I admit that I omitted that part. Like I said I don't condone a fuckin' thing they did. I don't think that the cult is justified in any way. While murder isn't their primary motive, I understand that is a big factor. I spent a lot of time listening to the cult's conversations, as I stealthed about I would hear them talk. Saying shit like, "These people would have killed us by now if the tables were turned." When they take hostages. Or the guys who pray when they think you aren't around. They sing the lyrics to the cult's songs. Sometimes they even share stories about how they joined the cult. Generally they say reasonable shit about how they know for a fact they are going too far, but they think that when all is said and done the people they take will thank them. I am in no way endorsing the cult, I just appreciate Ubisoft's attempts at making our enemies believable human beings. I still thoroughly enjoyed taking back Hope County from the Peggies. Hell, I bet the only reason I even gave them a chance by listening to them was the very first line spoken by a random Peggie was about how, the Marshal had killed a Cultist named Matthew. Which made me think "Oh shit, these people still have names." As well as how scared he was as he called for back-up. Then after he went on his patrol. POW! Branch into his skull.
Can we talk about the ending openly yet, I feel like wiping my eyes with all this unfocused text
It's barely been a week since the game came out, so obviously no.
Slowpokes
https://youtu.be/1P5HXsMUyuc Spoilers beware. Hugbox probably makes a better case than me when it comes to the story.
While I understand that being violent doesn't really solve much and generally only perpetuates a problem, that won't make me feel any better about the ending as it still just feels lazy and fucks over anything that we did, I don't care if we did go to Montana to stop this cult from kidnapping and torturing and other shit they were doing by attempting to solve the problem with violence, these people clearly weren't interested in talking and wanted their way and their way only, talking would get you nowhere and would only cause you to be dragged into their shit, violence was the ONLY way to deal with these people, whether it was you and your friends or the National Guard who came in to solve the problem, violence would've been the only way to solve what was going on. I highly doubt that the National Guard coming in and attempting the same shit, arresting Joseph, would've gone any better than when we tried it, the cult would've ran to defend Joseph and stop them from taking him away, getting violent and causing the shooting to start, would the Nukes have gone off though? I have no idea, because I don't even know why they fucking went off, the only time they do is when you attempt the 2nd arrest on Joseph, a bit that seems WAAAY too coincidental, especially given how they don't go off in the other ending. It's all a bit strange but not in a good way for me, you can try and pin the blame on us saying we were violent and caused all this shit and it's our fault, but, how else was this going to go down when we attempted an arrest but got fucked up when they wouldn't let us take him peacefully?
Which is a hilarious moral to constantly be preaching since it was the fucking cult who started the violence in the first place. The police were there to take Joseph away peacefully, it was the cult who immediately started murdering.
It's contradictory as fuck, we came in to try and stop them from being shit heads with the kidnapping and shit, but somehow we're the bad guys because we TRIED to stop that, fuck off. Honestly that's just bad story telling.
They didn't build those missile silos. "Their actions don't ramp up." That's a load of shit and you know it. Up until you arrived they we're harassing the County and randomly attacking people. After your botched arrest they start engaging in open warfare.
I think 4 did a much better job at the whole "maybe youre the baddie all along" than 5. When you make something as bad as the cult, theres really nothing else that feels as bad in the game. not to mention the whole bit where Joseph seed talks about murdering his newborn because the dude is fucking nutso. 4 looked bad, but then you realize the pegan regime was destined to fail, so it was going through it's death throws trying to restore order in any way possible. I thought nothing could be as bad as 3's ending but holy shit 5 was like a giant wet blanket that killed the mood entirely.
I almost feel like it would have been a better game with most of the story elements removed, and the family just being overworld encounters when you do enough damage to their operation instead of the weird kidnapping thing.
The kidnapping aspect of this game is the fucking worst addition to anything in the series, I'd seriously take Malaria than, oh hay, randomly get abducted no matter where you, no really, NO MATTER where you are.
^^^ignore this stuff^^^ I think the main issue with Far Cry in general is that the gameplay is so goofy. It's hard to take the villains seriously when I just hit a bear with a truck and saw it go flying across the road 5 minutes beforehand.
Like a lot of others, i've been having misgivings about the endings. Games where the bad guy wins should inherently be written in a way that gives an explanation on why you fucked up; why the bad guy is somehow correct, and overall handle the ending carefully to make it not only completely understandable to the player but also justified. A big example of this is Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines which came out for the PC in 2003. In that game it had multiple endings, dependent on what you chose, that could either in your character dying or a bad guy winning. At each and every turn there were hints, some spelled out directly in your face, on why going about things in a certain manner will completely fuck you over. Ignoring those leads to the aforementioned "Bad Endings". This game completely trashes the ability to do such a thing, or give the player a satisfying ending. Far Cry 5's endings doesn't really work all that well. To me; from observation from many twitch streamers, it always felt like the ending is hamfisted and goes completely out of the way and pigeonhole you in justifying how "right" Father Joseph was. Even when you meet him, the Prophet, at the church attempting to arrest him he mutters the words "Sometimes you should leave well enough alone." Which can prompt the secret ending that most either do for a joke, to get an achievement, simply just to see what the easter egg that everybody was talking about. And, what should be a recurring theme throughout the story that could've given some ambiguity on why the cult was doing what it was doing instead it was just an off-color comment. The most gut punch of it all is that the Secret Ending is, and should be, considered the "best" of the three endings that Far Cry 5 has. However it's something that comes off as shoddy work and a half-hearted mantra that somewhat justifies itself. From a purely gameplay point it's antithetical to just give the best ending for the most minimal input required, and the idea of it coming across as you doing nothing - namely stopping a literal, to the fucking point, Doomsday Cult from kidnapping, murdering, stealing, etc, from the people of Hope County - should be considered to be a broken pedestal. With nothing left people continue on into the Far Cry 5 story, igniting the match that "made" the powder keg explode. Here it's immediately phoned in that there's no signals getting in or out, the phone lines have been cut and all the bridges have been destroyed. You're isolated. The game then turns around at points trying to give various reasons on why you're "bad" compared to the Military-fanatic who makes kids eat their parents while confined, to the drug-inducing hippie who makes people climb a statue and fling themselves off to their death, to the most arguably "sane" man who mutilates people then rips off a chunk of their skin to nail to the wall and finally the leader of the fucked up literal family. Yet there's nothing. There's no ambiguity and no sympathetic role despite having to sit through all the painful monologuing on how Joseph Seed the Prophet is the son of god and how they're doing the right thing despite committing something that is the equivalent of an isolated genocide to those who don't follow them. All through it the player is pointed at and says how "bad" they are. All throughout this the game tries to imply the batshit cult is somehow right. It's tiring, both in an ingame level and outside of it. It's like trying to make Genghis Khan's conquests legitimate by saying some roundabout reasoning on why people needed to be culled. It doesn't work. It's confusing. It's problematic. And the worst of it all is that the endings are seen as rightfully fucking you in the ass because that's what they are; They're horrible endings. One ending is simply you leaving after going through all of it. It's completely idiotic to turn around and walk away yet "somehow" you avert WW3 by not arresting what seems to be an insane man who's led hundreds, if not thousands, to their death and fanaticism. Even then as you drive away you get activated, implying that you kill your allies and then join the cult which is another kick to the groin, pointedly while you're down. The "Good" ending where everything is bathed in Nuclear Holocaust is fucking insane. What would be interesting about being the catalyst for World War Three is instead taken away by how much of a "suprise" it is. Like a Rhino popping out of a stripper-iffic birthday cake ten sizes to small to it, which is to say fucking none. In this "Good" ending people are locked in a bunker by the miraculously unharmed Joseph Seed while being restrained, suffering through yet another rambling of how he's going to convert you with the implication that he actually does it. Seriously, what the fuck is this story? It's the most broken story that i've come across and feels like it's more out of a two bit horror/drama starring Nicholas Cage. There's few things connecting everything together about the upcoming WW3, and those that do somehow break the entire net by somehow breaking through a radio jammer to tell you how bad things are from outside the county. Far Cry 5 is an amazing game but it's storytelling, at least that in it's over-arcing storyline and main missions, shit the bed hard.
As far as first posts go, that's a good one I'd say.
I was actually gold back on Facepunch and then when my original email got fucked I couldn't retrieve it sound I ran around as Keyblockor1. Since Keyblockor1 didn't transfer i'm reclaiming my old name but for a year I used to float and lurk around. But yeah. Thank you, I really appreciate coming back to this community forum.
Said it better than I could.
Okay, who the fuck says that they weren't ramping things up before you got there? There's a guy who openly burned people alive and fed them to children years before the game starts who is an active enforcer of the cult
There's a couple of things about John and his region that make me feel like there was a huge rewrite and they wanted more of the game to not be just evangelical. The fact that John looks like Joseph without glasses and a different fashion sense and Johns the only one who has a religious approach to the situation like Joseph makes me feel like Joseph and John were the same character for a while before they decided to split them. Faith has too many supernatural elements going on and she doesn't talk about God but about Joseph instead, and Jacob has an actual logical (albeit still unhinged and irrational) approach to the situation, not using religion but Darwinism instead. The trailers and media (from what little I've seen so I could be wrong) mostly went with the religious aspect of the Seed family, even during it's reveal, we mostly ever see Falls End and the surrounding region in most of the trailers, and it makes Jacob and Faith feel like an afterthought in the overall theme and approach of the Seed family. What doesn't help is that each region has little to nothing to do with each other, apart from small vague comments like "Oh the deputy did some damage for us" Like you're not gonna tell them you killed one of the Seed family members? Like people said here earlier, it feels like each region was written by someone different with no communication between themselves about how the region is going.
So Im gathering that the story isnt great, which is a shame, but did you guys like anything about the game? Im pretty early on in Faith's region, and I like how Im periodically running into hallucinations of her with my car with no sound cues. Really gives that "did that just happen" feeling I also really like the creepy music that plays during combat
Pretty much everything else about the game including the seed family is enjoyable to great when it has nothing to do with the over arching plot. At least imo
Ever since starting with 3 Ive loved far cry for feeling like Im playing an 80s Arnold Schwarzenegger movie
The weapon selection sucks compared to the other games in the series. This game has like 1/4th the number of unique weapons as Far Cry 4 which is just pitiful.
Except in this game you don't just get the Bow, a Grenade Launcher, SMG and something else and NEVER switch them out, this time around you actually feel like you want to try the other guns out and use them properly, I do anyway, didn't care for many of the guns in Far Cry 4 because it was just like, Tier 1, 2, 3 and 4 or some shit.
I never felt that way at all. There are very clear tiers in this game. This game has a whole bunch of re-skinned guns that have the exact same stats as their regular counterpart. That's just lazy.
Actually there is a minor stat difference between the snub nose and the later ones, the snub nosed revolver's stats are just a bit worse. But the rest of the revolvers are identical to each other aside from appearance. I will say though that this is a rare instance where I've chosen to not take a bow with me when given the option. Like in virtually every game it has been an option, including previous Far Cry games, it is my go to weapon. This time around it was at first until I started to get in to other weapons before eventually being phased out completely. I do wish the slingshot could be put in the sidearm slot though.
Also seems to me that even with the ammo upgrades in this game you can't hold as much ammo as you could in Far Cry 4, but that's a minor gripe so w/e.
The more I think about it and look at it, I feel like the game must have been rebooted about halfway to 3/4 through its original development cycle, and they rushed to get what they had finished out to the market. The numerous guns with only cosmetic differences between them, disjointed and terrible story, things like that. The world, especially in the area of Fall's End, feels the most complete and there other two begin to feel more underdeveloped the further you and north you travel. I seriously think they finished the Fall's End area first for the purpose of demos and shows and such and most of that survived the reboot, but the rest of the areas had to be started over again largely. Hence why Jacob and Faith's stories are janky and disconnected, while John's feels like it was part of Joseph's before being broken off.
Wasn't the game delayed twice? Or was it only once?
I just wished the hunting rifle and the lever actions weren't waterguns by midgame. Wanted to be a county sheriff with basic weapons but nope, the lever requires 2-4 chest hits to kill one guy. The hunting rifle is worse, feels like youre just tapping them with nerf bullets.
