diminishing returns out the wazoo
why though it's such a waste
Is there any tips for grinding lions a bit quicker, Ive just researched a Tiger(?) and I'm 200k off having just come back to the game after a loooooong hiatus.
why though it's such a waste
I never use them, so I figured I would activate them all at once instead of letting them rot away in storage. I have like 30 mil lions either way.

How are they going to set it's armor vaules if it's classified? :v:
At the rate this is going we'll have the Abrams and Leopard 2 soon.
How are they going to set it's armor vaules if it's classified? :v:
It was steel and it's an SPAA, so they could just copy-paste Gepard values where applicable. The only massive difference is if the sides/housing are like 50mm instead of 30-40mm so that the VADS and Shilka can't pen it frontally. If anyone says it's wrong, Gaijin can just go "where are the proofs?"

They aren't even pretending anymore. How in the world does one rank even make sense when you have WWII stuff next to a God damn Gepard.
This is the issue when you break into Cold War - technological leapfrog leads to weird gaps like this. That said, it more or less is a Gepard straight out. War Thunder's trying to stick to technological limits rather than specific dates. No composite armor is a huge one for them, and no guided missiles (or breaking the sound barrier in level flight?)
with the dates the games currently at it would be real neato to have some alternate history bomber escort missions where if the defenders fail to shoot down all the bombers their airfield gets a nuke dropped on it. Defend Hiroshima etc [editline]16th February 2017[/editline] I mean fuck it would be real neato to have any objective based air missions in the normal rotation. "shoot enemy" gets kinda shit after the first 1000000 times
WT needs to basically copy Cliffs of Dover's multiplayer mission structures tbh, especially the "certain vehicles only spawn on these airfields, destroying them cuts off access to them" part
WT needs to basically copy Cliffs of Dover's multiplayer mission structures tbh, especially the "certain vehicles only spawn on these airfields, destroying them cuts off access to them" part
[del]Assuming it works the same way as IL-2 works because CloD is basically IL-2 then that's a 100% yes. IL-2's MP was good and great. Hell, I wish DCS would copy that structure.[/del] I just realized that's a bit more involved than IL-2, but still. If War Thunder copied even old IL-2 46's MP structure we would be golden. It gave everybody something to do. Even the bombers had a purpose. The Enduring Confrontation mode is so close to being that, but Gaijin literally cannot stop themselves from fucking things up so that mode has some serious flaws that really hold it back.
and when the researchers say that a tank has composite armor you just stop listening to them Brilliant xaxaxa
If by researcher, you mean Reddit or Wikipedia - lol. If by "researcher" you mean "MaiWaffentrager", you might want to replace "researcher" with "I peeped at a few Jap docs so I know everything :smug: please oh god pay attention to me, Japan is supreme." Once Gaijin thinks that they no longer have a use for Mai, she'll be dropped like a sack of bricks and I'm pretty sure she knows it too. Given her posting history, sometimes I'd actually wager she has no access to Japan's archives at all and is just a dedicated fan - who is also good at scouring public documents and has somehow cheesed their way in. Her words, when unsourced, carry as much weight as a wet hampster fart. No one in their right mind would waste composite materials on an SPAA meant to resist small arms and not much else. Armor is cost, weight, range - and a host of other expenses not suited for an SPAA. Stop and think for a second that you're an tank engineer in the 80s. Composite armor is available, but expensive and only marginally increases the the performance multiplicative against chemical penetrators (HEAT). If your off-the-stamping-press RPG-7 already has like 260-500mm+ penetration vs. RHA, why the fuck are you wasting composite materials on an anti-air gun meant to be behind your armor in the first place? Just slab it with enough steel to resist a heavy MG and call it a day. The only reason I see some people jumping to this conclusion beyond "Mai said so" and confusing the Type 74 and Type 90, is that it looks boxy and boxy must mean "a big slab of composites like the Abrams??" Finally, "based on the Type 74" chassis means relatively little as the Gepard is "based on" the Leopard I. It's also based on the Type 74, which is already represented in game and has no composite materials. But no, Gaijin is just a silly, dumb company. :downs: [sp]And if you asked me two years ago if I'd ever bother to defend them, I'd tell you to fuck off. :v[/sp] None of that rant is direct @ you either, scout1. Four years of Gaijin's """"community""""" will wear you thin.

Well, butter my biscuit, Mai provided a proof there was composite armor. [t]https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-38qTs45FgtU/WKYjh4jA6DI/AAAAAAAABDQ/oT437ORKWJ0ZrjD8Uva1oiaCfPMuts85ACLcB/s320/.1.jpg[/t] The loose Google translations, which Mei doesn't provide both for A & B, I think, say Composite Armor. And here in we have the fun of defining composite armor. What you're seeing is RHA, bobbles, (RHA or Aluminum 4050A). Not fancy Chobham, not magical Nippon alloys - but what Mai lists just as "NERA" without going further into and what visually looks a lot more like a mixture of liners and structures to break up a HEAT projectile. It's a little silly that she goes on to heavily infer (and outright say on Reddit) that superior Japanese thinking here is copying dirty gaijin Abrams Chobham and Leopard 2 design. Unfortunately, going deeper down the rabbit hole, "NERA" can be used to reference everything from non-RHA materials and special geometric structures, right down to slappin' an old fence or generic "spaced" armor. And while there's a precedent here that the internals would be hard to model if it's a mesh or layer of rods, we already have some """NERA""" in-game. [t]http://i.imgur.com/Avegttk.jpg[/t] Granted, it's incorrectly modeled as the Leopard 1A1A1A1's spaced armor "consists of 20mm steel plates, two face fiber reinforced rubber coated, separated a small distance from the basic armour and mounted on shock absorbers" whereas in-game it's just bog-standard RHA. How effective it is, I don't know because I'm not often firing HEAT at Leopard 1A1A1s and I haven't driven mine yet. Spaced armor is extremely effective against HESH in-game though, and although a 33mm plate and some bobbles aren't stopping an L7's HESH, the internal backer plate might just stop it all together after the first two. So congrats on that, Japan. So, in conclusion: Is it technically "composite armor" [t]https://facepunch.com/fp/ratings/tick.png[/t] Is it possible to model in-game with just RHA [t]https://facepunch.com/fp/ratings/tick.png[/t] Is this a precedent for more complex composite armor or the T-64 [t]https://facepunch.com/fp/ratings/cross.png[/t] Is it likely this armor layout was capable of resisting HEAT projectiles in Era V [t]https://facepunch.com/fp/ratings/cross.png[/t] Is it even remotely similar to Soviet MBT composites, Chobham, or modern tank composites [t]https://facepunch.com/fp/ratings/cross.png[/t][t]https://facepunch.com/fp/ratings/cross.png[/t][t]https://facepunch.com/fp/ratings/cross.png[/t] Does Gaijin unfortunately treat end-game HEAT penetrators as unstoppable death lasers often unaffacted by spaced armor [t]https://facepunch.com/fp/ratings/tick.png[/t] Was Mai unfortuantely correct [t]https://facepunch.com/fp/ratings/tick.png[/t][t]https://facepunch.com/fp/ratings/tick.png[/t][t]https://facepunch.com/fp/ratings/tick.png[/t] Will Gaijin likely not give a shit and just keep it as RHA or a few RHA layers (ala Jumbo) [t]https://facepunch.com/fp/ratings/tick.png[/t][t]https://facepunch.com/fp/ratings/tick.png[/t][t]https://facepunch.com/fp/ratings/tick.png[/t][t]https://facepunch.com/fp/ratings/tick.png[/t][t]https://facepunch.com/fp/ratings/tick.png[/t] Merkava Armor, for comparison. T-64 Armor, for comparison.
Might reduce the effect of HESH, but that is too limited to be stopping higher calibre hesh rounds altogether.
Yeah, but in-game sake a 10mm track-link will stop HESH sometimes. And I tested an AI 1A1A1A1 versus L7 HESH earlier. Blocked a few shots, but some other shots had fragments find their way down into the roof armor and detonate the ammo, and fewer still just ignored it and YOLO'd right into the turret. v:v:v

Gaijin knows all of this, and more or less, it's why I think she'll be dropped once they're "done enough" with the Japanese tank tree. I can't understate how important it is that she's digging into the notoriously hush-hush Japanese archives in bits and pieces, but that's where the usefulness often ends and gets lost in statements like "The APC carrying MAT ATGMs is definitely 8.0 material, very competitive" on a giant unarmored shit barge firing SS.10-esq MCLOS 80m/s rockets.

Jap equipment, vehicles specifically have never been really that good, I work with the JGSDF and JMSDF so I have field experience in that aspect but some of the shit she saids is down right awful. Even worse some people even seem to kinda worship her in a way.
