Oh my god is THAT THE PLANNING PAPER Toby you mad man
part of me thinks this might be what toby actually planned undertale to be. the initial concept of it. just a random thought that struck me, is all.
Just had a thought in consideration of the cliffhanger if we might end up being able to have a playable custom vessel/avatar after all with the SOUL in the cage ending up with the created vessel. Most likely not and might defeat the initial point and theme of the sequence, but at the same time the game does acknowledge our real name via save files. Would be pretty neat though, even if it's just for a short gimmicky section of the game, like how we actually ending up seeing the contraption we make with Lancer and Susie.
i haven't played the original undertale but i've seen enough playthroughs and read enough discussions to have a pretty good idea about it all, and deltarune was sick cool how asgore's flower shop is almost identical to his castle, with the different coloured roses in glass cases as the human souls, and the locked door being the barrier also, theory time - the entire darkworld section was mapped out in games strewn over the floor in the unused classroom, right? i'm thinking that this is a prologue to undertale, and that undertale was a version of that - a made-up story that became real, created by chara/kris/whatever, warping reality (whether they knew they were doing it or not) using the world around them as reference to create a story they thought was more interesting. everything in the town is fairly normal, right? whereas in the darkworld, everything was way more like it was in the original undertale. so i'm thinking that deltarune isn't an anagram of undertale, but undertale is actually an anagram of deltarune - undertale was the result of taking pieces of the "real" world in deltarune and mixing it up like a collage into something almost, but not completely, unrecognisable from reality, in an attempt to make something more "interesting" so yeah, i'm thinking kris/chara/whatever you want to call them is a reality-warping force of nature who plays with the world and lives around them for fun, sometimes being peaceful, sometimes being violent, and deltarune is a prequel where they have only just begun to understand what they can do, consciously or unconsciously. or something. idk. good game
Hey uh I'm just more than happy to see almost all the characters alive and trucking than to worry about the first chapter not pushing the emotion buttons as hard.
for now.....
Might be late but not Undertale spoilers but minor hinty spoiler during introduction of survey There's probably a lot more foreshadowing on top of the song/planning paper connection

Toriel does talk about green eggs in that sentence as well. Either Toby finished this very recently or its a insane coincidence.
anyone got a link for the ending song?
the smash thing was probably already there and when the leak happened, he added that to fuck with people
I can see it now- flowey!asriel being so attached to Chara/Kris (just gonna assume the latter will be the canon name) in UT will be a direct result from real!asriel coming back from college and not caring about real!kris as much as they want. Hell, the change to adult asriel in UT probably will have a direct correlation to real asriel looking a lot different from Kris' memories when they come back from college. I'm sure there's a ton of examples of this with the other characters, but this is what came to mind as I read your theory.
survey tunes that you shouldn't click if you haven't completed the survey
we're up to 20
Why you checkin son.
As far as I see it, going through the survey as someone who was pretty much a full on undertale lore fanatic, I immediately developed two theories based on the following: [MAJOR SPOILERS FOR BOTH TITLES] Namely, the world is entirely wrong, monsters are on the surface yet all of frisks actions seems to have not taken place and frisk as a character is entirely missing. The town itself is devoid of humans all-together yet is entirely too modern for it to be a world before their sealing, Asriel is also far too old and is already in university, and Toriel has a random adopted child that is decidedly unpopular, holds NO awards, is expected to be 'late' to class, and a monster is okay with calling a 'freak' thus - A.) This is a world of Asriel's dreams, fragmented pieces of his soul are creating a strange otherworld and the overworld, underworld, and all the characters within it are completely fake imagined creatures all incarnated with the resting power of Flowey/Asriel practically rotting in the now abandoned underground. This to me makes sense because of the strange inconsistencies making the world what could be seen as a misintepreted and warped world from a child's prespective locked away from it with only small glimpses of that world. The presence of two Asriels (one grown-up in the light of the overworld, one still a child in the darkness) and the fact that the main characters immediately become anime super heroes upon being set upon their journey, plus their incredible resemblence to Asriel's two greatest friends (Kris being Frisk, and Susie very clearly to me representing Chara before she died) reeks to me of a child's imagined journey with his two best friends to save the world. B.) This is the world where Chara won, more specifically, where their plan to wage war on humanity succeeded and Asriel took the souls from the surface. This would explain the strange lack of human beings on the surface despite monster kind emerging from the underground right near a human city, and would also explain a large amount of the inconsistencies - simply put, if Chara won then Frisk would have never had the chance to fall to the underground and make alot of things right. If monster kind won the ensuing conflict or at least won some kind of sovereign land for themselves, it could look a whole lot like the post-pacificist run but with key details missing, namely the lack of humans, lack of the Alphys-Undyne relationship, and the fact that Asriel never died and thus had time to grow up.
forbidden lewds
anyone have any idea what the big hole with a door on it was if you go directly down in the town?
At this point I think porn artists see it as some kind of contest and in much like a race between several thalidomide retards over some buzz saws its disgusting, messy and yet morbidly intriguing and you star rooting for which gore spattered, deformed gibbering mess wins.
Well I don't know what I was expecting. But this wasn't it. Pretty fuckin' awesome. Gonna have to play through it again I feel. I have to imagine there's a lot of hints I missed as to what the fuck the setting actually is.
Gameplay/gag spoiler Survey Barkley Shut Up and Jam Gaiden Gun's I just really appreciate having this joke, the humor in both Barkley and Undertale never fails to make me smile, despite having a different approach in humor, and seeing toby reference one of my other all-time favorite RPGs like this really got me
The "seam" joke fucking killed me
the duck has a fair of F's for eyes.
So I, ehrm, completed the survey. Yeah. First of all, that was a downright mini-roleplaying videogame, instead of a simple demo. Consider that it took me roughly three hours and half to complete it, and I'm pretty sure I've missed some stuff (the main one being the mysterious presence inside the ????? floor "quest", I'm sure of it, plus I wasn't able to unlock all the paths inside the forest area). Of course, at this point the setting and basically everything going on is pretty much in the air. My safest bet at the moment is that the game either takes place in an alternate universe than the original Undertale or it's some sort of direct sequel to it, with the monsters having perfectly integrated in the human world somehow (while many NPCs in the town area will comment about Kris being the only human around, you may as well conclude that Kris is the only human in town and that the majority of the humans lives elsewhere). To be perfectly honest, I'm really hoping for the former and not the latter. To be completely honest, everything was top notch: the writing, the music, the (proper) new characters and the gameplay proper were a joy to go throught. It's clear tobyfox managed to up the ante in terms of presentation and gameplay depths. The new battle system, in particular, really is the best feature from this "demo" and opens up a lot of possibilities in terms of how to deal with enemies, far more than in the original game. Color me really impressed. I'll look forward more news about this project
so the internet obviously couldnt keep its trap shut and i fear what the concequences are
there was 0 chance that was gonna happen, and tf knew that
The former is definitely more likely because the Alphys in this universe just gave Mew Mew Kissy Cutie 2 a positive review For reals though, the game definitely tries to play up the impression at first it's a direct sequel, with the intro being almost a mirror of the Pacifist ending/credits i.e. Toriel being a teacher, the town all has the familiar faces, grown up characters and all that. Then after exploring further especially after getting out of the Dark World, you start to see the cracks which mixes everything up and lets you really wonder and not know what to expect. Signs of a prequel starts to crop up with Undyne not being familiar with Alphys, and Asriel being alive and well. Then you remember you're a teenager and Asriel hasn't even managed to grow up during the events of Undertale. Many of the town's folks even reminiscence and mention how much they loved spending time with Asriel before growing up and heading to university. Plus sans doesn't even recognize you, and mentioned he only started to visit the town with his brother, almost a mirror of both skeleton brothers mentioning they're the newest citizens underground in Undertale. Alternate universe, continuity or some crazy illusion pocket world magic thing etc. might be definitely something that's cropping up here
Interesting thing to note: If you name your vessel Gaster, the game'll reset as soon as you finish. But if you put in Gaster as your name, the game closes out 🤔

There was no way people would just not discuss this. Delta Rune is completely insane in every way possible. An Undertale sequel hinting at some loose ends in the original's story, lore and canon easter eggs? And it's FUCKING FREE? And it's episodic? Yeah no one is going to be silent about this lmao
