it was an idea that was tested and trialed instead of left to theorycrafting
Protip: Don't update to the beta version of BYOND. Stay on the stable version.
You won't be able to interact with anything that's prone. At all.

This includes all mobs, dead or alive.

Uh, what? We've been using the latest version of BYOND at tg, and we don't have this problem at all.

On second thought I just realized I'm two beta versions behind
Checking the patch notes, they fixed this in Build 511.1362:
Regression: Transformed object bounds had some calculation errors, which resulted in mouse hits failing and in some cases could lead to objects being culled from the screen inappropriately. (Somepotato)
I may have fucked up.
I tried to set up the Singlo and Super Matter according to the guides, but I must have missed a step. Before long Lord Singluth was too hungry, broke free and ate half the station, then I Decided to set up the SM to provide power, needless to say the Super Matter spewed plasma and caught on fire, causing it to explode what was left of engineering.
I may also be responsible for flooding the station with deadly plasma as well.
Pls don't tell on me

Sounds like you either forgot to turn on an emitter, turned on a shield generator and took too long to turn on an emitter, or forgot to set the particle accelerator back to 0 after Singuloth was satisfied.

Wow. Just did a xeno raid on colmarines and we got wiped the fuck out by 4 basic water/potassium nades strapped to a few allah ackbar marines.
No admins to stop that sort of shit too. Just boom, 15 xenos dead.

why the fuck would an admin stop your scrub clumping alien asses from getting rekt
why the fuck would an admin stop your scrub clumping alien asses from getting rekt
Colon marines is the sort of server where you're only allowed to have fun their way.
You'll get banned for not wearing the right uniform or wrong shoes or whatever.
There was a dude who got banned for griefing because he was able to swirlie the alien queen to death.
They also have things like medics can't do surgery at all, (really, some of the basic surgery would be easy as fuck) marines can't use the heavy weapons guys guns (really, a marksman rifle is too complex?), police can't take a gun as a just in case against armed marines and God forbid the techs on the ship take up a project to try to improve the ship, as they have literally nothing to do after the engine is up.
It might as well be Marines vs. Xenos deathmatch and not even have roleplay.

Oh I'm sorry but have you ever been a xeno on a sulaco raid
Being sent up in a cramped tin can is bad enough, it used to be that you could place sentries and walls in the hangar bay before they took that shit out
I was more flustered at the fact some asshat started the round with one sole purpose in mind : nuking the xenos when they get aboard. It took him all round to set that shindig up with the grenades.
Credit where it's due, it worked out and we all died in one swoop but it was seriously not fun to be on the recieving end
It might as well be Marines vs. Xenos deathmatch and not even have roleplay.
with concurrent heads and sec vs marines deathmatch on the ship when the imminent mutiny starts at some point. (and then xenos win)
edit: throw the russians or pissed off pmcs in there and it's basically a four way deathmatch gamemode
They also have things like medics can't do surgery at all, (really, some of the basic surgery would be easy as fuck)
The easiest surgery you can do besides an amputation is bone fracture surgery, and I really don't think that is "easy as fuck." Clicking with a scalpel and hemostat and having the game do it for you makes it look easy, but I can only imagine that such a procedure takes years of training to master.
The CM are actually considering letting medics do surgery though, after cloning is removed.
marines can't use the heavy weapons guys guns (really, a marksman rifle is too complex?)
They have a good reason for this. You are not wrong in saying that the specialist weapons can be managed by rookies, because Private Vasquez uses a smartgun in the movies despite being the rank she is. However, there is a limit to how many specialist guns can be on the field because of how powerful they are. To get a specialist gun, you have to roll as a specialist. There are only 4 specialists each round, making it a somewhat rare and exciting occurrence to roll as a specialist. Now imagine that you are on the field, you get knocked down by an alien and drop your gun... then a rookie swoops in and steals your specialist weapon and runs off into the distance.
Because specialist guns are as deadly as they are fun to use, there were many cases of non-specialists looming over the squad specialists in order to steal their gun when they are downed. When confronted by admins, the classic excuse was to say "welp the specialist was going to die so might as well save their weapon!" This led to shitty situations where non-specialists would leave specialists to die just so they can secure their weapon. While the rule that was put into place afterwards is not necessarily lore-friendly, it safeguards a specialist from getting their round ruined and gives no reason for non-specialists to steal specialist guns.
police can't take a gun as a just in case against armed marines
Yeah fuck this rule. It's stupid.
and God forbid the techs on the ship take up a project to try to improve the ship, as they have literally nothing to do after the engine is up.
You certainly can improve the ship, but it has to be within reason. Building a space fort outside of the ship is not allowed because it is a waste of resources as there is no practical reason for marines or xenos to go out into space to fight. You also can't build defenses on the ship BEFORE the aliens take control of the dropship/droppod because otherwise aliens will always land into a perfectly-fortified Sulaco with no way to attack up the ladders.
Things you can do after setting up engine:
Hack all the vendors
Repair and improve the dropship or droppod
Go down to the planet (with permission) and make defenses there
Build things like autolathes and cloners in the medbay
Be a janitor
I only wrote this long ass response to show that not all CM rules are draconian bullshit rules made to make your experience hell. MOST of them have reason and were established to make the game more fun for everyone involved.
If you have never tried CM before and are put off by reading the supposed bullshit rules, please come and give it a try! I used to think CM was a baystation shitshow that was all roleplay and no fun because of how much people shit on its rules, but this is really not the case. Come, play, and if you break a rule that you didn't know was there, the admins are actually lenient as long as you stop what you were doing.
Assistant took my belt on hippie, so I took her bat
She tries to get it back from me so I pull her out of cloning and pull out all of her teeth
I did this because if I recall she did this to another assistant for some other reason
She ghosts and tells me I'm salty in OOC after the round ends :(
[editline]3rd November 2016[/editline]
Next round the same assistant who became HoP and I hanged a shitler in her office
yes
If you consider closing wounds by suturing to be surgery its actually pretty easy if you have real tools to do it. As long as you arent doing advanced things like layered closure its more or less sewing two pieces of flesh together.

I do play it a little bit, but I just think that many of the things are frustrating, and a lot of many jobs is literally just going through the motions to please everyone. That's why I am infuriated by it. The maintenance jobs are a prime example, hacking machines, cleaning, building autolathes and such is all just going through motions for no real reason, no-one will ever appreciate it, with maybe the exception of cloners, which will be removed at some point anyway.
Yeah, orthopaedic surgery does take years to master, but if push came to shove and there are literally no docs, I think that medics should at least try, extreme circumstances should trump scope of practice! Even if they hardcoded them with a 20% fail chance for every step, and limited the types of surgery they could do, it would be better than none.
Players are shitters, but weapon theft could be a chance to actually let the MPs do their job, just ban if a player is persistently stealing specialist weapons.
The mods are very reasonable, but the game gets repetitive fast, as the rules enforce the same playstyle every game. Xeno can be more interesting for that reason, or WY rep to be as much of a bureaucratic shitter as possible.
I suppose my complaint at core is in many ways, they try to go for RP, but then remove a fair bit of RP options through rules. Medic decides to exceed scope of practice and fucks up? Docs and MPs get a chance to do something regarding him breaching his scope, or maybe say it was acceptable. Same goes for things like a one off gear theft, or MTs making unlicensed modifications to the engine.
