Metal Gear Megathread V - Kojima's been wanting out since MGS2

I mean it looks like fun, but the always online bit alongside microtransactions kind of ruins it for me.
I've not single time played this online yet because no people playing, also the voice command menu is atrocious for PC.
Anyone playing on PC with a controller? I have this weird issue where the character walks left and right in a zigzag fashion when you press forward on the stick..
How do I get into the open beta? I bit the bullet and pre-ordered on Steam.

You don't even have to buy it to try the beta.
Aside from the controls fucking me up (why not just use MGSV's controls?) and the difficulty connecting to people I'm still really liking the beta. I managed to A rank the first mission with no equipment or upgrades just from knowing how the game works, I didn't get a S rank because I only found out you can boost the drill by reading this thread.
i.........
actually like the game
may allah have mercy on my soul but i like it
roses are red
violets are blue
mgs stopped
at metal gear 2
anyways, remember to give everything and anything a backhug in survive, since it's the strongest move in the game besides crafting a ton of machine gun placements.
Putting guns on top of watch towers/sand bag thingies is broke as dick and I love it
It's not even subtle how this game was definitely made for controllers. Playing with friends is pretty fun though, I like it.

the controls are good once you get used to them, the only thing that still messes me up is the weapon/equipment select. on the HUD your equipment is all in a row, but 1 changes the second item in the row, you hit 3 to change the first, and 4 changes the third. it's so disorienting
how do you change arrow types?
hold down 1 or whatever the button is on pc to swap primary weapons.
it uses the same mechanic as the attachment system from mgsv.

some notes:
you can shoot legs off zombies so they crawl and become slow.
their backs are also weakspots, has the same damage multiplier as a headshot.
backstabbing a detonator lets you loot their backpack which will either have materials or an ammo box.
backstabbing an armored guy cqc's the helmet off so you can headshot.
backstabbing a bomber will kill it without exploding.
the melee attack with a walker gear will one shot armored and bomber enemies.
Watch Kojima's game turn out to be an utter failure and this game succeeds extremely well, this reality is already fucked up enough that I could see it happening.

That could happen. Death Stranding is a new ip and Metal Gear is a recognized brand. That and the zombie/survival gameplay could do very well with the general public.

MG:S doesn't seem to have much marketing though (at least I haven't seen any of it), so it could also just disappear in a month.
Survive is great fun. It really makes you realize how solid MGSV's combat and movement are, when you're actually playing extremely aggressively against enemies you can't just chokeslam.
The guns feel good, the hitboxes are fucking fantastic. Knocking an Armored's helmet off on the first swing of an axe or bat and watching him sway just enough that his uncovered quartz head is in the way of your back-swing for an instant kill feels super rewarding.
Only issue with it is the bad control mapping for PC, but I'm getting a lot of juice out of this open beta. Makes me wanna buy it, but 30ish dollars is just out of impulse buy range. I don't want to reward Konami for flipping assets and an entire setting into a quick game, but they've made it so good I almost want to buy it to support this kind of videogame.
Man, they REALLY make you work for that S rank. We were literally just a hair away from it, and we were busting our asses out there.

Sometimes you're gonna want bombers to explode though, hurts other zombos.

Using the Kuban gained during a match on the drill to speed it up can get you a guaranteed S rank at the end, need someone to hang around to redo it though cause the boost only lasts upto 45s. Costs 5k per boost.
Mortars are life and pleasure on hard difficulty.

Also dudes attacking the drill will cause it to reset. And since (I THINK) the only metric that guides the rank is total energy drilled, you have to pretty much babysit the drill and maybe have people hang close to the wave spawn wormholes to grab the rainbow cubes that sometimes fall out of them for extra safety.

honestly i think aside from just not making more Metal Gear, this is probably the best thing Konami could have done without Kojima. just wacky little side stories and experiments with the gameplay. i really hope if the game fails they don't get the wrong idea and try to make a real Metal Gear without the original staff
I'm surprised that people are liking it. My 90 minutes with it were absolute trash. Maybe I should've played more and got more skills but I've never been so drained from such a small game session.

Admittedly it's much more a multi-player game than a single, I felt.
CQC is fun.

Also this is cool too.

Sadly aside from the stomp, CQC does no damage to enemies. I wish we could still do the chain cqc slam like in Peace Walker or even MGSV.
EDIT: Remember there WILL be multiple classes in the final version. Maybe there'll be a melee oriented one where CQC chain-slams or damaging CQC attacks are possible.
Metal Gear Survive is more enjoyable than I thought, but I'm not sure how the endgame content is going to work beyond just upgrading your base.
Content in general is a pretty big concern of mine now. While I thought it was pretty decent and the new features are neat I can see it getting old pretty fast if it's just what we've seen in the beta over and over.
Admittedly it's much more a multi-player game than a single, I felt.
That's because we're only playing the multiplayer portion.
Singleplayer will be an open world game.

The missions we have there's a number 1 and 3, and now we know they're also doing the event rotation like MGSV which had post launch FOB content for a pretty long time if not still ongoing

I'm all but certain there will be a CQC class
Leveling strength would be pointless if it only affects that shitty punch. Speaking of disappointed there's no respec in the beta
