They became a standard really fuckin' fast once they were modestly reliable; instead of "try to keep the gun level" feature that Sherman crews hated.

As far as WT is concerned, UK gets the best type earliest. The Sherman style one only works at low speeds.
What's the point of hesh lol, I shot a KV-1 in the back of the turret at 90 degrees and it didn't do jack shit and at it's tier there's so many IS-6 and T-29sl with even heavier armor. There's like no reason to use just HEAT-FS

HESH is great for killing Soviets bounce-slopes frontally and also having a chance to bust the gun if it doesn't kill them outright.
I imagine the 90mm HESH is kinda useless, though.

It's an HE round with a very high amount of penetration. HESH is the best ammo type in the game, where available (and it can pen)
If it fails to do any damage to the back of a KV-1 turret or something stupid, that's just the usual server shitting itself

Angling matters none with HESH. HEAT isn't terribly prone to bouncing, but it is sensitive to angling making the armour thicker. With HESH, every hit is a 90 degree flat hit, no matter the angle.
Waiting for when they just cutoff date the late war stuff and put it in its own game mode/tree, but they wont. Guarantee you 90% of players will never touch this stuff.

Planes wont be an issue, even without premium its really not that bad. I casually researched most of my German jets without noticing at all.
Then again I do have something like 1200 in game hours.

The fuckhuge gun was only on the A model, unfortunately. I haven't a clue as to what sort of targets it would be viable for, but I am going to be damned if I don't try to kill everything with it if/when it's released.
My hype for Italian planes is reaching critical mass. I had a very aggressive playstyle with British planes, but an overly cautious one with most Axis aircraft. I have a feeling, however, that Italian planes will be an absolute joyous experience with an even mix of both.
Even if some Italian planes are undergunned/underpowered, the fact that many of them can put up a fight that few people expect in other sims will at least give me immense satisfaction if I manage to perform well. Same reason why I savor jet kills in props.
Italian WWII aircraft engineering has been pretty much simply better than German but Germans loved to snuff the Italian projects anyway even after their own people assessed them as superior (that's what happened with G.56).
Italians gonna be completely fantastic.
