On the recent RAID Q&A stream, Almir said that August (the character) isn't ready yet, and will be released later. Sure, it would have been cool if in August we got a character of the same name, but that was always pure speculation with no official word from the developer. Personally, I didn't expect OVERKILL to make a fully fleshed-out character based off a simple papercraft concept image in such a short time. The name was simply a coincidence, which, I guess, spawned all those theories :pudge:
Call it cynical but I always presumed the reason such a bland character won over so many ones that involved effort was because they already had some sort of prototype in mind that it fit

Was August really 'bland' compared to other community heisters?
I was always under the impression August had been one of the few entries that was actually serious, and had enough effort put into its package to be considered over everything else.
I'm guessing there were probably a lot more of joke heisters floating around, and a lot of other low-effort, or simply intangible entries compared to the few that actually put serious thought and effort into their characters.

There were definitely colorful serious characters, one even being from a user here. August was extremely simple. Average suit, pale skin grey hair blue eyes and michaelangelos David as a mask.
I'm pretty sure he's meant to be a reference to the antagonist of the davinci code

They completely disregarded any backstory to any of the submissions. So yeah, August was a pretty bland design.

I wanted that one artist with a thing for Sydney to win. Japanese lady with black hair in a ponytail that used a fox mask. Would've fit the scenario at the time too, IMO (Search for Kento)

August's design lacks personality. Now granted, Payday isn't exactly about character design, but for a "design your own heister" contest, you'd think that they'd pick one that tells you what kind of person the character is at a glance.

He's literally just a dude with white hair and a mask already existing in the game more or less. I genuinely believe they just chose the most generic one that didn't look like complete trash

Assuming August is intentionally albino w/ blue eyes (which would give him [i]some[/i] uniqueness) and not just an old guy, given the look and backstory he seems to be an homage to the villain from Davinci Code, a novel/film with high popularity.

You could have a little fun mix matching these

I do hope August is Italian considering the mask. Since Augustus-August being a possible connection, him being an albino would be interesting.
I do admit, we could use some more "flash" with our heisters. I think Sangrez brought this, but a lot of those designs posted above would have been great to have.

Personally I think most of the fan submissions were awful
They looked way too much like they were trying to be different and unique and most of them looked like DA ocs

Oh god I hated Frank so much, it's so easy to tell that the guy who designed him just shoehorned him into the ex-dozer idea since it's been popular waaay before that contest.
Frank looks more like some Salaryman or Walmart worker than he does the kind of person who is often put in the bulldozer role
You may say it's not fair to judge them based on the original dozer, but considering that all the thousands of Dozers in the police force always have the same personality :v:
Frank was literally just D-Fens.
To me the idea of the Ex-dozer should be portrayed buy a kinda drill instructor guy, looking closer to a bootleg mix between Duke Nukem or Guile.
