Metal Gear Megathread V - Kojima's been wanting out since MGS2

seems a bit of a shame all the cool things unlock in the post game
Now that I've stopped being shit the game is starting to pick up. I was stuck on the first drill mission in SP because I kept dying before the third wave ended and would lose 20+ minutes of progress multiple times before I wised up and just ran to the mission first instead of looting shit :v:
I feel like they should put benches to make barricades and ammo in areas that you need to do wave defense though, or add a way to increase how many of a barricade you can carry, because they're destroyed so quickly and you can't craft more ammo for yourself either so shit is used up real fast.
im convinced the game has no epic rarity items aside from revival pills until some arbitrary post release update that adds them, ive done so many hard salvages with just a bunch of purple drops
give my yellow gear konami
If it's anything like MGSV they'll be adding a shitton of alternative items and megagrind new tiers every month or so
How do you get legendary gear kits? I can't strengthen my legendary stuff without them. It would be a major pain in the ass if they're just RNG.

Also, I just tried fighting one of the endgame bosses, and holy shit, I did like no damage. It's probably gonna be a while before I'm ready for that.
Got myself the game, any beginner advice? Seems like there is an awful lot to take into account.
whats the best way to play 2 and 3?
Probably legacy collection or the user patched PC port, and for snake eater I stand by the 3DS port for its improved controls alone
are the games in that different from the HD collection? my ps3 doesnt have a working disc drive

You'll get side-ops to hunt animals for food, these are just guaranteed spawns of animals. If you don't have any small/medium/large animal side ops and need food you can still find them by searching areas clear of the dust.

Doesn't 3DS Snake Eater have a really shitty framerate?
Not enough to bother me anyway. Small price to pay for the peace Walker style controls imo

You mean for the BDU clothing option thing? I crafted that within like the first hour.

I had them somehow, don't know how tho
Really really enjoying this despite its attempts to slow the pace down. I made a short video for my youtube channel that summarizes my thoughts on Survive if anyone here feels like watching it. I put a lot of effort into it!

I tried to be as objective as I could and keep my opinion out of it till the end because I don't like it when game reviewers equate their poor experience with the game being bad. I really like Survive a lot but it has a number of critical flaws that I think could be fixed without much effort.
I just find certain aspects of this game tedious... how there always seems to be a 'timer' for your character (your health/thirst, and to a lesser extent, your o2); which I perfectly understand is a requirement in a game like this; but I find that they still continue to tick down when you're micromanaging your base and the like, very frustrating.
It's to the point now where I try to progress through the start of the game, but I'm too sick/dying to do the main quest, so I have to go hunting instead, which sustains me *just enough* to go hunting again... Am I doing something wrong?
I know a quick trick -- if your hunger or thirst drops below 25%, you can save & exit, and return, and they'll be bumped back up to 25% regardless.
It's a bit easier now that I'm at the point where I have [sp]the nurse[/sp], [sp]farms[/sp] and the firepit with the hanging pot, but it still seems I am taking an unnaturally long amount of time wandering around and hoping I'll find something that I can sustain myself with... any advice?
sick survival trix:
-find the canteen recipe ([sp]Chapter 5, Transporter 04 – Located in the large container, behind the orange building.[/sp]) and start using canteens for cooking. cooking soup and stews with canteens gives you TWICE the food items out of every piece of meat for some reason. They're also good to have around because you get like twice the thirst recovery in half the time and half the weight.
-try to get your meters synced up, and refill them both at once by eating soup or stew, the clean water should be a cooking element more than a survival element when you have the resources to pump out stew and soup.
-you can get clean water into a canteen with two clean water bottles or five dirty water bottles, since clean bottles are made from three dirty bottles, it's more efficient to fill canteens directly from dirty water bottles.
-you can dump dirty water out of canteens or bottles by discarding the item.
-you can make sure you're filling canteens instead of bottles when getting water from your purifier by dumping all your empty bottles into the storehouse before collecting the water.
-smoking meat makes it a little less filling, but impossible to spoil, and gives it a perk more often than not (sprint speed up, stamina consumption down, stuff like that)
-plan your excursions ahead of time! make the most out of your gear and meters by finding multiple side-ops near a transporter and doing them all. use your marker, use your flags and compass, try to not re-tread ground you've already explored on your way to missions.
-need food in a pinch? go do a lap of your teleporter locations, each spawns two or three small animals you can pocket and turn into soup or grilled meat
Also, I found out that killing a prone wanderer by way of arrow to the back-spot (that one you stab them in when sneaking) enables you to fulton them as if you'd backstabbed them, giving you the extra kuban. I tried doing it with a bullet but it didn't work, maybe you have to one-hit-kill them for it to count.

With your new farms and firepit you'll soon be swimming in food and drink. The hanging pot allows you to turn 3 bottles of dirty water into a clean one and also allows you to make stews. Stews not only help with both hunger and thirst but also give you buffs.
Is it possible to expand your base more than that one time in the story?
i hate how you cant place turrets diagonally
Hearing music from the other MGS games at my base makes me sad. I teared up a little when Quiet's Theme and Calling to the Night came on. Little reminders that the old MGS is gone.
this but with armor

I dont care how hard it is post game I'm playing dressup fuck stats
strenghtening should be taken to ridiculous extremes to outfit any piece of gear to end-game levels. put carbon fiber and chromium steel on your soviet BDUs to keep repping that ocelot look

A wolf just brained its self on a tree trying to lunge at me, knocking it out and cutting the entire tree down at the same time :v:
The only orange stuff I have are the preorder/beta accessories, but those are just cosmetic.
Does anyone have a list of locations for the tapes in MG: Survive?
If not, I'll start.
MGS3: Snake Eater:
[sp]In Zom-frica [FOB], after unlocking Transporter 02, head southwest to a pocket of dust that leads to a dead end. On your left up above the cliffs, there's a box. You need a bow, or a gun to shoot it.[/sp]
Ok what the fuck? I just made a hardened battle gear top, and I can't put ammo pouches on it. I have all the required materials and kuban energy, but when I try to craft it, there's an error sound. What am I missing here?
What's with coop?
Everyone is shooting full auto and shotgunning literally everything every game. Ammo resupply thing doesn't seem to work and even if i don't shoot i always come out with less ammo than i went in coop with

I hope eventually someone puts together a map online that has the locations of everything on it.
That second area is definitely something! I feel like they should've made a bigger deal out of the new enemies in it, though. Seriously impressed with the devs.
What do you mean it doesn't seem to work? Ammo resupply spawns an ammo resupply counter that you interact with, giving you some temporary ammo that lasts until the duration of the mission.
I have that problem as well. Ammo resupplies work for me when I make the lobby and go into a mission solo, but they don't when I play with a friend who hosts. It just lets you do the prompt indefinitely and doesn't give you ammo, or lets you do the prompt once and doesn't refill your stuff.
Also I thought you kept the ammo from the resupply to go back into the main game with? People were taking pouches and expensive guns in just because of the ammo you get for them.
