Grand Theft Auto Series Megathread V11 - SERIOUS RP ONLY

yesterday when I was doing Fleeca with my friend again I was driving at like 70 mph in Lester's car from the first setup on the highway and when we were about to merge into 1 lane an NPC car essentially did a maneuver that can only be done intentionally, to make my car spin out
like, no responsible driver wouldn't slow down and let me merge first in that situation, the other car had enough time to realize what was happening and slow down
I just drive by one simple rule: Never ever rely on the AI to act rationally. It keeps me out of crashes most of the time.
Best way to go is to drive a motorcycle in my opinion. Easier to dodge cars swerving toward you and allows you to drive on the side of the road far easier without hitting signs.
whenever I drive a motorcycle really fast someone ends up swerving into me or I T-bone into someone that came out of nowhere :pudge::
you know, i've been thinking
maybe the reason for the general simplification of the physics and tech stuff is because online was the main deal all along, and r* wanted to optimize it

That would make sense if the physics were server side. Also, I'm really not seeing any simplification.

Well, compare them to GTA IV or RDR. Euphoria and Vehicular physics seem to be very simplified/restricted when compared to previous titles.

The Vehicle physics weren't simplified. Rockstar reduced car body roll and increased overall grip and cornering. Those aren't simplified, it's a change of direction from the previous game.
Euphoria is actually used differently between SP and MP. In SP it acts basically the same way it did in GTAIV, if memory serves me correctly. MP has reduced effects, probably to counter act desynced information between clients and to consequently reduce ragdoll teleporting.

That happened regardless, and I think it does mask the technical downgrade a bit. It still is fairly apparent for someone who regularly plays GTA IV as well though. The literal non-existence of suspension and crumpling being two examples. (keeping in mind that crumpling in gta iv was a bit over the top and tweaking it somewhat was needed, but in gta v it might as well been removed entirely. The suspension is actually in a similar situation, now that I think about it, it was way to jelly-like in GTA IV for some cars - although appropriate for others)

I don't think so, peds react completely different on being shot, and even on being run over by cars. There are also bits missing like shooting weapons out of hands and a "hurt" status. Half-ragdoll is a rare sight compared to IV aswell, mostly the peds just hit the ground rock hard like they're being tazed. And even if it happens, it seems tuned down for the worse.
It would only make sense to simplify it even further in the multilayer component.
That crowbcat video comes to mind, although It is nitpicky at times, and sometimes gta v does in fact look better, but it does a fair job at presenting the topic at hand. The melee comes to mind - GTA IV's melee was a fucking joke, it's better to just not have melee combat it at all like in GTA V to be totally honest. Obviously a functional melee system would be optimal but oh well.

Basically the trend is that instead of tweaking and fine tuning various technical aspects in GTA V, R* simply dumbed them the hell down. I like to think R* wouldn't just not put effort into it, so the Online thing seems to make sense.

Hurt state is in SP, they just die after a few seconds unlike 4.
Cops can be injured and they'll lay on the ground and keep shooting.
IIRC Paramedics are still programmed to help injured state NPCs, but rarely get to do it. I've seen them help up cops, which again is rare because most of the time a gun fight is still going on and they'll just run away.

But you can't, say, knock someone out with melee. They always die instantly.
If you own a Street Blazer and haven't taken it out into the snow yet, do it
It's fuckin great

If you pistol whip a guy and then shoot him in the head you will notice that you get a "kill" hitmarker, so people are definitely counted as knocked out. They just can't be woken up.
Hurt state is also in MP, it's just really rare to see it. If you shoot someone enough and their ragdoll is leaning against a wall or something, they'll stand up kind of hunched over holding their chest with their pistol out.
On the topic of GTAV vs GTAIV again, I loved how driving in GTAIV took a gentle touch on the pedals (the brake especially) to drive efficiently. Slamming the brakes instantly would make you lose traction and skid (just like in real life) as opposed to V where you have to almost guaranteed be in the rain or on dirt/sand to lose traction that way. You would need to ease on the brake (again, just like in real life) in order to keep your traction.
I hate how you can control cars in mid-air in V too. It makes oversteer way too easy to correct and IMO it very rarely makes stunts impressive and therefore they kind of lose their fun.
That's just my shitty opinion, though
Brake locking is still simulated in GTA 5, it's just that most of the cars are modelled after new ones and thus are given strong, efficient ABS. You could also control cars in midair in GTA 4 too, the only difference to 5 is that now you can unflip your car in 5.

and they leave a giant pool of blood, as customary to being knocked out?

Not anything like you can in V
Not anything like you can in V
You can still do a total flip and right your car in mid-air. The key is that in IV you have to let off the throttle, if you do that it's just as strong as in V. Holding A to handbrake even lets you do a flat-spin like GTA V if I remember right.
Well, air control is something I do not mind to be honest. It's pretty fun

I like how a GTA game released 12 years ago (SA) has more enjoyable melee combat with different forms of fighting styles you could get than a game released 3 years ago.
I played SA recently and I actually had fun using the melee combat, while I despise it in V.

literally never seen them pool blood unless actually killed, unless my ps3 and ps4 copies have been bugged since game launch and not showing me blood when I knock npcs out
Uh, so on the MC resupply mission when you have to intimidate a guy, you can kill him now if you go to hard on him. Before this update, I could've sworn that you could just keep wailing on him forever.

Drive with a controller, it's so much better.

Fuck that Mission. It's boring
Fuck that Mission. It's boring
MC stuff in general is pretty boring. Even with a group helping you, it feels especially grindy.

One of the funny things I've discovered is the melee attack with throwables like grenades equipped. If you go up to an NPC and press the melee button, if you're close enough, you'll perform a certain punching melee attack in the same vein as melee attacks with guns, the animation execution type that can't be blocked.
But if you're within striking distance, but too far to actually lock that NPC into the animation execution, you'll instead sort of clobber them with the grenade where if it touches that NPC, they'll stumble on their feet a few moments, then collapse, die, and leave a pool of blood. Even more funny if you do it with a tear gas grenade, it causes the NPCs to cough like they're being affected by the gas itself.
It's funny seeing them stumble on their feet for a few moments after you tap them on their arm with a grenade. Most NPCs are killed by it, but I've seen some survive it and stay on the ground for a while before standing back up.

Even tho SA had diverse fighting, I prefered guns. Why bother punching a dude for half a minute, when you can just shoot him in his head. Maybe I'm just boring.
Nah sucker punching the shit out of people in V and letting physics take over is way more funny than the arcadey idiot slap fight you had in previous games that took forever
better than gta iv anyway
[editline]1st January 2017[/editline]
would have been more fun with its half ragdoll though
