doing CAS in high BR battles is so much fun, especially if you have a good plane to do it with. My current favorites are the Wyvern, Yak-9T (that delicious 37mm), and Ho-229, which has ridiculous pen with the 30mm HVAPs
You should try the AD-2 Skyraider. The most recent update set its 100% power to 2700hp, and its WEP is now 3200hp. It flies incredibly well, now
So I'm slowly approaching Tier 5 on the soviet tank tree, and I see a lot of mixed opinions on HEATFS ammo. What is the current status, was it nerfed recently or something?
Ammo hits generally explode real gud. Crewmembers have been known to absorb the laser and post-pen fragments, but supposedly this was fixed recently. Good for one-hits, poor for crew kills. However, sometimes ammo won't explode for seemingly random reasons, like all other shell types. Also, it goes fast(ish). AFAIK, HEATFS works just fine.

I need way more practice with bombs, because these maps with nothing but medium tanks and light pillboxes are driving me up the fucking wall
I'd have to accredit my bombing skills to flying the BTD-1. It basically taught me the importance of airbrakes and sightless bombing. Fun plane, has the aerodynamics of a bathtub though.
If there is a lack of AAA or enemy planes, eg you managed to get into CAS very early you can try stall bombing with an assault fuse. You have to use a large calibre of bomb for this to work like a 1000kg, but the advantage is pretty huge because the unsuspecting tankers below have no idea that it is actually coming with no time to respond. I normally use this as a way of taking out unsuspecting AAA from a high altitude, its a bit unorthodox within WarThunder's meta but it has its place. Gain altitude, spot a target and use your map to line up where to drop and finally stall out and release the bomb(s). You'll want to pick out stationary tank destroyers, campers of the like for the best results. Don't do this at jet BR, that is a very bad idea. :v:
https://warthunder.com/en/news/5005-development-shell-and-bullet-synchronization-en
Hopefully the MK103 / MK108s and other large calibre shells will spark less and kill like it is supposed to
Taran's APDSFS is actually really good. Swapped to it as a primary after I got bored of some fucking HEAT-FS mishaps that were driving my blood pressure up.
[t]https://i.imgur.com/T89W5Qe.jpg[/t] I've discovered the charm of frontline bombers. He-111 H-3 has 8x250kg bombs, a bomber sight, the agility of a heavy fighter, and gets matched with biplanes. Fear me, medium tanks.

Got onto that stupid dunkirk map that has the whole english channel modeled in my G8N1. Was able to cook myself some cheese toasties and eat them before I even made it halfway. What the hell were they thinking putting this in the normal rotation?
The H-16's 13mm rear turret should also not be underestimated, can easily bring down early monoplanes; killed 2 Spittys with it.
I actually suck with bombs :v:
Approach fast and at a low altitude, and dive on your target while you're in cockpit view, with the target directly in your gun sight. Start pulling out as late as possible without crashing, and drop the bombs the instant you lose sight of your target under the plane's nose
The Waffenträger is basically a half-height Tiger, isn't it? I'm just about keeping up with Tigers in streets too. Cross-country, though...

Ammo rack hit means: "one shot! one kill!" Use these ammo types if you have: APCBC for all nations. "Aim to ammo racks or crew cupolas on tarret" APDS for Tier V and upper British. "Aim to fuel tanks or crew" APFSDS if you have just use this one! "Aim to ammo racks" HESH for killing T-54, T-62, IS-6, T-10M, IT-1 type vehicles, it not work as good as German vehicles (Tiger II/H, Panther series). "Aim to ammo racks or crew cupolas on tarret" All of other ammo types are trash expect ATGM "It's only choice for IT-1 type tanks".
what
Long stuff about ammos.
The full ammo rack is situational, there are some tanks (like the Wirbelwind) that with a full ammo rack has a high chance to go boom, some tanks that just won't explode, and some tanks that are so paper thin that no matter how many ammos you have on your tank, you'd die for either hull breach or all crew dieing before ammorack. Other than that, just know what kind of ammos you are using against pepole, like you can't go full APCR and expect to pen anyone, especially at late tiers (I am looking at you PT-76) where sloped armors do their dirty jobs. Speaking of ammos, what utility has HE other than *hoping* to hullbreach tanks to some extent?
It also hull-breaks and can be strafed by .50s. :cat:
I'm wierd though and don't rely on my armor playing the Tiger. For me at least, the playstyle isn't too dissimilar between the two unless I waltz into a herd of t34s around a corner or something, in which case I'd probably last longer in the Tiger.
The Marder is still so lovely in RB

[t]https://i.imgur.com/jfEaiRR.png[/t] man, how embarrassing
Doesn't seem outside of the realm of possibility
Effective thickness isn't the only thing that determines if the shell bounces or not. Case in point: that 12mm engine deck bounce. Also: 29
Yeah, I had an IS-2 shot bounce off the front of a Hellcat, he was coming over a hill slightly up and angled. I shot him wherever, didn't think it would matter. The shell just deflected like it was nothing despite the effective armour being about 60mm.
Effective thickness isn't the only thing that determines if the shell bounces or not. Case in point: that 12mm engine deck bounce.
There's a degree of randomness to every shot. Fuck there was a degree of randomness to shots irl. In lots of tests of actual tank guns against steel plates where they shoot identical plates five times and only three shots go through. It isn't some kind of russian bias conspiracy They only bias the devs have is towards whatever premium is selling the best (can I not face 10 fucking IS-6s on one team please)
