Maybe I'm just old school but, if I ever had to get a game published I would never use Early Access, I don't see the point in crafting an experience if all my players are going to end up playing the game in the worst possible state it could possibly be in, it doesn't really feel right to me, there's other larger issues, such as being able to drastically change the game without everyone crying about every little change I do, certain ideas might simply not be fun, and I'd rather not worry about how the game looks anyway up until later on, and even though I do own a few EA titles I only played them for only five minutes or so. I don't really like the idea of my whole playerbase being burned out before the base game is released, although I do see how EA might be the least risky way of doing things, but it just seems like a shitty way of doing things, I'd rather get my own QA team instead if I really need any suggestions. There's some other larger issues with the whole early access model, but if I'm working on a new game I'd rather not allow the public to play it as it develops. Maybe the project I'm working on simply sucks balls, sometimes certain games are beyond the point of return and should have simply been cancelled instead of being released in that state.
Agreed, early access is a system that should only be used if a game is actually complete enough to sell it rather then something very WIP that is little more then a pre-alpha. It's why I'd try asking Devolver to publish it. They like creative things, as a lower-end publisher they would probobly like having something like that on their record, and they like the color of money. Win for everyone.

Did the Evil Planet wiki break? None of the pages are loading for me.
I really wish I hadn't slacked so much, I really need to start regaining my momentum again. Anyway I added some new stuff to this thing, I still need to upload some screenshots for it though. I really want to finish this and finally start making that game I've been planning to make all this time. http://www.nexusmods.com/evilgenius/mods/7/?
Nice to see evil genius again Still waiting on evil genius 2. 11 years later.
Nice to see evil genius again Still waiting on evil genius 2. 11 years later.
It's been 2 years since they said more about it was coming soon, it seems it might not be happening now.
Wow i did not know there was a thread for this. I love this game. I got to say, the graphics are not aged too badly. The bright colors and cubic art-style makes this look pretty good even today.
I'm going to release the mod on December 19. http://www.nexusmods.com/evilgenius/mods/7/ Here's a tiny preview. Hey, I picked up Evil Genius again (lost my disk) in the sale and your mod is really useful, cheers. I kind of like how it doesn't include some of the stuff that the old community patch did, which seemed a little overpowered (hotels were able to be filled with any room) though it seems social minions are still a bit OP, at least on the first island, where if you just have 20 valets or so you can confuse anyone who gets inside the base, only times I have had to go loud were when there were 6 soldiers or so who found my powerplants.

There's a bunch of stuff I wanted to test but it would take me another week of work and I can't really do that right now, I did add a bunch of smaller stuff though which took a whole lot less to test. I've been thinking about increasing the spawn rates for the agents but, I really don't want things to get too micro-managy again. I think social minions are probably more effective because of the bigger population, but I don't know, as long as it's a valid strategy, I guess it's ok-ish. I could probably change the armor values for all agents but I really don't want to get too insane with that stuff, I have to edit 160 agents too which is pretty fucking stupid. Right now I just kinda lack a whole bunch of stuff, mostly control though. I kinda wanted to pretty much get rid of all the same-ish agent types (pathetic, poor would be recruits and everything else veterans and such, but I can't really do that properly, bleh), so that I could have an easier time balancing everything. Sorry kinda sleepy right now, can't write properly, I had more to say but eh.
I love you.
:v:V V[IMG]https://facepunch.com/fp/ratings/heart.png[/IMG]
Also, just a question but did you make the fire extinguisher unique for a reason? Just a bit curious because I sure don't remember it being a one in the entire base kind of thing. Has led to some very funny moments as a valet tries desperately to figure where to go though! :v: Also it might just be because I am dumb, but it would be kind of nice to know how the infirmary stuff compares out - the x-ray machine is 35k and the exam chair and autosurgeon are 15k, so would I be right in assuming the x-ray machine is better in the mod, if you rebalanced stuff? Same goes with some staff room stuff. I'm mostly curious about stuff, I love the mod! Also if you ever decide to update it, it would be nice for you to add the evil atrium that should already be in the files - it's a little decoration for the inner sanctum, which is nice for adding theme. Thanks again!
I don't remember what difference the medical stuff had, and I only updated those prices very recently, I also very recently updated the orders of all lists, I've been trying to adress the difficulty stuff right now but I'm still learning how the systems in EG work. The extinguisher is by design unique, I was going to make it so that you could build two, but I have no idea how to do that, most players used to place extinguishers everywhere and the Valet AI is kinda bad so this is mostly a simple workaround to avoid some frustration. The atrium is unlockable in Europe, the AOI should be called French Inquisition, there's also a new loot item and some other objects. The mod isn't really perfect but, I tried to work on what bothered me the most first, and what other things other players may have had issues with. I don't usually watch let's plays but I kinda used them to confirm some of my decisions :v: If I had a job then I would have released this way earlier, and the mod is still missing some stuff I wanted to do, so a ton of stuff is not as complete or as polished as it should. Here's the Infirmary stuff, I'll have to check if I made them better in any way, I think I did though, I'm sure I actually made it so that the better ones would give out more health. Also I recently made [sp]clones and the clone machine[/sp] a tiny bit more useful, the [sp]clone machine[/sp] is also a loot item now, it's invincible too though. Right now I've been trying to get the game to spawn more agents, and I'm slowly seeing how things work, but it takes a while, I'd gladly work all day on this stuff though, there's just some other stuff in between which kinda stops me from doing that. Sorry still sleepy, I can't write anything properly right now, I'm too tired to word my stuff properly :v: I'm pretty sure I left out a ton of stuff but whatever now. Here's some other AOIs which unlock new stuff. I don't want to spoil the rest too much. It's zoomed out so you won't really see anything. http://i.imgur.com/WDCjOM2.png [t]http://i.imgur.com/9xSxPgg.png[/t] I really hated how the game would occasionally send one lone saboteur for no reason, it was always so lame. [t]http://i.imgur.com/Y33CoxD.png[/t] This post really looks confusing right now, heh, sorry again about that. I should've probably answered this tomorrow instead but I didn't want to keep you waiting.
Great work, cheers! Seems I missed the atrium so far, I'll have to grab it asap for my superagent elimination sanctum. Don't worry, I understood it all. Thanks for the work, don't rush yourself, keep it a hobby!
Thanks for the work, don't rush yourself, keep it a hobby!
If I'm not doing anything important at all I can always work on it, I usually like to keep myself busy with at least something if I can. Edit: Okay I did get kinda tired of EG though :v: Only because most changes I make right now take forever to test. I probably have 2000+ hours in it anyway, no idea.
Argh having a hell of a time trying to get Mariana Mamba to come and play. I've kept SMASH at full heat for over an hour and she is more than content to keep pacing around the world map. I need to give you your botox, woman! :v:
I could release a version with increased spawn rates but the game does two kinda annoying things which I don't have much control over. 1. The game can only spawn two squads for each region. 2. The game doesn't immediately spawn the squad, it firsts sets the squad to visit the island at a certain time and day. 3. If the respawn timer is set to something too low, you might end up with another squad coming onto the island almost immediately for some reason. 4. If I'm not careful with the timers you can end up with up to 50 foes or more, kinda bad early on and bad for players who just started out, I can't very easily limit how many agents you actually get, I really need to be careful with this stuff. 5. I have no idea how many AIs the engine can easily handle at once, 200 minions are a ton already, there can be a shitton of active entities at once, all with their own behaviours and stuff. Also this stuff is a bitch to test without some proper debug tools.
Oh wow, Nexus says your mod was last updated Sep 2016, perfect time for me to play a bit more EG, cheers.
Oh wow, Nexus says your mod was last updated Sep 2016, perfect time for me to play a bit more EG, cheers.
I noticed your post by accident, I was going to release another version which makes the game less slow along with some other improvements but the lack of heating means that I had terrible sleep so I didn't manage to keep a good work pace, I really need to finish this mod as I had a pretty bad year overall, I barely got started on my own game and I would be kinda dissapointed if I had to hold back a lot of these new changes. I don't think Evil Genius is a very good game overall, but I did what I could with what I had, there aren't any games like it so at least I hope someone will get some enjoyment out of the mod, I just wish my life could just pick up already, I'm tired of living in poverty. I want to work on all these projects I've been thinking of but the lack of overall financial stability sucks. Sorry for the overly ranty post, I was supposed to finish the mod a year ago and I'm a little bit dissapointed in myself, all the real life stress and other issues kinda sucked the life out of me though, I feel like I'm wasting my life away and I haven't even accomplished anything yet, it's just depressing. I at least hope to design my game to be the least tedious possible. This is a pretty stupid change but I just decided to set the default caps myself, you no longer have to set them every time you start a new game. [t]http://i.imgur.com/gfk5S3c.png[/t] I also figured out the reason as to why it took hours to build anything, briefcases can only hold 5000$, if something costs 6000$ then two briefcases are used and so on, it means that you need like three workers just for an object which costs 15000$. [t]http://i.imgur.com/ZsrISsk.png[/t] Now every item will only cost up to 5000$, anything else is overkill and slows the game down. [t]http://i.imgur.com/qzdT31e.png[/t] It should stop the game from feeling depressingly slow. There's a bunch of other stuff but I can't really remember now.

Well, there hasn't been much activity in this thread for a long time, however... At 3:32. Jason Kingsley outright says they're working on Evil Genius 2 at the moment! It's awesome to finally see it said. Years ago they had an open letter saying that they would make Evil Genius 2 "soon" after there were a large amount of people asking him about it on Twitter (including me) and him replying saying they were hoping to, but after that letter there was no mention of it again, so myself and others just assumed it was gone and wasn't going to happen. It's great that he even says this in a way that acknowledges they were taking notice of what people have been asking for all this time.
I really want I want Evil Genius 2 but half of Rebellion's games are hot garbage so I am both excited and terrified.
I really want I want Evil Genius 2 but half of Rebellion's games are hot garbage so I am both excited and terrified.
What? How are they? The Sniper Elite series is considered to be pretty good, and either way it's a completely different style of game. Their also an indie developer, aren't they?
Aieeeeeee, awww yis. Fingers crossed they don't fuck it up. It has so much potential. I want more than two islands though...
I came to post about EG2 being announced! I can't wait. This game is pretty much my favourite game ever; I can't wait to see what they do with the sequel.
https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1570241
What is the actual point in making a new thread, though? If we really need a new thread, there's this one i already made that's fine instead: https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1253816 I can just update it with the stuff about EG2.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
