Beyond Good & Evil 2 stands out so much because Ubisoft proclaimed they wouldn't show it at E3 a while ago only to do it anyway, and because of its near-legendary status it's achieved over the years due to desire for a sequel. But it's also iffy since it could be taking the classic in an entirely different direction than anyone imagined (or wanted).
Was there any other similar surprises besides Mario x Rabbids not looking like absolute shit?

I agree with that, I think I'd go back on calling it bad, but man was it boring.
It's true that it's sort of funny that we hated the presentation and theatrics of E3 so much in past years but tbh now that it's just a trailer reel I have to say I prefer the former. Grass is always greener I guess

But there was live music and stage presence.
Honestly Microsoft and Ubisoft felt more like they were genuinely a celebration of gaming in general whereas the rest felt like they were trying extra hard to peddle shit by holding games hostage as exclusives.

Bongo card post-Sony. Political space on the checklist was activated by Tropico 6. I also decided to just accept The Last Night as the 80s game.
I've updated the rules:
- Platinum prizes are double bongo+sins, OR triple bongo.
- Gold prizes are double bongo, or bongo+sins (basically everyone is qualified if you score a natural bongo).
- Silver and Bronze are still single bongo.
- If you complete all your sins (everyone should have by now) you can instead count those towards turning another space into a free space. Keep in mind, this will nullify your sins! So prizes may be locked out by doing this instead of waiting for Nintendo.

In the end, I think that the theatrics were what gave E3 it's character and this conference lacked that quite a bit. It was too sterile and too safe.

Yeah definitely. For me it's all very exciting because I have an HTC Vive, but it's definitely sort of a bummer to see some interesting games that most people have to go "oh i don't have VR"
Also the Skyrim VR trailer was on par with the Darwin Project trailer in terms of lessons on how not to sell a game.

Easy Allies is most of the gametrailers crew. I generally like seeing their reaction/recap of stuff. Their reactions to last years Sony showcase were particularly hilarious.
Despite being so close to games for so long they aren't super cynical about them like a fair number of the other big game channels (and most FPers apparently) and have an open mind to new games, but will still analyze and critique what they see, while still having personalities (unlike other channels).
This E3 really hasn't helped with the "I feel like I'm outgrowing games" thoughts I've been having over the last few months.

GTA V PC was revealed at the Sony show two years ago. I guess we can expect a trailer in the next few months at least.

I dunno, I found myself going through the Microsoft, Ubisoft and even Bethesda conferences excited like a kid on christmas because most of the games shown looked legitimately fun.
