This game is so much more fun compared to Overwatch. I think that it just might be down to the higher win rate though when playing public.
I also honestly think torvard needs a nerf, his shield is way too high to deal with on certain characters.
If Torvald's Protection, Barik's barricade, Fernando's Shield, etc. ever gives you troubles you can easily be dealt with with it by getting Wrecker. When buying items you should always think of what you'll need most during a match. Same thing goes for healing.
Torvald is also great against shields reliant characters.
So OB50s out on the PGR. Here's some of the stuff that's coming to live soon!
So how does Seris play in the higher skilled matches? Right now I've just started playing and she seems to pretty pretty good at flanking. I seem to do a lot more than my team mates, so I haven't gone out of my way to heal them usually...
She lacks the burst damage and the mobility to really flank anyone who knows how she works. Her stealth has a very long cast time so anyone who notices her (all of her skills are super loud) will blow her up before she can run away (though generally you'd already have used that skill to get In, so you'd be boned anyways).
A teaser

Here's the changelog for 0.51: http://forums.paladins.com/showthread.php?41993-Open-Beta-51-Patch-Notes-June-1st-2017
Next champion's gonna be a frontliner: Ash, the war machine

Now I'm not one to do this, but Zarya was literally all I could think of when I first saw Ash and her weapon. :v:
She's still very different, but this is the first time since Viktor that I couldn't stop making OW comparisons. :vs:
Changelog for 0.52: http://forums.paladins.com/showthread.php?43857-Open-Beta-52-Patch-Notes-June-9th-2017
And another one: Zhin, the Tyrant (new flank champion)
[t]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DB5-SilVoAEkKBc.jpg[/t]
He pours oil into his fire sword, and then he flings the burning oil at people.
Also survival is getting replaced with a new mode: Onslaught. It's a mixture of Team Deathmatch and King of the Hill, where you control the point and kill champions to lower the enemy team's ticket count. First team to lose all tickets loses (kinda like smite's arena mode).
Here's the changelog for 0.53: https://paladins.gamepedia.com/Paladins_Beta_Version_0.53.1938
And here's the changelog for 0.54: https://paladins.gamepedia.com/Paladins_Beta_Version_0.54.1958.1
Update 54 made a rebalances and changes to how you get currency and to the costs of most things. Basically you need to grind less for cards, but you now need to grind more if you want cosmetics (gold sink, and extra goals that don't affect your progression as much). You can also grind for longer with bots.
They also added a new damage champion: Lian, Scion of House Aico

A new support character is coming out next week: Jenos, the Ascended (he fights with a magic gun and can heal people through walls)

Here's the changelog for 0.55: http://forums.paladins.com/showthread.php?49568
Well this community pretty much died off while I was gone.
Well this community pretty much died off while I was gone.
I took a break from both Smite and Paladins after around the time Ash came out. Actually started to play again today.
Jenos is super fun btw. Might actually be one of my new favorite characters.
[editline]29th July 2017[/editline]
Also find it kinda funny that both him and Janus from Smite have similar ults with the same name. :v:

Jenos was fun to play, but I feel his cripple legendary kind of busted. I think that legendary should turn his root into a projectile to add some skill to it.
His ult feels amazing to land though, just like Janus'.
I tried out Paladins - was a lot of fun, to be honest. I've enjoyed my experience with it a lot more than I did with OW so far.
The game play just feels smoother and faster to me, the actual main weapon(s) are stronger than the abilities/ultimate, and the customization of the card load out and items allow for fun experimentation.
My favorite combination so far is Viktor with Gunnery, Firing Stance, and Speed Load.
There was a pretty important update the other day: https://paladins.gamepedia.com/Paladins_Beta_Version_0.56.2014
*Ranked 2.0: Before this update the ranked system was a very simple leaderboard, now its something kinda similar to what you can find in Smite. (several tiers with subdivisions, there are seasons and splits now, and there are also new rewards)
[t]https://web2.hirez.com/paladins//wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Patch-Preview-Content-Ranked-Icons.jpg[/t]
*There's a new skin bundle for Ash thats kinda like the Kinessa one: once you buy the bundle you get a short quest chain that unlocks additional cosmetics (2 sprays and a skin set for skye).
[t]https://web2.hirez.com/paladins//wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Patch-Preview-Content-Ash-Ronin.jpg[/t]
*They made changes to several weapons and legendary cards to make them more viable/feel better. (for example, they made Ying's mirror shoot faster, more often but deals a bit less damage, and has different sound effects now)
And kinda late but forgot to mention that Ruckus looks like this now:
[t]https://paladins.gamepedia.com/media/paladins.gamepedia.com/e/ed/Ruckus_Thumbnail.png?version=c3030b4f0ccc23cb246ad475b4fc20e2[/t]
I haven't played in a couple months but damn, even more than just redoing the model of ruckus, they've replaced a lot of sounds of various characters too. Pretty good changes overall. Maeve and Ying are of course my favourite characters still.
They still haven't really solved the worst problems though.
First is the performance is a bit shit and is too CPU-bound, which sucks if you're trying to get 144 fps on a 1440p display.
And secondly the queueing for casual is pretty horrible, when it comes to team comp. At least when I queue for casual I already have in mind what character I want to play, and I'm pretty sure quite a lot of people feel the same, but then you have to begrudgingly go tank. Imo they should take the quickmatch queue-up system from Heroes of the Storm where you pick your hero(es) before queueing, and then the game puts the teams together with somewhat sane (it's casual) comps.

That's how the game used to work back in alpha (pick a champion then a game mode), but I believe people didn't like it so it was changed to what you see now.
I personally don't have that much trouble with casuals. It gets better as you level up, since people start to figure out that picking whatever all the time will usually end with you getting stomped into the ground. You could always try to get to ranked asap (if you haven't unlocked it already) and see how it works for you.

Why didn't they like it?
And people do that for me (and sometimes I do it,) but it's just not really fun when you already had in mind what you wanted to play. And also when people wait for others to fill in a role, and then multiple switch at the last second, leaving you still with a screwed up team.
Next champion is gonna be a damage one: Strix, Ghost Feather
Why didn't they like it?
No clue, though I personally preffer the current system, but that's probably because I'm used to playing MOBAs.
I always get put in matches against people that are way above me in skill level. In casual mode.
People were screaming at me to uninstall the game ect. because I got put in what seem to be the wrong match by the match making system.
It's really not fun.
A sniper with stealth.
oh noooooooooooooo
[editline]18th August 2017[/editline]
Joking aside, I just hope that he isn't as bad as Kinessa in terms of usefulness.
(ie: really bad)
Now you can have two useless snipers on your team!
Here's the changelog for 0.57: https://paladins.gamepedia.com/Paladins_Beta_Version_0.57.2045
Apart from Strix, they added a couple of new skins for Viktor and Lex, and they reworked a couple of skills and weapons (Lex's magnums went from pretty much a reskin of Androxus' to semi automatic guns that shoot faster, have more ammo, but deal less damage and lose accuracy per shot), and Ruckus getting a new skill (he now shoots rockets with his alt fire).

He seems quite a bit better than kinessa. Flare can kind of be used to help your team. He doesn't entirely have to just sit far away, and that flashbang is pretty great imo.
Here's the changelog for 0.58: https://paladins.gamepedia.com/Paladins_Beta_Version_0.58
There's a lot of changes coming with that update, including a visual rework for Barik:
[t]https://web2.hirez.com/paladins//wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Patch-Preview-Content-Barik.jpg[/t]
They're also adding a "VIP" system, that works more or less like the season tickets do in Smite: You buy into it to gain access to bonus cosmetics that can only be obtained through it. You can either buy it with money or with crystals. Just like with the season tickets, playing games gives you vip points (fantasy points in smite) that you trade for items from the vip store.
They are doing something like the Project Olympus in Smite and they are upgrading the game to have a 64-Bit Client, DirectX 11 and Resolution Scaling.
Also Maeve is getting a legendary skin:

This game is a lot better then I thought it'd be! I downloaded it as a meme with friends and we all came out liking it more than Overwatch. It's kind of depressing that it's basically been permanently branded as a rip-off of Overwatch.
It's kinda nice that they're making the artstyle more consistent and toning down a bit on the more "futurey" look that some of the older characters had.
0.59 is coming out next week, here's the changelog: http://forums.paladins.com/showthread.php?56935-Open-Beta-59-Patch-Notes-September-20th-2017
The next champion is gonna be a boy: Talus, of the Ska’drin (flank)

There's going to be a bunch of pretty good skins with that update. Also kinda like how they did with Torvald, they are changing Makoa's accessories from his eyes+ears to his shell (rip googly eyes)
And speaking of Torvald, he is getting a pretty important rework (new weapon and altfire, his old altfire is getting moved to skill 2)
