Evil Genius - ♫ Everybody Wants to Rule the World ♫
Finally got around to trying it out, and while I find a lot of the changes are nice - It's a tad too easy to get money.
Previously my bottleneck for getting shit done has been my cash, but with 10 workers in mainland America (10k/45sec) and I've never gotten below 100k. My new bottleneck is how fast minions run and perform their animations, and how fast heat dies down and I think that's a bit too easy. I'm actually spending extra money on recruiting faster for the first time without feeling like I'm wasting money I could use for something else, and with less than an hour's gametime I've done almost double as much stuff.
I always felt as if it took simply way too long just to setup your basic main base, and I had already considered that certain things might be too cheap by now so the late game should get a bit more expensive.
I have not tampered with their speed or anything, that might be due to how the free population is currently being awarded, things go faster simply because there are more minions around, (I probably could lower the ammount of free minions you get in the beggining from the notoriety) neither the heat and it always took me almost two hours to even get most things setup, Evil Genius is still a very slow game anyway but I'll probably look into it anyway.
I'll probably end up making Henchmen less effective at stealing again, and bring back the time it takes for stuff to be stolen to 60 seconds, but I'm not sure yet, for the most part you'd simply end up waiting more and I'd rather make objects more expensive so that the player has a reason to actualy use money. In the late game usualy the player has no reason to spend money for the most part either but I'll see if there's anything I can do about the beggining I guess, I'd rather not make every single object expensive though.
(Bear in mind I did feel as if things might be a bit too quick but honestly the pacing always felt overly slow, slower than what it should actualy should be).
Also I'm not sure if anyone has noticed but minions might go to the Tiki Bar thingy and start drinking :v:
Edit: I've pushed a commit for some new possible changes, still needs some tweaking though. https://github.com/RaTcHeT302/Modding
Edit: It should be a bit better now.

Also I got some kind of unused submarine working on the second island, it looks pretty cool.
I don't know if it's of any help to have this stuff up but meh whatever.
Edit: This has allowed me to figure out how to destroy those pesky monkey trees, hurray.
You're doing a good job! I wonder if it's possible minimize the distance between the characters walking on the pier/helipad so they will get much faster into the vehicle. Because that annoyed me a lot when playing with increased population.
There's this stuff I probably have to play with. I'm just going to post the IDs of the files for reference.
12024 (Depot Port)
DisembarkPositionOffset=0,0,0
MoveAfterDisembarkPositionOffset=0,30,0
DisembarkDelay=2.0
VehicleLeaveDelay=5
17304 (Boat)
VehicleApproachPositionOffset=0,-9.413,0
I'm not sure if I could do much for the helicopter, I could probably increase the speed of the vehicle but I'm not sure yet. It would probably be easier if I simply made the vehicles a bit more faster and removed some of the delays, although I hope nothing breaks.
Edit: Wot

I think I'll just leave this for another day.

Edit: I updated the website but I'll have to cleanup that Spawn/Port thing, too tired nao to do it properly
Edit 2: I never realized this but the Microtable is actualy locked? Time to make an AOI for it :v:
I can't say I've done much so instead I updated my website and found out some new annoying issues which I currently have no idea if they are even fixable without access to the original source, tho I presume I'll eventualy stumble upon something but for the most part these are rather minor even if stupid issues.
http://ratchet302.github.io/eg-objects.htm
https://github.com/RaTcHeT302/Modding/issues
The submarine and the AOI have been added here, I don't remember what else I exactly changed other than some other data or whatever.
https://github.com/RaTcHeT302/Modding
I think I'll probably take a break for now instead, I'd rather focus on something else more important but I did enough progress in just about two weeks so I'm fine with that I guess.

You could probably just do this yourself as otherwise I can't be bothered to figure out how vehicles work right now, I'd rather be doing something else V:v:V.
-snip never mind you pretty much just answered it-
By default they should get all panicky and stuff.

So hurray to this thing (that's a level 2 door, they are trapped).
#LonelyTourist #Trapped
Also the glossary is all HTML, so it's thankfully easy to edit.

I always wanted to replace these with my own huts so I made them selectable, you can move them around or simply delete them, so that's some extra space.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/mgZS3sm.jpg[/t]
Also rebound the screenshots key to F11 and some other minor crap.
More space for your hotels.

It's optional and I included the files in a separate folder so that the files can easily be removed after removing the annoying objects.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/crzMuA1.jpg[/t]
[t]http://i.imgur.com/wIh3SSC.jpg[/t]
It might feel a bit cheaty to some and some of these objects have no icons when selected (not gonna waste my time making those), I'm not going to bother giving the structures health as otherwise technicians will start fixing them up and it's unclear to me if I can ever tell henchmen to attack them somehow. Would be great if I could make them unselectable but deletable.
Also, oops, backup agents can all plant bombs

You're doing gods work son.
You would not believe how much the lack of room you got inside hotels annoyed me.
Did anyone try the GitHub build I've put up? I keep it more up to date than the PCGW stuff.
Also I hadn't realized the usefulness of that V:v:V
I think it can be agree'd.
Ratchet has made the ultimate patch of them all!

Heh, ok. All I'm doing is changing numbers, or removing stuff.
Also this website is really useful http://sporkforge.com/text/word_count.php
I gathered more data but I need to clean some garbage.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/3iBkM5O.png[/t]
http://ratchet302.github.io/eg-ai.htm
I did more stuff, although the whole Patch structure has changed seeing as I kept adding more stuff. I can't be bothered to write a changelog. Some changes will probably be noticeable otherwise, some maybe not.
https://github.com/RaTcHeT302/Modding/tree/master/Evil%20Genius/DynamicResources
One thing which comes to mind is that Mamba will sabotage the base as written in her description, although her mission will change the next time she visits the island again.
I got bored so I decided to work on this again.

I'm taking a break again though, to focus on more important things, Evil Genius isn't particularly alive. :v:
I kinda lost interest seeing as no one was really trying to play with it, this was pretty easy to do though, I'm still doing this mostly for myself so I don't care that much.
I wonder what happened with the next Evil Genius. Almost 2 years ago they said some news about it would be coming soon.
I wonder what happened with the next Evil Genius. Almost 2 years ago they said some news about it would be coming soon.
Maybe there's no market for it. Either that, or they are secretly working on it.
Maybe there's no market for it. Either that, or they are secretly working on it.
They know there's interest in it though, otherwise that letter would have been pointless. They said it was being worked on and we'd hear about it soon, but that was almost 2 years.
Sadly, a game like Evil Genius 2 doesn't strike me as the kind of thing a major publisher these days would ever get behind. If there were plans for it, I don't think it'll ever reach fruition.
A kickstarter spin-off strikes me as the best bet.

I doubt it would sell very well.

Wasn't that project some sort of a shitty facebook game? I remember them posting some info and screenshots from some generic mobile/facebook game with energy, timers, etc.

I don't know what letter he's talking about, we could probably tell if it was about Evil Genius Online if he posted it.
Edit: It's the EGO letter, where they said that they need funds to make a sequel for EG, so they made EGO to get those funds, for some reason.
Evil Genius 2 would be a very risky game to publish anyway, I'm just picturing it being a complete flop.
Damn this was my favorite game. I hope in the future theres a chance for revival, i would totally back a evil genius kickstarter.
Did anyone try the mod? The playerbase is really small right now. I don't want any suggestions or anything, was just curious. I have to figure out everything by myself anyway, feedback is kinda pointless to me.
Does anyone know where I could upload it, as to bring some more extra visibility to it.
I doubt it would sell very well.
Why not? EGO has likely helped more people find out about the series and would mean an EG2 would be more popular, and there's probably a lot of people who want EG2 or who are just interested in more games of that genre. There are already a few games of the same genre that have been released recently, and they did fairly well from what i've seen.
I don't think it'd be more risky than the VR-exclusive Battlezone game Rebellion are currently working on, anyway.

I haven't tried your mod out yet, sadly, but have you thought about posting it over here? There are still people posting in those forums, so it isn't dead.

Meh, it's pretty dead, the userbase kinda sucks too anyway. There's not a whole lot to talk about with the spambots :v:

oh well :v: I'm planning to replay the game soon, so I'll check your mod out!
I like Ivan.

In todays market thats a bit different. Early access, while heavily abused is a *thing*, and assuming the devs have the rights to their own game they could use that alongside a small kickstarter.
Personally I'd pitch a sequal to Devolver Digital. They publish it, they like fresh things, and overall they remind me of the way publishing games was 'in the good old days' - not suicidally risky.

Maybe I'm just old school but, if I ever had to get a game published I would never use Early Access, I don't see the point in crafting an experience if all my players are going to end up playing the game in the worst possible state it could possibly be in, it doesn't really feel right to me, there's other larger issues, such as being able to drastically change the game without everyone crying about every little change I do, certain ideas might simply not be fun, and I'd rather not worry about how the game looks anyway up until later on, and even though I do own a few EA titles I only played them for only five minutes or so.
I don't really like the idea of my whole playerbase being burned out before the base game is released, although I do see how EA might be the least risky way of doing things, but it just seems like a shitty way of doing things, I'd rather get my own QA team instead if I really need any suggestions.
There's some other larger issues with the whole early access model, but if I'm working on a new game I'd rather not allow the public to play it as it develops.
Maybe the project I'm working on simply sucks balls, sometimes certain games are beyond the point of return and should have simply been cancelled instead of being released in that state.
