Feels really weird how Ubisoft has the best conference this year.
I mean, standalone Black-Flag style sailing game and the fact that Beyond Good & Evil 2 actually exists and is coming.
That's pretty hard to top.
No RE2 Remake and no FF7 was a big disappointment. Felt like Detroit: Antifa ate up a lot of time though.
I know I'm in the small minority, but I actually liked the Bethesda conference. Yeah, I know there wasn't many games, but they gave trailers back to back and unlike a bunch of stuff in other conferences, I know that I'll be able to play the new games I see before next year's E3.
And overcharge people who went to watch this shitshow in their local movie theater.
It was free in theaters I think.
Fucking hell Sony why are you making two Spiderman movies at once???

My problem with Bethesda is that they spent an obscenely long time promoting games that are already out. I don't mind a quick 1 minute spiel about all the success they've had this past year, but that was a good 1/3 of their conference.
People are gonna call it flaccid which is sad to me but the Spider-man trailer was the most exciting thing for me.
I've been dreaming of a good Spider-Man game for years, his veritable Arkham Asylum. It's finally coming.
There's a lot of QTE's in the trailer but that's frankly always the case in these kind of reveals. What's important was the other stuff they showed, like the more involved areas, the traps, the classic style webswinging that everyone's wanted to return, the better combat (It's a lot like Arkham but it has a lot more enviornmental stuff it seems), some fantastic characters that I loved liked Mr. Sinister, Miles Moralez, and the Kingpin.
Sony didn't drop any major bombshells (at least ones that went out of things that appeal to me), but they showed the most games that looked good imo. And with Spider-man they won me completely.
The problem is that while it's great for Spider-Man fans, those who aren't as embedded a fan to the series will see it as another game cashing off of the Arkham series' success. It looks alright to me, better than a lot of games the past decade for Spider-Man, but nothing amazing.
I think one of my big problems for this E3 is that everything that could've been a surprise besides Anthem or Beyond Good & Evil 2 was leaked right before E3 or leaked upwards to a month or so ago.
GUYS I FIGURED OUT WHY THIS YEAR IS SO BORING
WE RUINED IT
We asked for nothing but games, so they now only do trailer after trailer with minimum talking on stage.
But the presentation on stage is the best part! The fuck-ups, the memes, the chat frustrations, the build-ups...
Now we're just being fed advertisements after advertisements.
We made E3 worse.
This is our fault.
This is one of the worst e3s ive ever watched out of the years ive been doing this. Just about nothing notable happened whatsoever
It's weird to see people not understand the difference between a remaster and a remake. The SotC remaster was just porting the base game over and then upping the resolution and textures. This "new" one is a full blown remake, new textures, updated models, enhanced fps, enhanced particles, enhanced lighting, etc. etc.
So, Nintendo tomorrow is a 25 minute Direct, follow by some treehouse stuff, apparently they'll be showing new stuff during Treehouse as well.

No, it's boring because the games are underwhelming.
If Microsoft cut out some of their usual bs talking they usually do this year, I think they actually beat Sony personally.
Ubisoft had the best new announcements in my opinion. Mario x Rabbids, Skulls & Bones, BG&E2, that weird VR game that actually looks really interesting, and I'm a sucker for Far Cry, so FC5.

I really didn't care for Detroit and I really didn't care for Days Gone, but that's just me and they apparently really get some hype I guess.
Jesus, everyone is copying the Direct format

That's kinda why I said I get why it wasn't as exciting for people that weren't me.
I don't really see where it's cashing on Arkham's success though, mostly because that combat system has been used in way more games before this one. Most of Warner Brother's games since Arkham have used it, or some form of it.
This is more like seeing a modern day Spider-Man 2, which a lot of people consider the best Spider-Man game, except now it has Insomniac's touch.

I think overall it was a perfectly solid E3 so far, it's just in comparison to the last 2 years where Sony was dropping major announcement after major announcement that this seems mediocre.
Well this has been an good E3 year. I'm not expecting Nintendo to show something shocking tomorrow, and I hope they do prove me wrong, so if they DO show something there, I can definitely say it's not going to be on the E3 Floor, but will be in a future Nintendo Direct in more details.
I really didn't care for Detroit and I really didn't care for Days Gone
Days Gone could be interesting, and what they've shown so far isn't terrible, but it's just a bit boring imo. Maybe when I know more about the plot/world.
Why do anything
my point was that having a stage didn't really benefit sony at all. in fact i would say it hindered the conference when you consider all those times they would cut to shots of the audience or their stage to show off their lighting

I mean it was solid, but very very boring. At least in the past 5-6 years there have been notable moments that have been bad or funny with some big bombshell hype moments but everything this year was just so run-of-the-mill, expected, or already shown or even released. I'd say that Beyond Good and Evil was the only thing that stuck out to me.
In hindsight, has Square-Enix even shown anything besides DLC or VR this E3? Capcom got their cake with the Sony conference, and we know Konami's an unlikely candidate for mattering anymore, but still.
I don't know what the fuck is going on when Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is the highlight of E3 so far for me.
I'd probably be more excited if I was into VR, most of the unique and new games came in the VR blocks of the various conferences
My personal ranking for this:
Ubisoft > Microsoft > Power Gap > Everything else at basically the same level
Ubisoft revealed a ton of legitimately good looking games. Beyond Good & Evil 2 nearly gave me a god damn heart attack.
Microsoft knew how to market the X despite the ridiculous name, and they're successfully moving away from peddling exclusives which is a huge bonus for me. It knows that promoting a good and large catalog that runs well is a better idea. It also had zero mention of preorder bonuses, season passes or other such things, which I thought was genuinely refreshing.
Then there's the rest. Sony's revealing its games too early when everyone else has been pushing heaps of titles slated for a 2017 release, they also ended on a fairly flaccid note compared to most of the other conferences. Bethesda had some good announcements overshadowed by the paid mods which left me fairly indifferent but obviously caused a huge stir - and since they practically only had sequels and VR ports to show, they could have easily packed it all within Microsoft's conference. EA focused too much on sports titles and even with Sony's lackluster presentation they still managed to be the worst.
Another thing that was great about Microsoft's conference, no Skyrim. I get it, game's good and it sold, but E3's meant for new games. There's no need to peddle it this hard as some kind of novelty when everyone knows it's an old title that shouldn't get the spotlight this fucking much.

A boring E3 isn't really the same as a bad one. Like at least most of the games are okay or good, and besides Bethesda there wasn't a whole lot to just be aggravating. While straight up bad ones are funnier to watch I'd rather have decent things to play.
You know E3 just isn't the same without G4 and Gametrailers. Every year I get further away from E3 because it use to be so fun but now it's like, confusing where to watch, and when.
I still enjoy the spirit of E3 though, just not the same
It just felt like a very safe E3
I think theirs a serious lack of willingness to try new things right now in the game industry and it doesn't exactly know where to go next. But other than that its just sequels or its a new IP and it feels relatively familiar with mechanics that have been done before.
Is it like... natural law that a spiderman game has to have QTEs? Has there ever been a Spidey game without it?

It probably doesn't help that most of the really new stuff seems to be going straight for VR which is still a pretty small market
