Any tips for learning how to not suck ass as a pilot in realistic battles?
Depends on the nation/plane you re playing. There are some general tips that always work: Always try to have a height/energy advantage over the enemy. When diving, don't turn, just disengage and try to find a more suitable angle of approach. You want to make your attacks in a straight line so you can run away quickly. Learn when to(or to not) engage flaps. Some planes like the Fw190 excell at scissoring, it's a good idea know when to cut throttle during defensive manouvers so that you have a chance of getting on your enemy's back.
Let's say I'm flying the Spitfire MkIIb, how do I use that plane? Or on the other hand what should I think about if I'm using any of the Typhoon planes?
Let's say I'm flying the Spitfire MkIIb, how do I use that plane? So that sets you on a pretty good start against most planes. Spitfire's biggest weakness is by far it's inability to sustain high speeds without ripping wings. Avoid sharp turns and doing corkscrews at high Gs because you WILL rip. I don't fly them, but the roll rate also seem to be pretty mediocre. Don't follow German planes in a steep dive, they can survive much higher speeds. Typhoons and, later, Tempests are a wholly different beast. They have great acceleration, great dive speed and good energy retention. Don't try to turn fight in those(it's pretty bad at it), your best bet is energy fighting(aka vertical manouvers and Boom n' Zoom). Can survive higher air speed than Spitfires but still not enough to keep up with Germans. Never go slow in those, you have poor flight performance at low speeds and big target. Also, at very high speed (500+kmh) beware of compression. That is, loss of responsiveness from controllable surfaces of the plane(rudder, ailerons, elevator). At lower altituded it can be fatal.
Thank you that's a ton of useful information, will keep that in mind when I take the planes out next time!
By the way, War Thunder wiki has some info on different flying styles and applicable planes like : Boom n' Run, Turn n' Burn, Boom n' Zoom etc.

Get above your enemies, try to draw them up to you, and make them fight on your territory. Do not commit hard, if you dive and lose a lot of height you will struggle to initiate again. If your enemy commits to a sustained dogfight, then you're at a huge advantage, and should just be able to abuse the Spit's ability to do tight vertical turnarounds, but don't go for a prolonged chase. Let them come to you (from below) and force them to duel And, as always, look for 1v1s over groups, and try and pick off the highest/fastest opponent you can first, and work your way down
What's the point of even having fully upgraded gunners if they don't even bother to shoot :/
Uhu GET, it's cute.
Uhu GET, it's cute.
How does it fly? Looks like a light aircraft with quite a bit of lift no? I also wanted it but fuck staying inside grinding all day when its +25 something degrees out
Uhu GET, it's cute.
Little birb Uhu or big brrrrt Uhu?
How does it fly? Looks like a light aircraft with quite a bit of lift no? I also wanted it but fuck staying inside grinding all day when its +25 something degrees out
Here you have the stat card. It lies about the turn time. When performing a pure horizontal turn(aka plane rotated 90deg.), with combat flaps, this thing turns LITERALLY in place. It struggles getting to even 300 kmh though.
The little one, also fuck you for not anwsering me when I greeted you during a match :v:
Most of today I've been reading a comic on my second monitor while absent mindedly grinding, sorry :v:
Had my first run in with a sheriden in my t-34-100, he killed my gunner and breach first shot so I went ramming speed and pushed him along a street into a building, destroying his engine. Kept pushing him so I was under his front, pushing him up so his barrel was unable to aim down to hit me, started to repair. He suddenly kills me with a rocket that left his barrel at about a 45 degree angle downwards putting it basically parallel with the top of my turret, somehow finds something to explode on anyway and kills my whole crew. That is not how ATGM's work gaijin [editline]6th August 2016[/editline] And damn I kind of want the brumbar but at the same time, its tier 3, It seems to just be a shittier kv-2
From what I've tried of the Brumm in test drive the gun is disgustingly inaccurate (go for shots at about 400m, sometimes they'll sail way over a tank, sometimes fall under, which is fucking awful for how close of a range that is) and the tank isn't really fast enough to close to shooting range reliably. The armour is better than the Tiger 1 at 5.0 tho so I guess it has that going for it I think it'd be ok (if unreliable) if you're willing to J out of Kursk/Mozdok/El Alamein etc
So I started playing warthunder recently. I'm currently just getting into russian tier 2 aircraft and here's my thoughts so far: BB-1: God tier aircraft capable of really good speed, even with a full bombload near ground level. I usually line my self up parallel to the line of the of armored cars/ground targets and can typically clear half of them in one run. Not terribly difficult to topscore in arcade. Bad thing is that the tail is fucking terrible and the control lines vaporize at the slightest amount of damage leading to... Problems. Nothing a little sideways flight + rudder use can't fix though (atleast to get to base). SU MV5: To call this an upgrade to the BB-1 is a lie. The armor in my experience is generally useless as most of the time that my pilot is killed he is killed through the cockpit glass. Generally slower than the BB-1 but otherwise similar in performance to the bb-1. Still retains those same issues as the BB-1 where the tail is made of tissue paper and has a tendency to shred. Also, I've recently started having engine trouble where after even 1-3 shots the engine shits itself. <insert russian biplane(s) here>: All excellent aircraft that perform well in both ground attack and dog fights. No major weaknesses that I can see. I-16 type 5: Awful compared to the biplanes. Anything it does the biplanes (generally) do as well or better. SB-2M-100: Rather lackluster bomber that seems somewhat useless due to it's terrible bomb load and because anything you'd use it for the BB-1/SU MV5 does better. SB-2M-100: Very little use of it because it's a vaguely upgraded 100 with a battle rating too damn high for its capabilities. I'm sure it'd be more useful in tier one stuff, but where it sits now it's terrible because it gets thrown in with higher end tier two crap and gets vaporized instantly. MIG-3-15 (original version): Oddball plane with much improved performance over the I-16 type 5 that can somewhat participate in dogfights. I don't like it though because the wings seem to break quite easily and because I'm pretty sure the engine is made of napalm coated origami. Seriously though, every time I've flown it so far the engine has died on me after minimal damage. Again, I've just started so perhaps some of the shit planes here have some redeeming quality that I didn't see.
Grant I get, nothing exciting about it.
I now have two Grants, now I just need the KV-220 to complete my KV collection
Grant I get, nothing exciting about it.
It does come with a wall of text decal that can be pretty obnoxious when made max size and pasted on a tank 4 times though.
The slow RP progress with ground forces is so demoralizing. I get less than 2k rp on a game with 12 kills in RB. That's like one kill in RB planes. I want to like the game so much, but I just can't do it. Playing the same tank for 50+ games just to unlock a mid tier tank is too much.
I-16 type 5: Awful compared to the biplanes. Anything it does the biplanes (generally) do as well or better.
You leave my waifu alone! You just can't appreciate her!
Legit?
I destroyed a cruiser with my KV-2 once. So yeah, legit.
So satisfying to have an enemy bomber kill their own ground units.
I destroyed a cruiser with my KV-2 once. So yeah, legit.
I think he was talking about the fact that ships now appear to have modules and damage zones
Today I downed an IL-28 when driving my Leo on sim. Good shiet.
I think he was talking about the fact that ships now appear to have modules and damage zones
I don't remember if the cruiser I shot showed any module damage, so probably.
Anyone got some thoughts on the T29? Thinking of buying it.
Anyone got some thoughts on the T29? Thinking of buying it.
OP as fuck. Go for it. If you want to be a total dickhead cover your weakspots(turret ring and mantlet) with bushes.
