Damn, that was a nice Halloween surprise. Can't wait to see what's in Chapter 2.
Cursed video
i played the first hour this morning and had to wait all fuckin day to play it but it was worth waiting it out no matter what angle this goes, im down for more undertale action, i had a blast
I buy into the theory that this is a jumbled timeline of Gaster's creation so that he can exist again. His presence is still hinted at in this game, the setting of the game would only make sense after True Pacifist despite that clearly having not happened in this timeline, and the Gaster/sans stuff was the only lingering thread left in Undertale. Kris is also an "F" away from being an anagram of "Frisk", despite the character seemingly also being Chara. There's no way that this is a prequel. It simply doesn't make any sense as one. Direct sequel may be pushing it as well, at least timeline-wise, but I have almost no doubt at this point that this game is going to wrap up on the Sans/Gaster plotline and serve as a sequel in that sense.
I played the entire game and I gotta say everything felt so refreshing. The music, character designs. Everything about it felt so good. Also the ending wasfucking sspooky. What a way to end on the game.Toby fox still has it in him.
Toby has been plotting this shit out since UT development started and has probably been working on this survey since he finished UT's development. This was totally worth waiting 3 years with nonexistant updates to the main game except for little things for the console ports. This game isn't even a sequel, or a prequel, its some convoluted timeline fuckery that gives Toby room for anything to become canon without taking from all of the fan theories that have metastasized since the game's release. He's not only fucking around with the lore but he also improved the RPG game mechanics as well. I'm PUMPED that its both something completely different and yet ties into the original game at the same time.
To be honest the ending kind of creeped me out, I went with a pacifist route right off the bat and I still had some edgy shit happen. Didn't touch my keyboard as I was too startled, but apparently you can interact with your SOUL? I didn't go with genocide for the exact reason that I didn't want to get spooked, but I couldn't escape it apparently... Though, since there were several warnings on the site, I expected a bit more of a scare, kind of underwhelming. As for ending differences, I went to watch someone else try a genocide route to compare, and I HAVE noticed one between that one and pacifist. In pacifist, when you're about to get shanked, Lancer comes to help with all of the other "monsters" (?), overthrowing the king, and you get to say goodbye to everyone. In "genocide", Susie somehow manages to pacify the king into sleeping with Raslei's spell and then Lancer comes to warn you that the entire darkworld is coming to fuck you up, telling you to hurry. I hope the other chapters will have more freedom regarding the morality of your actions, and that this is just a setup, because it feels like a step back. But all in all, the entire game feels like an upgrade. It feels, looks and sounds much better than Undertale. I'm excited to see that the first chapter is that long, I wonder how many more there are planned and how lengthy they will be?

By the way have we figured out why there are only 9 seats in the classroom yet?
If this game really is a prequel, I'm going to guess it'll be explained here. Maybe Chara!Kris stabbed her during the night while you're locked up?
Deltarune is bonkers, I'm onboard with wherever the fuck Toby is taking this. If you call on the Cell while in the dark world, you hear Entry Number Seventeen, "Susie"/"Suzy" was reference by one of the Gaster followers in the original game, the finale song is straight up called "don't forget", that card motherfucker is clearly the mysteryman sprite, this whole game is clearly in some bizzaro remix of Undertale, aaaaa
I really REALLY think its a world made by Chara, don't really have much to back it up, but yeah, dunno.
My thoughts on what happened This is a timeline created as a result of Gaster's experiments succeeding. Gaster experimented on Kris as a child, and the notes in the True lab that are gasters are from that initial experiment. Some sort of major incident happened in gaster's last experiment. Seems like it tore gaster apart, but we have a timeline where Gaster's experiment failed(Undertale), and a timeline where Gaster succeeded(Delta Rune) and the barrier was shattered. Evidence being Kris appears to be the first fallen human, especially given that ending. Asriel is still alive and grown up. Somehow monsters are free from the underground. Monsters that knew each other before, no longer do(Undyne/Alphys) Rudy mentions "The incident" as the catalyst for Asgore/Toriel splitting up. My thoughts are that this refers to gaster's experiment. Toriel is appalled that Asgore allowed the experiments on Kris considering Gaster is now presumed dead from one of them.
It's a prequel detailing how Chara fucked up everything and will end with Sans using the time machine to undo Chara's acts. In doing so the only thing that remains of Deltarune is a photo of you, Susie and Ralsie which has "don't forget" inscribed on it. I'm guessing these 3 either helped get the time machine going or they were completely lost in Deltarune's timeline and the photo is just a memento. I think the entire point of San's existence is to monitor Chara's behavior in each timeline and stop them from ruining the timeline. That is why in UT the characters say that he and papy just "showed up oen day", and why in DR he just moved in and doesn't know anyone; he was probably directed by Gaster to go there and look for signs of Chara. Hell this would explain why he's boning Toriel since that gives him a step-dad's eye on the cursed demon child.
This is probably super obvious but I did notice that Jevil plays into the whole card deck thing obviously as the Joker, but the reason he's locked away is that most games that use playing cards discard the joker.
I don't like Ralsei's name. Not because of the obvious reason, but every time I try to remember it I conjure up some random order of letters in my head and think its correct. Rialse? Railse? Reilsa?
My guess is that the game is a prequel from the perspective of Sans coming from another universe Let me just get out some facts and likely speculation for why I think this is the case. It's safe to assume about Sans in Undertale that he has history with the three Delta Rune protagonists (postcard in secret lab), knows of multiverse theory (genocide monologue), and has a HATRED for humans (MTT resort dinner date) which was only quelled by his commitment to Toriel, and arrived in Snowdin with Papyrus only recently (snowdin shopkeep iirc). My way of looking at how the plot for Delta Rune will in some way progress is that our protagonist Kris, who is or is somehow related to Chara, becomes a threat to monsters because she was able to rid herself of her very soul, becoming a powerful entity in some way. In some series of events in which Sans and Papyrus, through Gaster who doesn't make it through with them (in some way, at least), decide to leave the Delta Rune dimension and arrived in the Undertale dimension, in which they decide to make their new lives in Snowdin. Also Papyrus probably got his love for Puzzles through the Darkness dimension that most of Delta takes place, but that's just baseless speculation at this point.
Someone needs to check this, but apparently Deltarune adds files to Undertale if it detects it has been installed on the computer.
I think I'm remembering something, someone help me on this- did they say that Rouxls Kaard used to be the ruler before The King took over and put his son in charge? Given Roulxs resemblance to Gaster, and that Lancer looks like a skeleton (similar to how Gaster is typically associated with skeletons), I have to wonder if there's connections there. Maybe each chapter of DR will have very different worlds, with the common theme being a Gasterlike with two similarly themed individuals who associate with him. Apologies for all the theories y'all, stuff like this really gets my mind going
You could at least explain why you think this if you're going to be contradictory. yes, that was a pun
huh, that's interesting if there genuinely is two different endings. in my playthrough i accidentally attacked a couple of monsters from hitting the action button too quickly but i got the ending where susie used raslei's Pacify spell, because "i wasn't gonna forget something i made fun of you for earlier" or something along those lines - but in my playthrough i spared everyone i could
Hey guys, remember the first time you saved? You overwrite a file named 'Kris' with your vessel's name. In the epilogue, it's explicitly stated that the other townies are genuinely surprised at how sociable and friendly Kris is acting. What if the stinger is just Kris taking control back and deciding to take the nuclear option, now that he thinks his free will is obviously in danger? What if we've been giving someone the REVERSE Chara treatment the whole time?
guess someone'll have to play through the whole thing without saving and report back then
I've been thinking that this is something Toby could pull on us at the end of the game. The only reason we think the events of the demo are incongruent with the events of Undertale is because Undertale exists. We could spend the entire game trying to make the world of deltarune line up with Undertale, only for the characters to comment that it's a radical shift from the world that they live in; to them, it's normal and it's always been this way.
which now i think about it, doesn't seem like it'd be that difficult to do? in my playthrough i only died once due to being a fuckin idiot in that bird-flying-about-and-shooting-at-you-in-a-small-corridor puzzle, and im sure you get enough healing items and ralsei having a healing ability, and the fixer who fixes your hp, to get to the end without needing to heal at a save point...... HMMMMMM
What happens if you actually create Kris in the character creator?
This shit is driving me up the wall, there are conditions to be met that will result in this popping up at the main menu from the lang_en file:  "DEVICE_MENU_slash_Step_0_gml_74_0": "IT CONFORMED TO THE REFLECTION.",   "DEVICE_MENU_slash_Step_0_gml_77_0": "WHAT AN INTERESTING BEHAVIOR.",   "DEVICE_MENU_slash_Step_0_gml_86_0": "WHAT AN INTERESTING BEHAVIOR.",   "DEVICE_MENU_slash_Step_0_gml_86_1": "PREPARATIONS ARE COMPLETE.",   "DEVICE_MENU_slash_Step_0_gml_91_0": "Copy complete.",  "DEVICE_MENU_slash_Step_0_gml_105_0": "[EMPTY]",   "DEVICE_MENU_slash_Step_0_gml_126_0": "IT WAS AS IF IT WAS NEVER THERE AT ALL.",   "DEVICE_MENU_slash_Step_0_gml_127_0": "Erase complete.",   "DEVICE_MENU_slash_Step_0_gml_149_0": "IT RETAINED ITS ORIGINAL SHAPE.",   "DEVICE_MENU_slash_Step_0_gml_156_0": "THEN IT WAS SPARED.",   "DEVICE_MENU_slash_Step_0_gml_159_0": "VERY INTERESTING.",   "DEVICE_MENU_slash_Step_0_gml_225_0": "THE DIVISION IS COMPLETE.",   "DEVICE_MENU_slash_Step_0_gml_227_0": "Copy complete.",   "DEVICE_MENU_slash_Step_0_gml_238_0": "IT IS IMMUNE TO ITS OWN IMAGE.",   "DEVICE_MENU_slash_Step_0_gml_239_0": "You can't copy there.",   "DEVICE_MENU_slash_Step_0_gml_261_0": "IT IS BARREN AND CANNOT BE COPIED.",   "DEVICE_MENU_slash_Step_0_gml_264_0": "BUT THERE WAS NOTHING LEFT TO COPY.",   "DEVICE_MENU_slash_Step_0_gml_266_0": "It can't be copied.",   "DEVICE_MENU_slash_Step_0_gml_289_0": "BUT IT WAS ALREADY GONE.",   "DEVICE_MENU_slash_Step_0_gml_292_0": "BUT THERE WAS NOTHING LEFT TO ERASE.", I tried playing around with the menu settings and based my friendly run these options don't pop up when manipulating the save files...
I think this might be what happens after the genocide route, and Chara gets bored and made a new world? I mean, it has the ability to mess with your true pacifist run after a genocide run. And by make, I mean the sense of going into another world and changing how things happened, i.e. no human monster war etc
Was it only me when I tried to find a way to hug Ralsei one last time?
The Dark World was what happened when The Patriots tried to recreate the shadow moses incident so that Kris would become the next Frisk
