Metal Gear Megathread V - Kojima's been wanting out since MGS2
Imagine not having the terrible motion blur on MGS2 if we got it on PC. It always drove me nuts during cutscenes.
I always liked that motion blur, it added to the surreal tone of MGS2.
This has probably been said to death already. But while I don't think I'll buy any more Metal Gear Solid games from Konami, I'd probably be convinced to buy one if they had a story featuring The Boss/The Joy as a protagonist in WWII, and a competent writer working on it. Last I heard of such a thing was Kojima musing about it nearly six years ago. What do you folks think the likelihood of such a thing happening is? And if it did, would you buy it?

Not going to happen sadly
I want to be able to use Raiden's sword throughout the whole plant chapter. I remember going through every side thing in MGS 2 as a kid, hoping that something would unlock that sword.
Agreed. I think there were alternative missions in MGS2 Substance where you played as Ninja Raiden with the HF blade and had to dispose of bombs and stuff.
I remember i unlocked the HF Blade at the start after beating it with Code Breaker and it refused to work.
[editline]14th February 2018[/editline]
Equipping it would crash the game i think.
I'm just excited because if Battle Gear is working in Survive then within a day it will be modded into MGSV
Did Battle Gear even get tested for gameplay during development? Or a model rip or anything?
Did Battle Gear even get tested for gameplay during development? Or a model rip or anything?
The battle gear was implemented into the game, or a test bed for the game, and they decided it was too powerful and broke the game's balance and never implemented it into the main game. That seems a silly reason for removing it since there's so much other OP shit, including D-Walker, that it may as well have been left in.
That said there's no word on whether an upgrade system was ever created for battle gear or any alternate weapons, and there's very little in the game files related to battle gear, only the models of it in various stages of construction.
That's one thing I'm pretty curious about. I'm not that interested in the "zombies" so seeing the stuff added in Survive being modded to TPP would be pretty neat
The only good thing Konami can do for Metal Gear at this point is port MGS4 to a current platform. Ideally including PC.
Portable Ops remake when :v:
I actually liked it, a better playing graphically updated version would be nice, especially the town area.
Time optimistic if Survive sells well (I hope it doesn't because fuck that) we might actually get MGR2 which would be great but a monkey paw

If Konami aren't as stupid as we think, they should know not only is the Metal Gear IP hot property regardless of Survive but MGR was very well received.
It might depend more if Platinum are willing to do another given they are wanting to create their own IPs now.

The best thing Konami could do is let other companies use the Fox engine.

If you could carry people like in Ground Zeroes/Phantom Pain, the game would be way more tolerable
i think its hilarious that you hate konami and think they should get no money, but are still begging them for spinoffs and hd rereleases which would only net them more money
I'm not begging I'm saying it would be nice. Buying HD releases? Duuurrr it's almost like my vote with your wallet applies to showing that I want more Kojima Production games. Also by buying MGR2 I would be showing my support to Platinum with the draw back that Konami gets ancut. I'm sorry you didn't think this through.

Konami would sooner prefer to burn to the group and take all their IPs with them before sharing their secret golden goose.
D-Walker is ridiculously OP and fun

so I was absolutely correct in calling that you don't actually give a shit about the alleged way konami treats employees lol
Kojima making MG is over. He's wanted out for eons, ironically if konami was holy and righteous he would've been done before snake eater even existed
He's gone, he's found new ground, he doesn't want to come back. Best to get over it and give the talent he surrounded himself with a chance to show they could carry the torch rather than be an incredibly childish fanboy.
When #fuckkonami started I recall it being about quitting "real" games entirely for mobile and pachinko more than it was about the bad break up. By now neither are ongoing issues
the survive beta came out a day early, installing right now.

Nah, it came out on the 16th in a lot of places, just not the US. UK might have been the one they took as the time because it came out bang on midnight here.
[sp]It's fun[/sp]

original post said feb 16, and the english division usually uses pst for their time frame.

Nope, I do care.
If that's true you've got some weak will breaking your moral high ground for more opportunities to rebuy decade old games you've already played
But I still think you're just a diehard kojima fanboy using it as an excuse to shame people for interest in Survive
I made a joke about a switch port I'm not actually going to rebuy the HD collections when I already own the legacy collection
Lmao I made a joke about a switch port I'm not actually going to rebuy the HD collections when I already own the legacy collection
Haha you should take this comedy act on tour
Nope, I do care.

by buying a Metal Gear Solid HD Collection you're saying it's okay to lock employees away from their team making them communicate via messenger boy, deny previous employees who started up their own company health care, and to not let employees accept rewards they received because hey yet another way to buy games you already own am I right?
Yeah no you don't give a shit, you just don't like Survive.
Haha you should take this comedy act on tour
Hey it worked for Devil May Cry. That was a hypothetical though I'm not actually going to buy anymore HD rereleases I was just expressing my desire for MGR2. I'm sorry you didn't think this through
I'm sorry you didn't think this through
You've said this twice now but you're the one who hasn't made it past the "buying things konami publishes gives konami money and kojima hasn't wanted to make metal gear games for years so there's no way in hell he'd come back to make more" stage.
[editline]a[/editline]
Also Devil May Cry is Capcom, y'know, that publisher who's been re-releasing shit from last-gen Dead Rising games to Dragon's Dogma to re-releases of old Resident Evil games, including the brand-new Resident Evil 2 remake that's in development.
