MBT70 when?
It's actually not that great of a tank. The composite it's made of is just RHA and Soft Steel, and the LOS thicknesses are going to get obliterated by anything stronger than an L7 (cough cough T64.) The rest of it is a tech-gone-wild budget overrun where the only neat features game wise is that the driver sits in the turret, which has an inner layer of armor to protect from hull damage, and that there's a pop-out 20mm that never worked well in practice. It does have the hat-trick hydropneumatic suspension for whatever that'd be worth.
[t]http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2015/52/1451157832-mbt70.jpg[/t]
The main gun is autoloaded sure, but the 152mm APDSFS isn't record shattering (only value I find online is unsourced 220-250mm flat at 2000m) and did poorly on composited armor, and the MGM-51 missiles still only sit pretty around 430mm pen.
The German one only got the Rheinmetall 120mm fitted on a single unit (iirc) because they figured they'd stick it on local Leopards instead.
Unless they gimp the T-64 something hard (which I doubt) and/or use the worst of the worst turret armor profile (there's like a bajillion variants), nothing America has competes until the XM-1 and then you're in power creep territory again, because while the gun is an upgraded L7 clone to fire even GO_FASTER APDS-FS, the frontal armor RHA-equivalent is reaching cholesterol levels hard to properly imagine. The only other option I see is T30/T58 and that's really entering ludicrous tank destroyer zone because the T-64 was just too good for the time. A few of us were expecting T-55s slathered in ERA instead.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/F7M6h01.jpg[/t]
[sp]Secretly holding out that they give USA the T54/T57/T58 autoloaders as a test-bed for how the French armor tree will work. :3c[/sp]
I'm real curious to see what other tanks they come up with to match the T-64. The M60A1 with ERA certainly won't do it alone.
I agree M60A1 with ERA is bad match for T-64A.
Imho, they should have done either T-64 vanilla or even better, T-55 with ERA vs M60A1 ERA, and then proper top tier should be MBT-70 vs T-64BM.
The main differences between T-64A and T-64BM are that the BM can launch ATGM missiles from the main gun (just like MBT-70!) and gets a 1000hp engine (just like MBT-70!)
T-64A is a lot better than M60A1 ERA but a good deal worse than MBT-70.
German "lower era 6" could be either Leopard 1A6 or the practically armour-less Leopard 2 prototype, the "higher" era 6 could be proper fullfat Leopard 2.
British "lower era 6" could be Chief 10, "upper era 6" could be the Challenger (would be most armoured, but also slowest, and lack HEAT and ATGMs).
Type 74 is already definitely "lower era 6" as is, and I dunno if Type 90 well enough to be able to tell if it would stand fairly as an era 6.
I'm also somewhat baffled that they haven't done anything with the T-62, since that's already in the game and it's variants seems like a much more even match for what the Western nations would be able to bring.
T-62 has been a bit of a historical mishap and I think it's fine that it's represented by the single vanilla variant, I would rather have multiple T-64s than T-62s.
Guys the balance doesn't matter at this point. The 1.71 update won't even include any vehicles because Gaijin knows that nobody will actually reach rank 6 for at least a couple years

I have like, every single era 5 tank sans the Mk5 Chieftain and Japan.
I've got two talismans on era 5 vehicles (M60A2 and Cent Mk10).
I'm fucking ready. Bring it, Gaijin.
I've been waiting for a late variant of the Leopard ever since A1A1 came out.

Streamers said German top tier tank will be announced today (probably in approx. 3 hours)
You can probably expect either the early Leopard 2 prototype or A6

Probably a A0, A6 is waaaaaaay too advanced and high end to be announced along side a T-64 and a M60 variant. A0 alone has a 120mm and composite so that should be on par with T-64

Think the A6 would refer to the Leo 1 A6, some uparmoured quite rare Leo modification that attempted to almost make the Leo 1 into the Leo 2, but quickly realized it'd be better just to make the Leo 2 and dump the 1.
Guys why does today facebook quiz ask about MBT-70? :scream:

I really hope gaijin gets us some new maps. These new tanks on the old maps dont feel like they would meld too well.
Well, they showed off a new map, which is modern day Germany. It looked so nice.

Seriously. I don't know why they keep focusing on the absolute top tier. If they add a top tier US tank I am 6 fucking pattons in a row away from it so it doesn't affect me for like a year, and the CEO confirmed that the grind will only be reduced if "statistics and data" show its appropriate. They're focusing entirely on the whales who convert gold into research and it just leaves me completely disinterested
I still want Arhnem and / or Nijmegen. I swear they mentioned those before

yeah their data must be shit if they haven't changed it back, top tier stuff gets really bad.
still ridiculous that you have to grind for parts + FPE, too
MBT-70 looks neat though, I still kinda want it.
[editline]24th August 2017[/editline]
they gave it the hydropneumatic suspension too, so it might make a pretty good hull-down fighter

I want a US map, fighting in the suburbs of some US city WiC style would be a thing of beauty.

The grind is the biggest reason I stopped playing the game.

Arnhem and Nijmegen themselves are boring. They should opt for my hometown in the middle. Almost 73 years ago there was a 3 day long battle. English Shermans battled German Tigers, Panthers and 2 King Tigers.
The 1st Worcesters and 7th Somersets were ordered to take the town of Elst ASAP. The operation started at 1600 23 September 1944. Before they had entered the town of Elst, they encountered 4 Panthers, which were all destroyed. [t]http://www.worcestershireregiment.com/images/1st_Worc_Elst_1944/Mussenbergstraat_1944.jpg[/t]
The red numbers are the 4 destroyed Panthers. Night fell before they reached Elst.
The following morning, right before entering the town they encountered another Panther. It was abandoned after it's tracks broke. This one was fresh from the factory, as brand new as can be.
[t]http://www.worcestershireregiment.com/images/1st_Worc_Elst_1944/Panther_tank_gun_wrong_way.jpg[/t]
’Right in front of us in the middle of the road was a Panther tank.
Nobby trod on the brakes so suddenly that the rear end of the carrier rose up sharply as if trying to overtake the front end, and for a fraction it seemed to be suspended there, then it fell back with a bump and rocked to and fro once or twice before becoming still. For one awful moment we thought our time had come and we would be blasted out of existence by the tank's 88mm gun, until we saw, to our heartfelt relief, that it was pointing the other way. We had come up behind it.
In an instant, and without stopping to think, Nobby and I leapt out of our seats, sprinted across the intervening few yards, and leapt on to the back of the tank. Nobby thrust the muzzle of his Sten gun into the turret the moment I yanked the hatch open. Then his look of grim determination turned to one of complete amazement. ‘It's empty. There's nobody in it,’ he said, and dropped down inside while I kept watch in case the crew should be in the vicinity. When he emerged he was still surprised. ‘It's a new one. It's only got forty-five kilometers on the clock. It must have been driven from the nearest railhead and then abandoned.’
The town was occupied by the 10th SS Panzer division. They were reinforced by two King Tiger companies from the 506th Schwere Panzer Abteilung. Not exactly sure how the battle went, but on the 25th the town was liberated from the German army.
This is a map of what the town looked like in 1944, roughly:
[t]http://www.worcestershireregiment.com/images/1st_Worc_Elst_1944/Elst_street_plan1944.jpg[/t]
The church was shelled by British artillery after they decided it was an observation post:
[t]http://www.worcestershireregiment.com/images/1st_Worc_Elst_1944/Elst_Church_Sept1944.jpg[/t]
Even after heavy shelling, it still stood. In fact, it still stands to this day. It's been restored though.
This is what the main road itself looked like after the battle:
[t]http://www.worcestershireregiment.com/images/1st_Worc_Elst_1944/Damaged_street_Elst_1944.jpg[/t]
A Tiger was found abandoned along the main road between Arnhem and Nijmegen near Elst:
[t]http://www.worcestershireregiment.com/images/1st_Worc_Elst_1944/Ditched_Tiger_at_de_Hoop.jpg[/t]
And it seems there was a War Thunder player at the battle too:

All in all it'd make a pretty cool map. A town, orchards, two churches and dykes. And a cool historical location. The front was stuck right here for half a year too, so there was plenty of fighting in the area.
They mentioned operation marketgarden before, so I just assumed they would go for the major citys
They also failed horribly restoring one of those panthers >:(
Its in a museum right now all ugly
Also might been an other battle in the neterlands oops

I kinda agree with this, most shells just evaporate if they fail to pen even at extreme angles.
The Tiger II Sla.16 is pretty goddamn fun. I bought one on a whim because I needed a german premium, I just got hired full time at work so yay reward time, and I kinda love the Tiger II.
Such a satisfying tank. Took a while to pick up how to play, but it's quite rewarding and I can easily get 4-5 kills a match with it. I don't really think its OP (at least not as much as the IS-6, which I would've got if not for my ~honor~), but it seems most people put themselves in spots where I can easily pick them off.

If it's OP in any way, it's that it gets to be a marginally more armored Tiger II H with 30% more engine at the exact same BR, which is more due to compression and how absurd a II H can be in 5.7s, but bad it can be in 7.7s.
And now with APDS and L7s at 7.0, Obj 906 and T-44-100, tons of new at 6.7 and 7.0 - Tiger II H isn't the obnoxious balance whore it once was.
