We're pretty much at the end of SS13's lifespan. At the start, pretty much nobody knew how to do medicine, or chemistry, or xenoarchaeology, or even how to cook, because a lot of useful information was kept secret by players who wanted to have a leg up over the others. Then, when SS13's code went open source and hordes of dedicated spaders and testers started coming out of the woodwork, useful metaknowledge became widespread through wikis. Pretty much everyone knew how to make a stunprod, treat a xeno embryo, make a basic grenade, and go exploring in space, and it's all thanks to the wikis. Now, wikis are so commonly used and the current fanbase is so lazy that nobody bothers to remember stuff from the wiki. If they need it at all, they'll just take a few minutes to look it up. It's not like they care that you're dying as they thumb through the Guide to Surgery and forget to read those niggly little "Use HELP intent you moron" prompts. Currently, Lifeweb is at the first stage. Did you know that, as a Post-Christian, you can go to the church and flagellate yourself for a special moodlet that makes you immune to Thanati magic (this includes the coin that lets them explode your head from across the map)? Did you know you can make yourself much less likely to get pain-stunned by holding your breath? Unless you're either a veteran player or you've got one of those handy-dandy metasheets (which will, incidentally, make the veteran players super butthurt if you tell them you have it), most relatively new players won't know that. Finding all the hidden shit Randy put in is one of the big reasons people enjoy Lifeweb so far, and I'm worried that once they figure out everything in all its ramshackle glory, they'll get bored and leave -- just like what happened with a lot of the people who made it to the second phase I described earlier.
I recently found out you can command slimes. Been having a lot of fun with that.
here's to it not dying (knock on wood)
SS3 is my only exception when it comes to hating clones, I want a clone to actually get done so I have something to go to when Byond eventually and inevitably dies.
I recently found out you can command slimes. Been having a lot of fun with that.
Which server is this on?
Which server is this on?
Any server based on /tg/
It's definitely more than just seemingly. I've noticed that players have been getting less robust since (approximately) around the start of Yog and Rocketstation. It was just a few years ago that the word "powergame" was unheard of and if someone was going around blowing shit up with all superpowers, an assistant would prevail and find a way to robust him. I haven't seen that happen for god knows how long.
and this is why I play on goonstation
Could be internet connectivity related, perhaps?
I can connect if I connect via IP, or if I use "Replay last game". If I try connecting from the server list, I get slapped with "Connection Closed".
I think there are still a few things that most people dont know, like how to be a really robust RD among some other things. Usually when I see people playing RD they are doing it inefficiently.

So where the hell do I find a Lifeweb server, anyways? People on reddit seem to be asking the same thing. Are they usually this difficult to find?

This might be the link to the only one that could be up during the week, idk, this computer doesn't like BYOND, so I'm typing it from memory, and I never play on it, so I dunno if it's actually up..
Yeah I just did a little research and stumbled upon a 4chan thread about it, seems it only runs friday-saturday-sunday
All of them are up only on weekends. One of the servers is permenantly on great migration too
Which server is this on?
TG servers. I had like 12 slimes following me and a dude smacked me with a toolbox. Was fun watching him die.
TG servers. I had like 12 slimes following me and a dude smacked me with a toolbox. Was fun watching him die.
Did they add commands other than "HELLO", "STOP", and "FOLLOW" yet?
A friend of mine is hosting an SS13 server and streaming it right now, kinda waiting for him to get stream sniped. http://www.twitch.tv/russ_money
Ooh cool! I love the late-night crew with Cry and Russ.
Ooh cool! I love the late-night crew with Cry and Russ.
I was actually on two of the streams a few months ago actually, Played Jackbox Partypack and Smash with them. I got destroyed in smash.
I'm pretty new to this, is tg/station any good
have i ever told you guys about the time a friend and i got absurdly fat and attempted to destroy security with nothing but flab punches and tactical welding
remember when being fat would actually give you a unique sprite
remember when being fat would actually give you a unique sprite
vg code still has this
I'm pretty new to this, is tg/station any good
Back in 2013, yeah. Now, not so much. Fun removal police decided to change a lot of things, and the playerbase became worse. The loss of fat sprites years ago was a tragedy. They claimed it was due to spriting jumpsuits, but they could have solved that by just making you too fat for any clothing.
Should just stretch the widt of the sprite a bit and there u go sloppy fat
so ive been absent from this for a while, been hearing /tg/ is meant to be shit and i do remember it being pretty bad last time i played, so whats the best server to use now? never been that big on gibbed but i guess i can play that if necessary [editline]11th February 2016[/editline] and ive been banned from yogstation since like day #1 i think

I enjoy it, but it has some clear issues. Hippiestation suffers from most of the same problems as /tg/station, but it's still worth trying out. There's a number of offshoots of Baystation, but they, being Baystation, are generally too strict and RP-heavy to be fun. Hatestation/Pizzastation are plagued by staggeringly incompetent mods and ludicrously bad coding decisions. I wouldn't recommend checking it out for the time being. Lifeweb is somewhat fun, but it has a lot of meme-spewing special snowflakes and most of the mechanics are needlessly obtuse. Other than that, I can't tell you much about the other SS13 servers. I'd recommend checking out each one and seeing whether you like them or not.
Check out Goon while you're at it.

Never knew /vg/ was still on the go, I used to like their codebase but the playercount was always really bad i recall
For what it's worth, the shittiness of hippie (and possibly tg) depends on the time of day and the pop. 10-30 is a pretty calm round, 30-50 is hectic but there's minimal shitlery. Anything above that and things can blow the fuck up fast.
