That's Demetrius, he's a scientist or something to that effect. I went with bats, if you leave it for a while it comes up with lots of forageables, even out of season ones.
Fortunately my first winter is almost over so I can go back to crops, but with a better strategy, lots of sprinklers in 9x9 blocks. Should save me a lot of work and energy. I can also make it a point to get a good corn crop up first day of summer
I chose mushrooms because I've never seen them anywhere.
As far as sprinklers go, how exactly do they work? The wiki says they water the 'adjacent 4 blocks' which leads me to believe directly above, below, and to the sides. But I keep seeing people putting 8 plants around them in a ring. Does it water all 8 blocks around it, including the diagonals, or no?

Oh, and cows, from what I've read blueberries are the best thing to do in the summer. Apparently they can make you 880-1200 gold per plant during the season.

The basic one waters one tile to the left, right, up, and down.

I spent my day gathering materials and such to sell to get 2150g to buy 2 more pieces of copper ore that I needed and then upgrade my watering can.
Get the copper ore, smelt it, run back to the blacksmith with 2000g and 5 bars

There's a good chance that's a legendary fish. (Look at the icon. Legendary fish have an icon that looks like an angler fish rather than the standard one.) I'm at level 7 fishing with an iridium rod and a trap bobber and I still can't catch two of the three I've encountered.

Sometimes random items drop of the train while it is passing by.
You use the train for insurance fraud.

Personally I went with miner because ore nodes are a lot more common than gem nodes. once you get to the lower reaches of the mine you'll find quite a bit of gold nodes so you can make a lot of money that way.

Honestly probably +1 ore. It's a guarantee, vs a "chance"
Then again the "chance" might be worth more depending on the gem
It'd require a lot of testing to see which is on average more profitable.
I took geologist because You find a lot of ores already. It was more of a quantity choice than a monetary one tho.
