Was not expecting this game to have a patch after all these years. Time to put this CD drive into use, I guess, but I hope all those obscure maps I remember didn't break.
For the record, Island Defense exists on SC2, but it doesn't quite have the same charm
I remember playing a 12 man match of Summoning Wars against other FP'ers back in the day. That was fun as fuck.
I would play HeroWars for hours back in the day. Loved that custom map. I want that into a stand-alone game. Although that’s basically hoTS
I always like those builder maps, heroes and empires, bug wars and empire builder so on..
Edit: Custom Castle Defence
heroes and empires
I loved Heroes and Empires, man, I gotta find that map again.
WC3 customs were generally pretty elitist, since most came with little to no tutorial and most maps were team-oriented in some way
You would get kicked if you had to DL the map. I often wonder if Island Defense and other similar games of that type (werewolves, vampires, etc.) could be adapted into a standalone.
Certainly if you were a game dev in need of ideas, WC3 would be the place to look. So much creativity. Ah, the nostalgia.
Speaking of WC3 maps made into standalones, Darwin Project is basically Winter Troll Tribes with a Hunger Games Overseer/Director

Genuinely would host it, however i'd like to really know if someone has made it 24 player assuming that's possible with the new patch.
if someone has made it 24 player
24 player has only been in PTR for a few days, not released I doubt any of the major maps support 24 players, yet, least of all a relatively obscure one with no players.
But i want empire building maps and tower defence as 24 players.
I just jumped into the Island Troll Tribes discord and searched for "24"

Dear god they're actually doing it, the madmen!
Anyone ever play Island Defense? Probably one of my favorite gaming experiences of all time.
i loved that game mode since there were so many strats to play

I tried to get back into ID, the community was just as toxic as ever
Screaming at you and then throwing the game and/or ragequitting if anyone makes even a single slip-up.
Doesn't really help that the entire map is now built around the toxic "pro" community, where if the Titan gets any help at all in the early game, the game is pretty much already over.
When a builder dies, their titan minion isn't even theirs now, the punish system where the titan could take the minion is now the default setting.
The absolute pinnacle of high quality map making.

Anyone up for a few 1v1s on classic maps? If you're bold and adventurous we can try 2v2 AT too.

ya thats exactly the same vein of elitism that filled DoTA up with "pro" mechanics.
It's hard to believe that 16 years later, this game is still going strong.
I guess there had never really been any super-customizable RTS alternatives out there. I should pick this game up again sometime.
Final changelog for 1.29 (the update went live on battle.net the other day): https://us.battle.net/forums/en/bnet/topic/20762137149
Changelog for 1.30: https://us.battle.net/forums/en/bnet/topic/20765647087
There's a lot of balance changes and fixes with this update, including an updated anticheat, support for vJass with JassHelper in the world editor, tech tree rebalances, and actual changes to the maps and units.
i'd die for some WC4 teasers tbh
Are they actually making a WC4? I thought they said they never would
i haven't seen a post to the contrary, and i know there's a good following of people that are hyped for one
AFAIK they haven't denied that they would
bFA would have been a good time for Warcraft 4. While WoW players go on their tropical cruise to Kultiras and Zandalar, they could have had the factions go to war on the mainlands in an RTS
I play a little bit of Heroes of the Storm, and its most recent map gives a great preview of what WC4 could be
I don't think we'll ever see another Warcraft rts, but if we get a decent remaster of 3 I'd be happy.
or just make it an alternate universe, bam, now you have literally no restrictions
I really don't think they are really planing to make a WC4, otherwise they'd have made one by now.
Another update for that 1.30 update: https://us.battle.net/forums/en/bnet/topic/20766756974
More rebalances and some fixes.
A cut and paste from the WoW thread, since I hadn't found this one until today.
I'm wanting to play the original Warcraft trilogy. For a totally different game series, Myth, you have the option of playing Myth 1 in Myth 2's engine. Is there a mod that lets you do something similar with Warcraft 1 & 2 in Warcraft III?
Otherwise, does that mean Warcraft 1 and 2 are vaporware (I haven't been able to find them legitimately.) and Blizzard is charging $10 for Warcraft III's base game and another $10 for its DLC?
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
