I don't even know what to think about this. I'm simultaneously angry that this is another one day joke, and absolutely ecstatic because the absolute madmen actually added helicopters and modern tanks. Gaijin has a history of April Fool's jokes that are way cooler, and way more fun than the actual game. This time they're doing a thing that everybody actually wants.
I can only hope that as others have said, this is just a test of a Cold War Thunder spinoff and not just more ridiculous wankery at the top of the tech tree for the 3% of people who play rank 5, because fuck. War Thunder with modern shit is such a cool idea and a niche that just does not exist right now.

Apache Air Assault was pretty decent. It fell in line right with where War Thunder is with its sim-lite mentality. I liked it a lot.

IS-6 isn't that bad, it does pretty well when up-tiered. The RP and SL gain is good as well. Tbh, if you were going to get a Russian premium I'd recommend the T34-100. People may sneeze and kill you at higher tiers, but you still can go on pretty good murder sprees.
I feel like if/when helicopters are added to the game they might need surface to air or air to air missiles as a counter. Seems like a lot of people are just sitting as far back as possible and sniping with the ATGMs. I mean yeah that's how they're employed in real life, but I think there needs to be a better counter to it than just AA guns.

planes mowing down the helicopters with guns sounds great to me, wish they had some in the current deal
It seems that they've taken the time to actually model the 2A5's addon armor independently of the turret.
They could easily whip out a 2A4 out of this.

Yeah, visually it has stuff under the addon armor, but hitboxes still count the addon pylon even though it's been blown off, I had this happen against a 2A5 where I fired at the turret where the chevron had been blown off and it still counted so the round ricocheted off of it.
But yeah, I reckon this event is a test for A) Smoke Launchers, since we've had them coming for ages, B) Helicopters (doubtful, since they're just recycled Apache: Air Assault stuff with very simple controls), C) Composite/ERA armor (possible considering we might actually get tanks that have them (apart from Type 87 which according to Gaijin doesn't have composite armor despite people having shown proof that at least the lower glacis has some, or not?)
It's gotta be either modern tanks and/or composite armor and ERA they're testing. Too much effort for it to just be a test of smoke launchers.

No the reference to the da'at yichud, the explanation of the anti grav tech and how they found it and engineered it is pretty much the same as in the latest Wolfenstein (Maybe its just a coincidence)
And yes all those models are community mods, the first one being really well made and would not surprise me if it ended in the game like the german one.
So the MBT's APDS uses a new shell type called apds_fs_long_tank. It seems to be cribbed mostly from ap_large_caliber_tank (uses the same new variables) which suggests that a general APDS/solid shot rework is in the works.
(Also, apds-fs now has a slope effect table, though it still uses apds table)
