[t]http://i.imgur.com/fe7IABZ.png[/t] Trouble back under the sea. The question was: [sp]What happens to the crew of a sub that falls too deep?[/sp] [sp]The answer? Barotrauma![/sp]
I was playing sec and someone was being chased by a guy with a c-saber. I managed to stun him and took him to the roboticist to be borged. Turns out he wasn't a traitor and complained to the admins, who said that maybe I should've interrogated him first, but I was in the right since grey shirts aren't supposed to have c-sabers anyways
I watched a lot of Plump's videos, and I'd really like to get into SS13. But it doesn't appear very newbie-friendly. Are there any servers that are? (Basically places I can familiarize myself with controlling my character and other such basics, asking for help when necessary, without getting banned 'cause of it.)

Hippie's pretty friendly, all things considered, though you're as likely to learn something in any given round as you are to spend the whole round flying around as a ghost because someone robusted you.
No server is going to ban you for asking for help.
I dunno about that, some questions while innocent can ruin a round if asked in OOC and depending on the server, that could get you banned. "Why is this guy stabbing me with a lightsaber?" "Why is the AI killing me?" "It says i'm a blob, what do i do?" ect But yeah, try hippie and use mentorhelp for your questions.
Is Goon any good these days? I remember it being pretty fun, with arguably the best code and least lag of all the servers, but the administration and community being pretty shit.
Is Goon any good these days? I remember it being pretty fun, with arguably the best code and least lag of all the servers, but the administration and community being pretty shit.
I'm a longtime Goonstation coder so be free to take this with a grain of salt, but I felt like getting my opinion out there - I think we're a lot more reasonable than we used to be. These days you'll only risk getting kicked or banned as a nontraitor if you shit up the server and ruin everyone's fun. We unban players far more often than we used to back then, too. The salty anti-goon sentiment that popped up back when the servers used to be pretty much always on top of the hub seems to still be around. Like the players who kick and scream about how it's the "tumblr server" because they shouted racial slurs into the radio on their third or fourth ever round in 2012. Personally I think it's part of the reason why some parts of the SS13 community seem to completely demonize it despite having not even played a single game - because that's what they were told. Of course, the server isn't for everyone. Goonstation and all the servers with code derived from /tg/station have branched pretty far apart over the years, and so have their communities. It's not a big deal if you can't or couldn't get into it. Finding out that someone doesn't like the pizza topping you like isn't anything to throw a fit over.
I think it was one of Goon's last patches. they got a new coder and have been pumping out updates

I started playing Goon like 2 years ago, and swirlies have always been a time-honored tradition. It's not recent on Goon.
I'm pretty sure the code was in the original Devstation, too.
It's actually surprisingly easy to completely derail a round by opening up clown positions as HoP and slowly closing all the others. [t]http://i.imgur.com/swDXdqx.png[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/xroqPud.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/8h9bMtq.png[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/aPrE3Yv.png[/t] It started off with me ordering a couple of clown suits from cargo and wearing the mask and handing out the rest alongside a bit of extra access. Then it devolved into the clownsquad. We got a bunch of clowns to sacrifice Ian in the bar and the bartender almost got lynched for shooting at us. Then, one of the clowns had been brigged so I got every clown to try and get him out. Once we got there, there was a single officer in the cell who immediately got rushed down by about six or seven clowns. The geneticist had been handing out powers like candy, so we had a hulk clown rush in and smash down some walls and taking some taser shots for the rest of us while we freed all the prisioners and gave them clown suits. Using this opportunity, some more clowns managed to raid the armoury and delivered the tasers to cargo along with the rest of the clown gear. The captain, who I assume is somewhat new to the game, was trying to get the AI to lynch the clowns. None of us were happy with this so, after managing infiltrate the bridge to steal the Freeform law board and barely managing to escape with it, I don my mask again, get a clown hulk I found outside my office to break in again and try and subvert the AI for our own cause. We break in, I open the door to the captain's office(which had been broken into) and more clowns swarm into the bridge. The captain immediately ran away and we quickly outrobusted any security in our way. With the station under clown command, we called the shuttle because shit was fucked and the round ended with me dressing up somebody trying to recall the shuttle as a mime and trying to hang and burn him in the shuttle. honk

One day I'm going to alternate clown and mime slots till we get some kind of turf war going on... or god help us, an alliance.
I haven't played SS13 in ages, both rounds that i've played ended with people harrassing me for no reason while all i did was walk around and do things [editline]13th July 2016[/editline] Why are people so obsessed by just randomly approaching someone with a baton, knocking them down and stealing their ID [editline]13th July 2016[/editline] As a non-antag mind you
Dont let yourself get in that position.

What server was this in?
Why just the central where everything goes to shit at almost all times Hippie Station :v
Yeah, well, no big surprise there.
It's the only server i feel like i could go about doing my own thing though without being massively yelled at But in return it always ends in shitty ways
Where any interaction with the general populace has a 50 or more percent chance to result in your death. Only the best.
Building disposals is fun.
It's the only server i feel like i could go about doing my own thing though without being massively yelled at But in return it always ends in shitty ways
There's also goon though. Unless you blow up half the station as non-antag nobody's gonna bat an eye.
There's also goon though. Good is like hippie but there are less powergamers but shenanigans require a lot more effort for what takes 30 seconds on Hippie.

CMO on hippie just brought me a dude in a straight jacket for assaulting some dude. So I get the store, do my bit, decide to give him a lax sentence. Even take off the straight jacket. Dude acts like an idiot, spouting memes, attacking walls, and resisting arrest. So I put him in the insanity ward for a normal sentence (with no chance for escape) to cool off while i go get some food for the superfart I'd commited earlier. Apparently this is sacrilege to Calibraptor and means that I have to be permanently jobbanned and then forced to watch as an admin takes me and releases the dude (minus time served of course) then forces my suicide. Literally 10/10 admin. [editline]14th July 2016[/editline] Ima go back to vg. You gotta fix your serb, lawligagger.
Why the hell is it so hard to get a hairstyle in goon I just want something curly damnit [editline]15th July 2016[/editline] Holy shit i jump in and everything is so smooth and responsive, WHAT IS THIS [editline]15th July 2016[/editline] Everything still looks confusing as hell
It's fun to be called a retard just because i wanted to try out detective and didn't respond to everything with 100% knowledge I remember why i didn't play for a long time
Fuck them. Dont tend to their needs when they call for help next time. Detective on servers like hippie is most of time just a super cosmetic sec officer as too much happens too quickly for forensics to be practical.
It's fun to be called a retard just because i wanted to try out detective and didn't respond to everything with 100% knowledge I remember why i didn't play for a long time
Pull out revolver and shoot them in the face misclick sorry
It'd be nicer if i could actually make something out of the way combat works
What do you mean?
Mostly just that all the moving and the minimal lag makes it hard for me to get a good hit in Especially if it comes to me and a .38 revolver and i gotta fiddle about to reload the thing [editline]15th July 2016[/editline] I'm all for gun handling realism but for SS13 it tends to be clunky
