Fanfiction generally isn't written by the actual creator of the universe.
I mean, sure it is, if it ain't official that means it's fanfiction, also Michael Kirkbride didn't create the Elder Scrolls universe, just some of the more exotic pieces of lore and a bit of worldbuilding.
Like don't get me wrong, Kirkbride's crazy ass creativity was great and I very much enjoy it and wish it was still around, even if some of the time it got a little TOO crazy (but hey, better than boring generic fantasy universe), but none of what he says holds any weight in regards to the games anymore, it is quite literally just fanfiction being made by a former writer, sure you can headcanon the shit out of them if you want, but that doesn't suddenly make them canon within the contexts of the actual Elder Scrolls universe.
pretty sure they consulted him for Oblivion, Skyrim,
pretty sure they consulted him for Oblivion, Skyrim,
That still doesn't make his word law at all, stories he writes on his off time still aren't canon, they might be entertaining, but certainly not canon, even if they work, it's just really good (or just plain strange) fanfiction from someone who officially wrote for the game previously.
Makes me wonder though, if Kirkbride still enjoys writing lore abet unofficially and people enjoy what he's writing, then why haven't they asked him to come back fully.
[editline]edit[/editline]
Like I ain't meaning to get peoples panties in a twist, I really ain't, I think the guys writing is crazily brilliant in a lot of places, if a tad off the deep end or up it's own ass sometimes, but like, honestly if Kirkbride were to come back to write actual official lore, he needs a filter at the very least, someone to keep his ideas grounded, yet still brilliant.
[editline]edit[/editline]
Also I checked, apparently he was contracted to do some official writing work for them in relation to the Knights of the Nine DLC after he departed, but that's about it.

He worked unofficially on Skyrim as well (he wrote stuff for their design documents, plus Heimskr's speech is something he wrote and put online several months before release); he still has friends and fans among Bethesda so his work still finds its way in.
He's been on a hiatus from anything TES for the past couple years, though.
edit:
I still find it weird though, if he enjoys writing unofficial non-canon stuff on the side, while getting the odd actual on-off, sometimes unrecorded official job on the side from Bethesda, then why not just rehire him.
Does he not want to work for Bethesda anymore? or does Bethesda not really want him.
I'd guess the reason he left and the reason he hasn't fully come back is because he gets bored writing the same thing
He's also been involved with Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Telltale's Minecraft and Batman games... a lot of random shit, not all of which he's credited for (for Force Unleashed he got a special thanks for being part of the design team that developed the game's plot, apparently)

Ah, so he's busy, I guess that makes sense.
Still you'd think Bethesda would want to snatch him up again, I mean he clearly has regained interest in the Elder Scrolls universe, he's going to waste writing non-canon supplemental material... And writing for Telltales Minecraft and Batman of all things. :v:
dunno how many people have been watching Wilburgur's Oblivion playthrough, but

If I had to pick I'd pick Autism Cat, he really is deepest lore.
Kirkbrides got nothing on him.
Autism cat is my hero.
I look forward to a skyrim series
i prefer watching the lafave bros lets play. less cringe, less memes and oblivion's unmodded glitchy-ness is funny enough on it's own
You know what's severely underrated? The Dwarven Ruins in the Dragonborn DLC.
Maybe it's because I'm actively examining their design, but holy moly there was a lot of effort put into them compared to some of the vanilla dwarven dungeons.
I loath that dwarven ruins will probably lead me to falmer. Jesus i hate falmer. I mean, there's plenty of dwarven stuff I don't like about dwarven ruins (Architecture, spongy enemies, irrationally placed traps) but the falmer... Oh they're just fucking terrible. It's why we all think of skyrim's enemy as Draugr; Nobody likes the dwemer or falmer sections, but the nordic tombs are relatively well balanced experiences, so we favour exploring them. But the falmer...
-Rediculously tanky, you'll even have some difficulty with lower leveled ones. I'm pretty sure I've had more problems with Falmer mooks than I've had with dragons. And this part's weird when you consider that they're elves who lost to the moronic nords; They shouldn't be physically strong.
- Frost spells slowing you isn't fun to be on the receiving end, when they're so common.
-The fact that they're blind highlights a lot of the issues in the game's stealth system. It also makes companions a pain in the ass.
-Lore wise, a bunch of better, other things could've been done with the snow elves. Ice warriors?
-Charus Chitin looks like shit, I mean, the stuff looks cool, but it looks functionally worse than steel (except the archery stuff, Ironically looks good considering all the oddball bow design) You'd think they'd just grab the dwemer stuff; it doesn't rust so why wouldn't you?.
-Falmer traps are bullshit too. It's so rare that they're not ridiculously obvious.
-Most of their attacks are just them spraying you with ice while they close the distance. you need your manouverability to deal with such a tanky foe.
I do have to wonder, why do you even play Skyrim at this point?
I do have to wonder, why do you even play Skyrim at this point?
If you took all video game bitching like this, you'd swear video games were as popular as wasps at a picnic and no-one ever played them.
i will never understand how can people make pretty faces with racemenu while i can only make one that looks like plastic barbie
Is Solstheim entirely gray like the first town you encounter on it? Ive tried to play Dragonborn a couple times but fuck me I can think of any aesthetic less appealing than when you first arrive at Solstheim.

all of morrowind? :v:

Also I don't get the Ulfric meme, I know the Thalmor helped out Ulfric and let him out, and they support Ulfric's rebellion but only for as long as it's a rebellion?
Him actually winning, beating the Empire is not what they want, they just want him to be a distraction. It says so in the dossier book thingie.
With how mismanaged the empire is currently, Stormcloaks winning the war is probably better as a whole for Tamriel because it sets one more nation against the thalmor and removes most of their influence in it. Though Tullius and Rikke at the helm would be better. Ulfric could probably make a decent field commander, but he's no nation leader. If the empire collapses regardless of a side winning the war, Tullius winning is the better outcome. With the Elder Council murdering the emperor though, I don't see them breaking the concordat anytime soon.
The Concordat is seriously fucking up the Empire's ability to recover and they need to annul it. They needed to annul it the moment hammerfell drove back the thalmor. As it is, the thalmor have free reign to gather info about the empire's forces, sow dissent among the populace, and commit all kinds of sabotage. Subterfuge is the thalmor's greatest strength, and the concordat gives them all they need to commit it. Cyrodiil is an absolute mess. Cheydinhal has been completely sacked, Bravil has fallen to skooma pushers. I can't imagine Anvil's doing well being one of the first regions to be invaded. If you think Skyrim's situation is bad, imagine what the Thalmor have been up to in Cyrodiil. Cicero's Journal entries from before he goes mad don't paint a good picture.

lots of effort and downtime between work and studies. [sp]trust me[/sp]
[editline]28th November 2017[/editline]
granted i use ECE but it really is no difference. they are both equally good, maybe RM is like 1-2% better with its better slider options and easy access to more warpaints and stuff like that.

You need to remember that nords have the tactical prowess of a blind fishwife who can't remember the names of her children. Don't consider the poor AI of skyrim to be a lack of effort, It's a feature. I thank that the redguards are the ones leading the resistance. The only reason the Nords ever beat the falmer was because they were bigger and, back in the day, immune to frost, and the falmer were little guys with an arsenal of useless cold (they had one guy with steel, ONE!)
Nords make good coasters, decorations for the extiriors of cities, and wife beaters. That stubbornness for their faith? They've switched four fucking times.Their Master smith? A conman with a magic forge who largely makes the same shit as everyone else. Their theives guild? Failing. Assassins? Failing. Fighters and mages? Gone, their replacements a furball frat club and some guys who disappeared half a town.
Nords are a stupid people. Don't trust them to do anything good, much less fight an enemy that isn't all snowballs. Side with the empire, or go join the armies of Hammerfell. They're masters of a silly amount of blades, really stronk, and probably deflect magic blasts with their swords like jedi.

But bretons are tiny and not half as good as magic as the elves that fucked their moms. I feel like this is a lose/lose

Don't be sad that you don't have superior mixed blood running through your veins.

Better at magic than any other race, no matter what the elves might like to think, with zero downsides.
And compact, not tiny.

Oh right they don't instadie to magic like the Altmer do. Could the Nords in charge of defending Skyrim after a victory against the Empire just go to the College, enchant their weapons for +1 damage in any school and just instagib the elves?
