if anyone is from EU, Nintendo eShop is having SMT IV for £11.69 from 22nd-29th. (normally £17.99) http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2015/01/nintendo_download_22nd_january_europe
How does SMT IV compare to others in the series? kind of a newbie to SMT/Persona in general, first game was Soul Hackers though that was a port/remake of a Sega Saturn-era game, so i have no idea if its been truly updated or kept moderately aged for the sake of being truthful to the original.
Lack of leveling other than the main characters, and merging demons kinda made it feel like a more extreme Dragon Quest, got past the present Airport and into that chesspiece hunting bit of paradigm X.
Are the Digital Devil Saga games any good? I can get both of them new cheap and I was wondering what you guys think about them.
They're amazing games, but sadly the soundtrack in the sequel is worse and the plot gets rather stupid by the end of it too.
Gameplay is always great though. I'm nearing the end of DDS2 and the duology is one of my favorites now.

SMTIV is pretty awesome, it has very satisfying combat that's sort of a refinement on what Nocturne did. It also has the most demons in the series I think. Your mileage may vary on the plot, as some people dislike the main characters since they're more there for alignment purposes than anything, but I personally found it to be a pretty enjoyable story, and it encourages multiple playthroughs to understand all the details about it.
Your party is entirely comprised of demons, which your protagonist can inherit abilities from as they level. The fusion system is at its most refined, giving you an incredible amount of customization on each of your demons. Unlike Soul Hackers, you don't have to worry about demon loyalty and that kind of thing. It also features the smirk system which keeps combat really fast and interesting, making it so when you exploit weaknesses or get a critical, your demons or yourself have a chance of "smirking", which basically greatly increases the power of their next attack, as well as increasing their hit/evade rate and crit rate dramatically. The rub here though is that your opponents can do the same, so you have to get smart about your party and covering your weaknesses, cuz otherwise you can get absolutely destroyed.
All in all, a very solid entry to the series and it's a good bridge to getting into the other mainline games like Nocturne.
I just bought the first DDS. I need to wait for my component cables to get here though so I can play the PS2 on my TV.
Now, I haven't played or looked into SMTIV but Im going to guess the smirk system ISNT just being a smug asshole to your opponents.

Smirk is similar to hitting an enemy who is weak to something in persona. You cast a spell that an enemy is weak to or you crit or if they enemy misses or if you block the spell and this applies the "Smirk" buff. You get an extra turn and the next time the character who got the "smirk" buff attacks they hit harder or the next time they get hit they evade. This also works against you if they attack your defenses or you miss or they block. I might be missing something but that's basically it.
Hey, I'm building a team in Q and was looking for some advice.
I have Yu of course, Kanji for Bestial Roar/Link damage, Aigis for tanking, Naoto because Naoto, but I need a 5th member to stick with. I want to use Junpei because he learns skills that can really support in chaining attacks with Kanji (plus he da man), but then again, I need to get Minato up to 55.
So, Junpei or Minato? Should I pick Junpei, only leveling up Minato when need be, or Minato throughout the entire game?
My party has major Elec and Wind weakness, but Skills have already remedied that. I don't really have a dedicated healer, but I've been doing just fine without one.
Go with Junpei if you like him better, just slap a growth 1/2/3 on Minato when you get them, if you always put the most recent growth item on him he'll be only a few level behind when you're 55. Then you can just farm one of the bosses a few times to get him to 55 too.

Noice, thanks.
Finally spending more time on Persona 3 and I'm liking it a lot more.
Persona fusion though. I'm ~8 hours in the game (calendar is 5/12), am I too early to fuck around with that? I only have like, 4 or 5 personas.
You should get more

Try and get your personas to learn all their skills by leveling them first. Then fuse them and try to make the new persona inherit the skills you want. It's not as easy to do this in P3 as it is P4G but it's possible by opening the fusion window over and over and re-selecting the personas you are fusing away.
You can later on summon back the personas you've fused away through the compendium (after the first full moon.) Or you can just grab them again through the reshuffle and use those for fusions as well if you wish.
In other news I'm grabbing Persona Q next month with my New 3ds XL. Looks pretty fun. I need some Persona 5 news soon. Need my crack.

It's never too early to start fusing, as long as you've leveled them until they learned any key skills that they're able.
Like, waiting until a Persona learns its best skills before fusing and passing it down is ideal. That's why Social Links are so important. Cuts down on the grinding time when fusing a Persona of the associated arcana.
When you pass down skills, pass down ones that are suitable. If this new Persona is weak to Fire and you're able to pass down Dodge/Evade/Resist/Null/Absorb Fire, you better.
Ah man, I accidentally spoiled who the online game person was in P3. I feel bad now.
petrified members not gaining exp is bullshit
whose idea was petrification anyway
the person who was petrified was the one that could cure ailments
thanks persona q
Alright I bought Persona Q premium edition. I wanted the case for my new 3ds xl I'm getting next month. I wanted to wait to play it when I get the new 3ds xl but I know I'm just going to shove it in my 3ds and play it as soon as possible.
I just need my persona crack to hold me over until I get info on Persona 5.
Oh I dunno how much you guys'll appreciate this, but I gathered up ~50 of my favorite Persona ( 3/4/P4AU/Q songs (from youtube so some songs are kinda bleh quality, sorry) and put them into one big RAR

I'm sure I missed a few good ones, so I'll go back and add more later. Also they're all neatly packaged in one album. Enjoy if you end up downloading!
Seems like P4AU will be part of the 2015 Evo lineup.

[sp]It's kinda hard to help without visuals but it helps to mark the location of each FOE on your map, and keep in mind the key will disappear if you have the lights on, so just mark where all of them are and plan a route accordingly. Also, mark the locations of light switches too.[/sp]

These guys arrived in the mail today. I've got a Jack Frost coming as well. Fun fact; it took way to long to get Raidou to stand while both holding his gun AND his sheathed katana.

Nah it's all good I figured it out. Instead of solving the puzzle I just killed 1 FOE.
cute babys are real pushovers
unlike most FOEs, they can be killed with Hama soooo...
I dunno about the creepy doll ones though.

During that one part where you run away from the doll FOE, I couldn't figure out the path to take the first couple times cause I'm stupid or something. It would use Mamudoon at some point and then I'd just get pissed since I was on Risky and P3MC is weak to Mudo. So I decided to ragehama it since I figured I would die anyways. Hama then connected I was confused and happy at the same time.
Digital Devil Saga is exactly what I was looking for. Something actually mature and dark.
Glad you're enjoying DDS! It's super solid and I need to play it more but I really liked it. Probably my second favorite spinoff
I think my favorite thing ever in P3 is the all-out attacks. They're so dumb, I love them.

So... anything but Persona?
[editline]24th January 2015[/editline]
Hell, even Persona when you look at 2.
