the town or anything. i killed anyone who came up to the roof i was on lol.
it isn't worth explaining to you how fucking weird your track of mind is [editline]17th March 2015[/editline] actually, let me do so in classic FP fashion "messing with the fov is cheating" "no it isn't, i just use it to gain an advantage occasionally"
yeah but it's not like chivalry where people use cheap tricks to win duels all the time. sure, some people play purposely with fov zoomed in max to be able to see far but others like myself use it for when the necessity arrives.

If you want that then you are better off applying for DayZ RP or something like that. Public servers have no right enforing rules. Sure they may say like "be friendly" "dont kos" or some lame ass fucking bullshit like that but they have no right kicking/banning people for KOS since its a public server. Lmao, why is everyone such a hard ass about KOS? Its a fucking sandbox game.
Found and AUG at my first American crash site woowoooooo. Have 300 rounds of 5.56 as well. I wonder how many I will have a chance to use before I get killed
Found and AUG at my first American crash site woowoooooo. Have 300 rounds of 5.56 as well. I wonder how many I will have a chance to use before I get killed
I was in the same situation and got exactly 0 shots off before I was KoS'd by a guy I didn't even see.
Lmao, why is everyone such a hard ass about KOS? Its a fucking sandbox game.
There are a million sandboxes out there where I can kill other players for sport. Day Z is one of a few games that has the potential for much more meaningful player interaction since it is very likely that you can go 3+ hours without ever running into anyone, making each encounter that much more suspenseful, but also far more rewarding even if you die. One of my favorite experiences was in the mod when I joined up with a group (all of us were complete strangers, just met up and didn't shoot eachother on sight) and we decided to have a race to the other side of Lingor Island. My group found a bus and we ended up accidentally running over the other team while they were on the road :v: Much more memorable in my opinion then any short gunfight or any extended sniper battle where you have no idea if the other player disconnected or not.

But PvP is fun too. What would be dangerous in this game if there were no KOS? I have had awesome experinces with meeting random players, but its also fun to take down 2 diffrent squads when its just me and 2 friends.
I suppose it's that unknown human factor that makes every human interaction that tense. I'll complain about it all I want, but in the end that tension is what makes Day Z so unique from other games. That being said, I still would like to see design choices that reward cooperation. The way blood transfusions and defibrillators are handled is a great example. [editline]17th March 2015[/editline] Making the zombies harder to handle (whether it's shear numbers of them, or that they're hard to kill) would be the lazy way to do it, and I feel like base building options will backfire. Arbitrary steps in the crafting system might help, making components for various items harder to find and encouraging players to share what they have, but that could just as easily backfire. I dunno, but at least the devs have plenty of people to help collect playtest data so that they can make good decisions.
Yeah I get what you are saying.
personally the FOV thing is a bit gimmicky (admittedly I was one of the first people to do that back around when dayz was first released, but I did it because my settings don't render playermodels after a certain distance, only the weapons on their back or hands show), but it's less "cheaty" and gimmicky than the third person look around corners thing in that it has a negative downside, that being little to none situational awareness if someone manages to get the drop on you.
I would play exclusively on first person servers if I didn't get headaches from the frame rate. Looting is much more fun in first person. It's like playing that one creepy flash game where you're locked in a room and you have to search for shit to get out of it (the name escapes me). Very rewarding when you spot something you probably would have missed (bullet stacks) had you been in third person. It's also waaaaaay more unnerving to turn and see somebody all of a sudden. First person also makes tracking your friend group much easier IMO, as you pay closer attention to character detail. Hyped for the zombie update, but realistically it's going to make gameplay worse until the game is switched to the new engine (IF that fixes fps issues).

I think the devs are hesitant to add more forced cooperation elements like those you mentioned because they don't want to feel like they're forcing players into a certain play style - DayZ's freedom has always been its success, after all. However I think the game currently is so biased mechanically towards KOS that more forced coop features may be necessary to give a more friendly play style a fighting chance. Base building will only encourage banditry - most of us learned this from the mod. You come near our base, you get killed. This is our base. We've got all the gear we need. Go away. We don't like strangers around here. More zombies, more intelligent zombies, less bullets (for military-grade weapons at least) and more cooperative gameplay features like medical procedures etc. will go a long way towards making DayZ a generally better place for everybody. Server-optional side chat wouldn't go amiss either. I really miss the old feel of the mod back in its infancy when running into another player was a genuinely tense 'this could go either way' situation. We should be doing all we can to bring this back. It's seriously hard though, I can't think of many things they could add to increase player cooperation that wouldn't backfire into yet more material for people to horde. Been playing on an Epoch server. It's good fun, but I keep dying. ;_; Does anyone here play the original mods?
Really bored of DayZ Standalone now. I've seen FrankieOnPC play some Arma 3 DayZ mods that look pretty cool. Anyone here have any experience with them?

I love the Solnichniy factory spawn, so easy to loot up going orlovets -> polana. Even on high pop servers there is always loot, and nobody around. People must not realize its so close to that area and just go to Berezino and head toward Elektro. Also apparently those big four story construction sites can spawn 1911 mags lol found one just then.
Anyone play Last Chance Epoch? I just started playing on there recently. Gearing up to become a trader with my old pickup truck. A guy I know has a BTR so we're gonna roll around in style.
Had some Heinz baked beans for dinner. I can see why people kill over baked beans now. Edit: I FULLY REGRET EATING BAKED BEANS.
