The tail gunners do shit damage (bomber balance from the glory days?) and any damage to the plane causes some sort of critical malfunction

I kind of feel like bombers were a mistake and while I don't want CIWS-tier autowin turrets on them, I would greatly enjoy an improved manual gunner aim where I'm not guessing what distance the guns are set at with an awkward third-person offset, misaligned aim, and shakey-cam if I'm using WEP.
I would love a mode without bombers. They kind of ruin certain BRs when 80% of the game is chasing a bomber at 30k ft every game.

Back when b17s were king it was just a slaughter, but at least nobody climbed to space. The current bombers are only fun for planning attack and landing approaches tbh

Also holy shit have i spent a lot on it since i started, remind me to never look at that list again.
Too bad they pander to the mouthbreathing fighters who like to sit on your ass for a good 20 seconds because they're not patient/skilled enough to attack from an angle, worst part is they can do it easy. They'd be dead fast as hell if I had centered gunner aim, or the AI gunners were competent.

The issue is that even though that was always very easy to do, it means you need to do a good pass and then wait long minutes for the bomber to go down, which the average player doesn't have the patience for (and admittedly the kill system doesn't really accommodate for, often awarding "crashes" if the kill isn't instantaneous). So they had to make bombers death spiral after bit of wing damage so people can have their kill immediately and stop killing themselves on the turrets.
Once again, bombers were a mistake. I think you could keep attackers relevant, but bombers better suit AI control at this rate unless they intend to both fix gunner view and the gamemodes themselves. They're kind of the quasi-artillery of the air and plain Air RB being a stagnant mode doesn't help much. I'm hoping World War mode or other stuff comes to make it interesting. Or even more Enduring Conflict, where the cyclic one-death style of normal Air RB doesn't apply. [sp]Coming from the guy who did a BV squad where we racked up the most kills AND basically took out all 3 bases + the airfield.[/sp]

It's not that bombers are hard to kill. It's that it takes an inordinate amount of boring as hell busywork to do it safely.
Man, the T34 is so damn good. Good thing Gaijin buffed post pen spalling of those 120mm guns. It's so good in-fact, that I have bought my second ever talisman for it. And the stock ammo is supposedly STILL underperfoming.
Bombers seem hard to implement in any game like this, especially if you want to make them a fair and fun experience for bomber pilots and fighter pilots. I like flying bombers, tbh, but I've not gotten past the B-25. I liked trying to fly it in RB since I enjoyed the increased challenge, but didn't like how useless I felt or how pointless it felt if the rest of my team died and I was one of a few bombers left flying around. I like flying fighters too, but experiences I've had with higher-tiered fighters and a lot I've heard means I probably won't bother going beyond the B-25
The underlying issue with bombers is that they are tools of strategy crammed into a tactical environment. If war thunder behaved somewhat like Aces High II, where the world was one large persistent map instead of a 30 square kilometer instance, strategic bombers would be much more valued.

[/QUOTE] (Internal screaming regarding ground attack) Really though, I know about 80% of air RB disagrees with me but ground attack isn't THAT bad. My main issues with it arise with never ending krymsk/berlin spam and those doods who blind hunt for infinite view range or w/e to find the last one alive. Also, it'd be nice if there was a way to make it so you could still win after your team loses all planes by destroying way more of the enemy's ground ai units prior. I know I've not explained it well but basically it's annoying knowing that in most circumstances GA's can't really determine the fate of the match even though the mission obj is usually ground based simply because there's sooo many fuckin' tanks and because all the planes usually die first. Killing the enemy air forces doesnt mean shit if you have no ground pounders and your own ground forces are nearly wiped out.

Some maps can be won by a single cheeky duck. That same cheeky duck can be put on fucking Norway. Any time you hop in an attacker in Air RB, you're rolling the dice whether it's ez-pz or basically a waste of your time and you're going to be an overweight fighter.

This would be neat though, as it'd make bombers less useless alongside with making them more satisfying to fly.

I just spent 15 minutes tank-wrestling with an IS-4 on Sinai dunes. While at the same time bouncing shots from an IS-3 standing just behind me. When the IS-3 finally charged me I was forced to use my HE shells in a desperate attempt at atleast destroying IS-4 gunbarrel. As it turns out I destroyed the gun of THE FUCKING IS-3 STANDING BEHIND ME, and killed him because misfire. Wha the fuck just happened there. Japanese ram magic back at it again except it was all 3 of our remaining players (+me) and they didn't seem to get damaged from doing so :glare: edit: Not only that but they all seem to have this weird addiction with magnetizing to the optimal turret shooty spot straight behind you so that you can blapt 12.7's into their engine block. It's like they literally want you to engine kill them.
