[t]http://i.imgur.com/6RW1bqi.png[/t] Undertale got a tiny mention on South Park tonight!

Yurri On Ice
So Ike is gay?
From what I've heard of its content, shouldn't the show be called Yaoi on Ice?
From what I've heard of its content, shouldn't the show be called Yaoi on Ice?
out of curiosity I looked up the wikipedia page and apparently Yuri is the name of the main character
Did anyone else preorder the vinyl from iam8bit and recieve it in the mail yet? The wait is killing me..
Oh wait you know what? Very weird. When you go to store page now it's different than before. I preordered in August as well and I distinctly remember there being a mention of a Q4 2016 release date. Also mention of the Annoying Dog 45 preorder bonus is gone. Perhaps they ran out of it? Would be very lame if they promised that neat little thing as an incentive bonus and then just swipe it under the rug like they never even mentioned it. [editline]9th December 2016[/editline] Ah just looked it up. It was indeed a time-based bonus before Sep. 5th. Would make sense to take it down from the page after that.
The iam8bit vinyl is now shipping. http://iam8bit.com/updates/
The iam8bit vinyl is now shipping. http://iam8bit.com/updates/
FINALLY for fucks sake. I think I ordered back in late August or September if I'm not right.
Lol speak of the devil
An oldie, but I've never seen it on any FP thread. [t]http://68.media.tumblr.com/ab9183369cc742ce1a1787b73b2a8ffb/tumblr_nzzw3uYO8i1tt8hzpo1_1280.jpg[/t] Source
The iam8bit vinyl is now shipping. http://iam8bit.com/updates/
Saw that they were selling Rocket League soundtrack vinyls, got the perfect gift for my bro's birthday on the 1st of Jan. Thanks!
So, a couple little fun thought-experiments... both of which would require a time machine, and zero respect for copyright. First, let's say we wanted to release Undertale sometime in the past, as early as a console/platform could handle the necessary power to run the game as-is, mp3's and all. What would it be released for? My kneejerk answer is the PS1. 150 megabytes seems to just fit into that ballpark, and while not the main focus, let's not forget that plenty of non-3d games released for it, like Symphony of the Night. Of course, I have my doubts. I've seen moments on my own machine (with a gtx 980 no less) where I actually experience visibly lost frames during really heavy and cinematic bullet-hell sequences, let alone footage I've seen of other players on worse rigs. And I've no doubt it's a result of RPG-Maker being pushed to its breaking point. Second, let's release Undertale in the era of Mothers 1 and 2. Either NES or SNES release, with the game remade and optimized for the system to handle, right down to chiptune-based music. Somehow, we pack it into those little cartridges and (while somewhat diminished) the heart of Undertale translates to the players of the late-80's/early-90's from start to finish, right down to the saving mechanics. So what would be the reception? Would it be totally revolutionary? Passe'? Would it fit right in with the staples of yesteryear, or stick out as this avant garde game-changer? Would players be confused by the references to advanced tech and terms of cell phones and social media, or would it be seen as but one more piece of the worldbuilding? Would its 4th-wall breaking nature and appraisal of the player's actions be terrifying and foster legends about the game being somehow alive? Would this grant it more attention than the Mother games received? Or if it's played at all, will players catch wise and dismiss it as a gimmick? I have my own thoughts, but I'd like to hear YOURS first! No, probably not the only person to ever think about this, but I think it's fun anyway.
On first thought, Undertale seems like a game that very easily could have come out of the past. Change a few modern references / jokes / technology and it could fit easily as a 90's game. (Like the [sp]Alphys Kissey Cutey rant only works because we all understand what the concept of Social Media is.[/sp]) I mean keep in mind the game literally takes place in the year 201X. However, Undertale being released any time before the 00's era in it's current state probably would have been impossible. Consider that in the 90's, solo-project indie titles were not really a thing. The process for Undertale to get made would have been something like T.Fox would have been working in a company like Nintendo then he'd pitch the game and then they might say yes but then the project would only become partially his. Not even on the authoritative "your idea for this part is too radical we're changing it" but on the ground level that making the game by himself would have been impossible. It would have been too hard. And if he did find the determination (kill me) to do it himself, there was no digital distribution. He would of had to work at a place anyway that would have agreed to print the appropriate amount of physical copies. Software like Gamemaker didn't exist then. There weren't many tools that powered solo-ideas or developers. The same thing applies to the music. I doubt he would have been able to compose or create it all himself so the quality might have been mismatched or even worse- lack the leitmotifing that makes Undertale's OST so memorable.

I'm probably just gushing over this game but whenever I play, especially during those first few times, I feel like a kid again, and I absolutely love that feeling.

In this scenario, we're taking the technical and distribution limitations of the age out as a given. For arguments sake, it could be totally unlicensed like those Bible-based Nintendo games with the weird cartridges. It's not if it were produced at the same time by the same people with the day's tech either. Hence the mention of a time machine. The cart is made today, and Delorean'd back to 198X -199X. I'm fully aware that game sprites back in the day were exhausting, mind-numbing exercises in mathematic slide-puzzle garbage, like making ASCII art, but worse. Yes, an independent effort would be about as feasible as filming an independent action movie back then with consumer-grade materials. This is a total hypothetical aimed squarely at audience response.
Oh okay so Undertale in all it's glory magically ported onto something like a SNES cartridge being played by people on their 4:3 CRT televisions. It could work? Going as far back as I can remember, Pokemon Gold (1999) had cell phones so those kind of technology bits wouldn't be too lost. However the first game to really bring aspects like [sp]Flowey closing your game, general "meta" moments of the Undertale[/sp] to the table were the Sanity effects from the 2002 title Eternal Darkness. So if it came out before then Undertale probably would have been seen as innovative in the industry for those kind of memorable moments. Given the technical style reinforced by older technology, I think the juxtaposition of [sp]Photoshop Flowey[/sp] would have had 3 times the impact, probably actually giving kids nightmares.
Haven't seen this posted in here yet, so Pretty great series.
Haven't seen this posted in here yet, so Pretty great series.
I watched it to the fourth part so far, really enjoying it. [SP]When will people get that Chara has no involvement in Frisk's actions? They're only affected by the LV gained, it's the PLAYER who chooses to FIGHT.[/SP]
people like to isolate themselves from the narrative, whether out of guilt for their actions or simply because they just see undertale as another game to experience that of course is the entire point
[SP]When will people get that Chara has no involvement in Frisk's actions? Old gold: Still my favorite piece of Undertale fanart. It sums up the journey so well.
That bit where they show the Capital is so damn cool and it makes me wish we actually got to visit it in-game. It feels like there's a sort of buildup to it and then you get there and the elevator doesn't work. It'd be really cool to see essentially the biggest monster "city".

Yeah I vaguely remember that. Pity that we haven't heard much from that. Speaking of 3D models, though, I wonder if RetaDepa's friend has gotten much further with their own models?
Got my album in the mail today, wrapped it up nice for my friend, hope he likes it!
my package went out for delivery. ill try to post pics of the vinyl when I can.
