Warcraft 3 Enthusiasts Thread - Games

Man i loved the fuck out of WC3 custom games. it's a shame i lost my RoC key, i have my TFT tied to my bnet. :v: best game ever was warcraft RISK. i filled up teldrassil with archers and turtled.

Warcraft 2 will always hold a special place in my heart. I could play that game for hours as a kid, and even though I would build the stupidest shit ever I had hella fun doing it.

By chance, Yesterday I found this old mod I thought that was forever lost: (This video shows an older version) [media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1p7zP-uRx04[/media] Warcraft: Dawn of Chaos, it was meant to be a remake of Warcraft I in WC3, but it was never fully finished. It's still playable, and there is two maps for it: A multiplayer one, and the first mission of WC1. Here is a download link for it. [url]http://www.architect.nexfiles.com/WC/DoC.rar[/url] You just have to merge the three folders in it, and put that folder in "Warcraft III/Maps". To play the mod just execute DoCMPv11.exe. It doesn't overwrite anything, so it won't cause any problems with WC3 itself.

Yesterday Blizzard announced that today they are reseting it again and reverting the map pool to the previous one (The maps they picked weren't really that great/fun, with a few also having some serious gamebreaking flaws.). I use to play this for hour upon hours on Hero Wars. But nobody plays that game type anymore :(

Man, alot of my early teenage years were spent hosting and playing custom maps when warcraft was in it's prime. I miss me some of those maps like Island troll tribes or orc gladiators. There's a /v/ group floating around somewhere that still gets together to play some custom maps, but alot of the good ones were nuked from existence once Blizzard released a few patches that broke alot of them.

If I'm not wrong they did it because people were abusing the system to download and install viruses and keyloggers. A lot of good maps and scripts were lost with that update.

I see a lot of Vampirism and DOTD/NOTD maps hosted by bots, and the occasional Line Tower Wars or similar TD maps. Sucks you can hardly find any classic Maul maps hosted nowadays. Those were always my favorite.

Life of a Peasant for days. That was for some reason my go to custom game when i was younger. Or Hero Arenas, would hang about there. Although, i wasnt that smart when it came to playing the game. I was pretty terrible. I dont quite get how to play something like Footman Frenzy... Or the entirety of Warcraft at that matter. Blizzard missed a huge opportunity with the custom game scene for Starcraft, although i dont know if its been improved today, somehow i doubt it.

I also loved some Trolls vs. Elves though, that one was probably my favorite. Didn't play too much TD or Line Tower Wars. I think the only TD I played was the winter looking one, don't remember the name though.

Anyone remember the island troll tribes maps? Those and the other survival maps were always a blast if you had a good buddy to help you out. Does anyone here still play custom games regularly?

Played a lot of Wintermaul Wars and Hero Line defense - I remember playing a lot of other maps, but I mostly played with other people at my youth club, so we basically rotated between the maps people liked. Haven't played online for a very long time, partly because I registered my license code on the blizzard site and I can't remember my account details.

I decided to try and play through the campaign again, but then I realized how bad I was at RTS games. I tend to spend too much time just standing around waiting for resources / units to finish. What should I be doing in the meantime?

Sheep and Tree tag were so awesome and one of the last kind of custom games not to be tapped by a mod community or indie dev imo. I'm sure theres some shitty gmod modes out that are similar, but I doubt they compare.
