Man, GTA4's hand to hand fighting is so much better, especially since you dont take 2 seconds to wind up a punch, Rockstar please add fighting style options.
Is the MC update any good? I haven't checked it out yet.
I'd say it really depends on what you're looking for in an update.
The clubhouses offer a neat alternative to VIP work that supports up to eight players in one MC. The businesses are basically self-producing CEO warehouses, but with fewer risks which means it isn't complete dogshit like the warehouses. Most of the bikes in the update are not that great for racing, but if you don't care about racing, they can be pretty nice to have for chilling in freemode. The weapons are pretty much shit except for the compact grenade launcher and in some cases, the sweeper can be okay too. Also, this update introduced a "favorite bike" feature where the bike you ride the most will give you full health regeneration while riding it which is pretty nice.
I personally think it's an okay update, but I can imagine that not everybody would like it.

They should expand upon hand to hand. It'd be nice if melee switched you over to a side view and It'd be reminiscent of a fighting game, a bit like uncharted 2 I guess.
The ability to instantly request any bike you own right next to you, without having to run half a mile or destroy your existing personal vehicle first, is the best feature in this update imo

It's saved me from hauling my ass over to the insurance building so many times. (And from asshats who insist on hunting me down.)
edit: Speaking of which, why is it that there's only one insurance building on that entire map?

With the amount of expensive cars they give you after they've been destroyed, they can't afford to spend that extra money on another building.

After you've called the insurance company you can just request your vehicle

Really tempted to buy gtav on pc (on sale) (I reaaaaally don't like paying for psplus) but I can't bring myself to doing it when almost every single one of the "most helpful" and a decent bit of the recent reviews state that they've been banned randomly for no particular reason.
Thoughts?
edit: Also, is transferring your characters still disabled?

Can't deny the 1% off-chance that happening since GTA:O customer support is a shit show but it's highly unlikely if you doesn't tamper with your bank balance with cheat

there's an option to ask for character transfers when you submit a support ticket.
I imagine your eventual transfer request will be accepted if your characters don't look illegitimate, and if that's what you have to do to get your characters transferred.
Won't go on sale again until Christmas, so if you're already up for it, now's the time. We still do events like yesterday.

My character (guy on the left) looks so retarded when he smiles.
My character (guy on the left) looks so retarded when he smiles.
My guy literally looks like a rapist when he smiles and I'm yet to see a character that isn't the same way. Expressions of online characters aren't really strong suit of this game.

You should see my character smiling

Oh wow, I just did one of the Cracked club contracts, and I actually got to go inside the Lost clubhouse and crack open their safe. Such a shame that they added that new interior, but only let us access it for like five minutes during the mission.

I highly suspect this place was meant to be a purchasable by the players but cut off afterwards. It has everything the other clubhouses have : bar, garage, arm wrestling stand, meeting table, darts etc. It also has a room with a huge, blank frame on the wall, similar to heist planning rooms.

You've been running to the insurance building every time you reclaim a car?
bro...
I don't even know where the insurance building is because the first time I just tried calling the mechanic to bring my car over and it worked.
On the note of strange, redundant design... Does anyone else feel like GTAV's smartphone wasn't meant to be something you have at the start of the game? Or have at all?
Basically, you have a bunch of in-world features like ATMs, stationary computers for internet and email, job markers on the map (GTAO) and so on, and the phone just goes and makes all of them pointless. I understand why you're able to do those things on the phone - because you can in real life - but the fact the in-world alternatives still exist at all feels really weird, like they just consolidated all of those features into a fancy popup menu because playtesters whined or something, and didn't bother removing the originals.

But not having a phone in 2013 would be weird for a mid 20s guy in LA.
But not having a phone in 2013 would be weird for a mid 20s guy in LA.
My question isn't why your character would have a smartphone, because of course they would, my question is why does it copy the functionality of existing objects in-world to an equal or better extent, while those objects haven't gone anywhere?
There's no reason for ATMs or laptops to even do anything other than be decorations, yet they're still just sat there, totally oblivious to the fact they'd been replaced long before the game came out.
I remember when the game first came out and all my friends and I were super careful to get to an ATM to deposit our money from missions but then we figured out we could just use our phones and it kinda made it lame
Y'know, the whole phone redundancy thing is an example of what I like to call "spaghetti design", where you have a bunch of different aspects of a game overlapping eachother during development, and rather than trim away the ones that don't work or aren't fun when they learn they don't work or aren't fun, they instead leave these dead ends to tangle amid the rest and become buried as development progresses, content in the idea that removing them would be too much work and nobody will use them anyway.
GTA as a series is the king of spaghetti design, or would at least share its throne with Pokemon.
I mean, even far after the game is released they still include those weird design elements, like the function laptops in executive offices that serve no real purpose,
Having laptops and ATMs is rather useless, but they're things that add detail to the world at least. The ATMs in Los Santos are used for one of the CEO challenges where you steal cash from ATMs around the map.
Think about it like this, why do we need slow compact cars and sedans when you could drive a supercar 24/7? (people do that anyway but that's not the point.)
Man the rewards and punishments in GTA online are a complete joke.
"You blew up that guy's car ? Bad sport ! Pay up his insurance, and don't forget your dunce hat."
"What's that ? The same guy blew up your cargo and reduced hours of your efforts and spendings to nothing ? We'll make sure he gets fairly rewarded for that."

Fair enough, but I wish there was an actual incentive to use the map elements rather than the phone for everything.
Like, maybe mobile deposits process next in-game business day, or web pages take longer to load versus on a computer. Something that adds pros/cons while still being believable.

Make it so that your provider [DEL]is t-mobile [/DEL] has shit coverage as such you cant use your phone indoors or anywhere but los santos proper.
Or charge for "using data".
Edit:
And yes I do usually go to the auto insurance place or exploit the fact that your car gets put in your garage on mission starts.
I'm weird like that.

Why though?
Because visiting an ATM to quickly deposit money or heading home to order a new car would be markedly more interesting than just beep booping on your phone while standing around.
Both of these things would also promote grater familiarity with map landmarks (particularly unmarked ones) and help to disperse players a bit more on average. You'd be surprised where some ATMs and laptops are.
[editline]t[/editline]
I mean, with all these fast cars, bikes, helicopters and planes, it's not like it's hard to navigate the map or anything.
