what ever happened with this game. I remember Toby talking about translations ages ago and there was talk about someone from nintendo contacting him iirc. I was half expecting to see this on the switch launch with all those other indie games but instead nothing has happened lol. I mean it's not like he didn't already make a boat full of cash but god damn if he just stayed on top of this he could've made so much more.

I have a feeling at least part of it is issues with compliance, consoles typically avoid saving without some sort of save icon, and undertale is full of secret saves that kind of have to be secret otherwise it ruins it.
And then you have the game shutting itself off, and probably some other stuff I'm not thinking of.
Not to mention that you can "break" your save file by doing a Genocide run. On PC you can "fix" the save file if you don't mind going through registry files and stuff, but on console it'd be ruined forever with no real way to fix it beyond messing with the console's core OS, and somehow I don't think a console publisher (least of all ignores-fair-use-and-copyright-claims-literally-anything-with-their-footage Nintendo) would be okay with that.
Then there's all the weird stuff like the "Fun" value and the "Dirty Hacker" ending and so on and so on... I don't think Undertale would really translate well to console just due to the meta nature of the story.

Not to mention, Undertale seems to be specifically designed for playing on computers. I don't think GameMaker (and its variants, like Studio) games can be ported to consoles.

Maybe this version should be a problem for a console, but what if Toby take his time and actually made a version of the game suitable ONLY for consoles?

He would be a fucking genius-genius if he pulls this shit off. I've yet to see a single meta-mechanic game make it to console. Hardware limitation's a (motivational) bitch.
(Okay maybe not hardware limitation but more of an OS limitation?)

But then it becomes a radically different experience, since you can truly end up being above consequences of the Genocide route... Because, system_information_963 is easy to get rid of (not so much for Steam users who need to wipe out the Steam Cloud cache), and the player already is godlike because of this.

Until Dawn is meta af though.
I wouldn't say it's AS meta as something like Undertale or OneShot, but it did have a few bits like that here and there. Also, it is indeed the best David Cage game. Which is hilarious since David Cage was nowhere near it.

o nice, the first one was by far the best undertale fan album I've heard. that's fucking awesome they've all made another one.
It exceeded all my expectations.

While I'm not terribly broken up about it, I do kind of feel like the game was somewhat spoiled for me in knowing about the whole [sp]ooh it's a world of quirky characters and there's a pacifist option and the game calls you out on being a jerk even if you reset like it means something[/sp], but I'm wondering, if the opportunity comes along to pick it up cheap that it might be worth getting for the music in its context alone?

I don't mean to be so down on the implimentation of the game's [sp]4th wall breaking storytelling aspects[/sp] I just don't think it's a fun or great or interesting idea to begin with, personal storytelling taste.
It's similar to [sp]imscared or whatever it's called. That game that occasionally closes and adds a file alledgedly from the ghost in the game. That at least when whole hog with breaking the fourth wall[/sp] but at the end of it all I know it's still just a .exe, the creator knows it's just a series of code, and the game is a bunch of 0s and 1s that doesn't know anything. [sp]The stage may be both a big plank of wood and the vast ocean at the beginning of the Tempest, but if you want me to take things seriously, don't turn to the audience and say "wouldn't you be drowning, sitting down there?"[/sp]
Boy it must be difficult for you to enjoy any creative work then, since you know, fantasy ain't real.

Well, it's only a problem when it breaks the fourth wall so overtly without making me laugh like Monkey Island does.

It's not neccessarily supposed to make you laugh. It's mostly to enhance the story.

For me personally, it weakens the story.
it kind of is the story
Did the character comic ever come out?
Not sure if it did. Closest thing I can think of is the "what is Papyrus' favourite food?" askblog type thing, though I don't think that truly counts.
I just want to know what Toby's up to, at this point.
I once posted here a little project I was working on about the sans fight which was timed with with MEGALOVANIA. Now I come close to a finished version of it.
It's made for people who have already beat him and wanna go for a trip back through hell with the memorable quotes, attacks and moments.
But I feel like it could use some improvement with some feedback perhaps. You don't have to, but I would appreciate it

I Give Undertale a 0/10
only because we didn't get to play that Unity Toriel bit shown in the trailer
Got this yesterday

It was a very neat read. If you're interested in the behind the scenes of the art in the game, get this book
Thanks for the reminder, went ahead and bought the digital version despite me choking when I checked my country's shitty currency, but I'm sure it is worth it (it better be, honestly)
[editline]during editing[/editline]
Worth iiiiiittttttttttttttt. Now I'll proceed to starve for the next few days.
It seems the If Undertale was Realistic series is coming back, only this time they don't use any of Toby's music pieces.
