Is this game controlled via mouse only? Seems like it would be fun to play on my laptop but touchpad would ruin it.

WASD for movement and mouse for using tools and interacting.
One thing I ended up trying before that post was editing my save file to lower my combat level to 4 from 5, which is the skill I was wanting to respec since I realized my base crit rate wasn't high enough to make the 50% boost very noticeable. After a few days of doing a lot of mines I wasn't seeing any levels come in, but suddenly one day my level shot up from 4 to 8, which luckily allowed me to re-pick my level 5 profession. I guess the sudden boost from 4 to 8 has something to do with my level being decreased, but my overall experience points remaining the same? I'm not sure, but I'm grateful it ended up working out in the end.
Though it'd still be much easier to have an official system, or a mod.
Apparently you can at least edit your save file too.
Search for professions in your save file. These numbers correspond to the professions:
0 - rancher
1 - tiller
6 - fisher
7 - trapper
12 - forester
13 - forager
18 - miner
19 - geologist
While I haven't tested it (still combat lv 4), I think the other two are
24 - fighter
25 - scout
So to go from trapping to fishing, change the 7 to a 6, save, and bam.
You can use a controller though if you have one.

I play this game on my 55-inch TV with a DS4.
Call me weird, but that way it reminds me of Harvest Moon the most. It works pretty well, though moving the cursor with the joysticks is a bit shit. I can use the DS4s touchpad like it was a laptops trackpad, so it helps a little.

Yes.
Welp, got past the first earthquake, will rocks stop spawning randomly past a certain time or what?
SUMMER HIT AND ALL OF MY POTATOES FUCKING DIED

All the earthquake does is clear the path to the trainyard and Spa, rocks and weeds always spawn at the start of a new season. They'll never spawn on objects or pathways however (last patch fixed stone fences spawning debris that could wreck your shit)
So you mean that the rock that just appeared out of nowhere in the middle of my crops was.....?
What crop? There are no crops that can survive from spring to summer as far as I know
No I mean I planted new ones and a rock just magically appeared on one of them

It sucks but that was usually the case with any crops that are season specific, not sure if the developer will have multi-seasonal crops in the future or not.
corn????????????????
I didn't plant corn yet, so I wouldn't know if it is multi-seasonal or not.

Existing crops really shouldn't just die once the seasons change, that was such a huge set back (and it also felt a bit lame) :v:

I think crops should last one or two days into the next season before dying imo
I've had it happen so many times where the plant is just a day or two away from being ready for harvest, but they die the second the next season hits. I lost 15 melon plants cause I miscalculated how much time I had until the next season :(

The game gives you plenty of warning of it it though. A book in the library (I think the first one) mentions it, Lewis mentions it if you talk to him in late spring, and I think a Livin' off the Land segment also mentions it.
If you're not prepared by the end of the season then you've really got no one to blame but yourself.

The game could be a bit more lenient about it, it's not like I planted fresh crops one day earlier, these crops only had like a day or two left, they shouldn't just die, also I couldn't be bothered to constantly check the calendar back at the town seeing as it was just annoying, I know there's a mod for it now to open it from the UI but that's a pretty huge oversight.
I mean loopoo said the same exact thing, that's how I would've handled this personally anyway :v:
This isn't some kind of hardcore game or whatever, it's already tedious enough as it is.
In my opinion, crops dying at the end of season is fairly self-explanatory and if it happens it's your own fault really.
Rune Factory 4 does have a slowing factor if you're growing crops out of season , and seasons where they die outright - but then again Rune Factory is one hell of a game.
You have to think that by the end of a Stardew valley season, the next weather is slowly settling in. From Spring to Summer, it is slowly getting much warmer, and from Summer to fall, slowly getting colder. I agree that Spring to Summer is a weird season to have crops die outright, but I can agree with summer-fall and fall-winter.
Complaining about the punishment for not planning ahead in a game that pretty much requires planning ahead for everything.
Really though, the game gives you all the information you need to make good decisions. You see the days needed for the plant to grow when you buy the seed, theres a calender right next to the place you buy seeds and as previously stated, multiple sources warn you about the demise of plants left when the season changes.
Having your crops die on you is easily avoidable. If it happens, think of it as a learning experience and make better plans for next time.
Also, making the game easier from the start, wether it be by slowing down time, upping running speed or whatever else people are complaining about, seems really unnecessary to me.
The game gives you unlimited time to complete your tasks, and your ability to complete the tasks only increase with time.
If you fail at something once, keep at it until you succeed. It's not like you only get one shot to do it.
I didn't install a running speed mod to make the game easier, I installed it to make the game funner.

That's why you got to plan your planting.

Not to mention all Harvest Moons do this.

This was back before I knew the growth timer starts the day after you plant them. So I had 12 days left til Summer, so I planted a bunch of Cauliflower, figuring it was 12 days and I'd be able to harvest. I got fucked and lost a lot of stuff.
I know this isn't meant to be a farming simulator (in terms of it being super accurate and all that shit), but really, if a crop is 80% developed and it stretches over a few days into the next season, I really don't see how it makes sense to outright kill them off. At least give the option to harvest early, so we don't lose 100% of our work (I'd be happy with a reduced yield, or lower quality harvest, or it being cheaper to sell).

How do I stop the god damn dog from barking? It's become really annoying. I wish I never got a pet, they do nothing to help with the farm and are just loud and pointless.
I WANT TO BUY SOME ANIMALS LADY

(she's been there for 8 in-game hours)
Getting married takes a crap load of work. Other than about a week or so at the start of the game I've been giving Abigail two amethysts/pufferfish (and later pumpkins, all of which are some of her favorite items) per week every week, talking to her every single day, and doing any quests that popped up for her (a whopping two in total) and it took until the middle of autumn to finally get her to ten hearts. (Coincidentally this was on her birthday and was also only the second time she had a request on the bulletin board.)

It took me like three weeks to finally catch her at the counter when I wanted to buy some chickens. For a store that's supposed to be opened most days of the week for at least 8 or so hours per day it sure is completely unattended quite often.
