Far Cry 5 - Shoot Dirty Cultish Hipsters in Montana with guns and stuff

Seems like people are equating these characters not being complete mustache-twiddling supervillains with Ubisoft trying to make you not hate them. Which is pretty dumb.
I don't mind them giving us sob stories, but I wish there was some way for us to respond. I don't know if I want dialogue options or what, but I want to pronounce judgement on these fucks.
Well I mean, you kill them, I don't know what else you want.
The reason why polygon got shat on too hard was because they cried cus the game didn't represent the current political climate on the US.
And they cried cus the bliss infected "totally fails to recognize the horror of shooting american drugs addict while the US deals with Opioid crisis"
The also gave the game a really harsh 6.5 for really dumb reasons. Look, I know the story is a mess, but a 6.5 is still too much just because of the story, at least an 8.0 or 7.5. Polygon are the same who gave PUBG a 10 calling it "Imperfectly Perfect".
And if you're gonna criticize the story, just do that! you don't have to add real world politics to it just because its settled on the US.
Far Cry was never about serious political messages, hell the first game is about a dude fighting an evil Scientist who creates super mutants on a tropical Island!
Now:
Getting that out of the way and about the actual story, yeah, its fucking dumb as hell, my biggest gripe with it is that its all over the place, some quests are cheesy as fuck, like the Testy Festy, or the Tape quest with a Bono looking fucker. And you know what, if the whole game had that tone I would be fine.
But then the main plot takes itself way too seriously, and try to make the villains not look good all bad but fails miserably at it, like if you're gonna make them human at least don't make them cartoonishly evil. Wow that ending sucks
Overall, wish the main could take itself WAY less seriously, or if its gonna take itself seriously, at least do a good job on it.
Well thats overall my opinion on the plot of Far Cry 5, its just bad writing that can come out as. Well I honestly could not care less (except for the ending) cus for me most of the fun on a Far Cry game is on the gameplay, and my goodness this game is a lot of fun, I would recommend getting it on a sale thought. Cus it can get boring after a while, but its fun to come back time to time.
I think they didn't "cook" the characters well enough. They seem very one note, and half-baked. Also my argument was never they are written well. It's that they have a story to begin with, our villains need stories so that there's something to talk about. That's all I'm saying. The gameplay and the story are divorced, I agree. As much as I like Far Cry 2, I have to admit it can be agony to play at times. I've got like 50 hours in it but I don't think I want to play it ever again.
Far Cry 5 gives the player a lot of freedom. You can totally play it like a grounded run of the mill shooter. OR, you can go bananas and blow everything up, shooting everything you see, or throwing shovels at eagles. I don't think that's lazy, so much as it allows the player to play it in more ways than you could in Far Cry 2. I appreciate that for better or for worse.
I'd argue that the various notes and music hammers home why a lot of the people joined the cult though. It's mainly a monetary thing. With the banking crash of 2008 being a culprit of note. Many cultists almost look homeless and unkempt, I think this was a conscious choice to show that a lot of these people were on their last legs and likely had nothing to go back to. An army of people who have nothing to lose, and with today's current homeless population I can see how they could gather this many people across the states. The Cult started in Georgia and made it's way to Montana who knows what route they took across the 15 years worth of history. A lot of this story isn't spoon fed to the player, I like that. They didn't go very deep with the characterization based solely on the main missions. All you see is Yes Man, Psycho Soldier, Drug Princess, and Shirtless Preacher.

Faith just has no justification for how she's handled. Her sob story is fine, I don't mind that, but EVERYTHING ELSE about her is nonsense that takes Farcrys haluconegic shit straight into magic. It's not good.
The only region that feels 100% complete is John's. Something feels off about the other two.
Radio stuff. Spoilers ahead.

It annoys me how Nick got his own trailer/char intro alongside Jerome and May, but none of the other GFA do. Also exaggerates his important as a character since it makes him seem like a big figure in the Resistance.
I sure wasn't expecting anyone to give me nice feedback like this, thanks a bunch! I really appreciate it! And I'm glad you played it multiple times, too. Did you try all 3 routes?
You can put down several AI animation points, so the enemies do all kind of shit like jumping jacks or checking their equipment, looking around with binoculars and such. Didn't really do anything AI-related other than that, because I'm not sure how control zones work yet. I totally forgot about that window in the lower building and I was putting the finishing touches in the map at like 4am or 5am, gonna check everything again and realign the objects.
One problem I realised myself while playing is that I put way too many enemies in a way too small area. Depending on their random behavior and paths, they can group up so much that going stealthy is almost impossible. Gotta work on that in the future.
All things considered I'm really happy they also put the editor on the PS4, I love creating custom levels like this.
I don't know how Far Cry games go about continuity but does this ending mean the next Far Cry is going to be in a post-apocalyptic setting ?
I don't think there's any real continuity between Far Cry games but that would be fucking awesome for FC6.
there are no solid connections, but there are references.
Hurk hints at knowing the player characters from previous Far Cry games in some of his dialogue, so they definitely take place in chronological order. The events of each game are just too far apart geographically to affect each other.
Willis Huntley and Hurk have been in Far Cry 3, 4, and 5. Hurk was even in Far Cry Instincts' Artwork. Sharky and Adelaide are related to Hurk.Neither of them were present during the ending. Longinus in Far Cry 4, is likely Prosper Kouassi from Far Cry 2. The Jackal from Far Cry 2, is probably Jack Carver from Far Cry 1. Jason Brody, and Ajay Ghale have been referenced in Far Cry 5. At this point its solid to me that the games are connected in some way, and take place within the same universe. While it's not explicitly stated, the writers give the player enough information to infer that the games have connections. At this point it seems like the Far Cry Series will revolve around the Drubmans.
Also, the world may be small but it sounds like there are a lot of placesthat haven't been nuked. America, North Korea, and Russia seem to be the only nations that were hit with nukes.
Far Cry 6, set in London, yes mate.
Just found out you can apparently have a pet cougar in this game and have it help you during missions

Finally beat Faith's section. Wow that's just all sorts of nonsense that they don't even try to make sense
No problem, I didn't expect anybody else here to have it on and make maps for PS4, so I made sure to jump on it when you posted it.
I don't know if I tried all three routes, but I did try from the left and right. I guess the third way is down the middle, guns a blazing? I typically try to sneak, so I didn't try that; it seemed like it would just devolve into getting shot by everyone all at once as I left the water.
And you're right about them grouping up. This didn't happen the other times, but the time I finally beat it, 3 guys including the elite all took to standing on the tower overlooking the pier, the two batters kept pacing around it, and two guys went out into the bushes. And everytime I took a guy out, one of the others left his place to go stand on the tower. I just kept luring them away by throwing rocks in the same places, stealth takedowning them, and then tossed their bodies in a pile. I think the control zones keep people in place (?), but I'm not sure. Now that I've beat the game, I'm about to take a serious look at the editor when I get a chance.
Not magic but maybe she has developed some kind of powers due to heavy drug usage, serving as some kind of mind-control medium. There were others "Faiths" before her, maybe they just failed in developing these mind extending powers?
Basicly what the CIA tried with MK Ultra and what they have covered in Stranger Things.
But that's just a very far fetched theory with nothing in the story or game world providing any proof for it.
Yeah, if the Bliss straight allowed some kind of astral projection/travel and mind control, it would make more sense, because that's essentially what seemed to happen.
What bothers me the most about Faith's segment is that it does a lot of finger pointing and assumptions about your character that I almost pulled my hair out.
"These people don't want to leave!"
"Well, you're not exactly giving them a choice."
"It's better in here! Don't you like how nice it is here[in the bliss]?"
"Not really, places like these make me uncomfortable."
"You're doing all these for what? To be a hero?"
"Not really no, I just care about these people and they're being brainwashed, I don't want any credit. "(My character wears the beanie and banana for this exact reason.)
"If you only speak in violence..then I guess I just have to respond in violence as well."
"I'm literally only speaking in violence because you and by extension the game isn't giving me the option not too. If I could I'd have you all arrested and and a majority of my body count would be unconscious people."
That last one really pissed me off because of how much the game forces you to be lethal and violent and has the audacity to say "How could you!"
I have to be honest, out of everyone, I feel sorry for Faith, it's like she just got dragged into this bullshit through drug usage and someone took advantage of her through that, John is a cunt and just has problems really, I mean the thing of carving or tattooing a sin onto someone's skin and then possibly removing it via cutting that piece of skin off, like, jeez man, chill out, and Jacob is strange, while his logic is partly stupid, his talk at the end doesn't make me want to kill him, instead I'm interested to just listen to him and what he has to say, he was more of a middle ground kinda guy for me, John was the one I really wanted to fucking kill.
Story/Character stuff.
I really don't feel bad about Faith, like the brothers are shitty, but in no universe is there justification for creating angels out of people.
They're all terrible people, like in respects are they remotely redeemable nor should they be given pity at all.
Is there some sort of upper limit on the number of sounds that can be going off in an area or something? The way companion speech keeps getting interrupted by seemingly nothing is fucking bizarre. As if there's some number of channels sounds and dialog can play on and unfunnyhurkline1a.wav keeps getting interrupted by distantbearfart.wav but Hurk keeps trying to trigger it over and over until he's able to finish the line or gets distracted by something else.
Somewhat related: NPCs that are giving you missions getting interrupted by every single enemy aircraft within a 100 mile radius is the worst thing ever. It took me 5 minutes for the dialog on the Cheeseburger mission to finish because he went alert every time a helicopter spawned nearby.
Angels are an interesting concept to me. They are essentially slaves, and I disliked killing them. I felt terrible killing people armed with farming tools. I don't know if that's what they were going for, but I played the game assuming that they converted people that kept trying to fight them into the Angels instead of killing them. You could argue that they were too far gone, and were basically zombies, but the fact that they can tend to Bliss fields shows that they still have a spark and likely had the possibility to come back.
Nah, two of the characters at the prison tell you that the angels are too far gone and can't be revived.
