nothing breaks morrowind more than getting spammed with free dark brotherhood armor in the first 3 hours
It gets even worse in OpenMW. Brotherhood assassins actually have an ebony dart on them worth 2k gold, and they tend to immediately throw it in vanilla Morrowind, but they won't in OpenMW, meaning you can start collecting them and selling those too.
Your very special friend also gives you some ebony stars, you should trickle them to a certain creeper. Eventually when the creeper has enough of them in his inventory you can abuse the barter system and sell stuff worth up to 25k with no loss, then proceed to buy all of the training and cheese though the entire game
I always wondered why he made this change with the war axe, I thought the shape of it fit the Daedric aesthetic of having unnecessary pointy edges.
The thing is fucking blunt.
Honestly, I like the daggerfall way of doing weapons: everything looks the same but the metals cause a recolour and weight/damage/price modifiers are there. Like if a daedric longsword was just a regular longsword but with a red blade, the game'd be a step forward, both in that something looks better and that way less resources were used so they can go to something else.

Weren't you the one going on and on and on about how the design of the orcish armour alters your perception of the orcs themselves and thought it was a step back to make it ugly? Wouldn't that imply you were in favour of using the design to inform the world's lore and cultures but here you are advocating the complete opposite?
Having all weapons look the same across type would be boring and kill a lot of positivity about progressing. As ridiclous as they are, the best thing about finally getting all daedric equipment is looking like Sergent Spikes, evil leader of the Impailers. If you go from dull chrome dude in armour to red dude in armour then that's clear but boring.

Since we're over twenty years on after daggerfall, In the case they did go recolours, I think they'd actually go with a few models/textures/styles and maybe even make shit modular (EG Fancy orsimer hilt with garnet and corrundumn stones, simple type X breton blade of ebony, fancy breton handle, Huge steel pomel, simple sheath.)
You'd still use armour and weapons to do lore and culture. Maybe some stuff like glass or chitin would be odd ones out. I think an issue with skyrim is that they overblow and exaggerate their shit to make it all stand out, and it sorta clashes really badly because of that. Gauntlets never fit with the rest of the armour, there are weapons that go beyond looking like bad paddles and just look stupid (imperial steel sword?) They never thought of how armour and weapons would look mismatched, only how they'd look as complete sets. A more down to earth approach would've looked better.

Nah that's dumb
When I posted that mod I didn't intend for it to generate this much debate
BUT WHILE WE'RE ON THE SUBJECT OF AXES

Can we all agree this looks dumb as fuck? :v:

I think it's ok, they should just flip the front blade.
Maybe the next system could be something like Dragon Age Inquisition. You have every weapon in every tier be unique looking and cool the way Skyrim does it, but you can recraft your -insert material here- Sword at a forge with some other material tier to keep the design, only doing a very slight color change and adding the primary design feature of whatever tier you chose e.g Steel would add carvings to the guard.

I get a lot of messages on Nexus about this very topic over a mod I made called Real Bows. Most people recognize what I was trying to do with the mod, about half are completely for it, others say it's boring and some say makes it so the bows don't fit with their "set".
Bottom line is you've got two main camps it seems, one camp really likes games with aesthetics like TES, the Divinity games and so on for the over the top fantasy designs. The other likes Mount & Blade and Game of Thrones for more realistic designs, I personally fall into the more realistic camp unless there's a good reason for a design to be over the top.
I use Real Bows, but I deleted the new mesh for the Daedric bow because it's magic.
That's actually the exact reason why there's no Bound bow replacement model in the mod.

To be fair, while Daedric stuff is supernatural it's still made of physical materials, and the previous game's designs for Daedric bows were somewhat more realistic

Real Bows Daedric bow is still far less ornate, though
That's actually the exact reason why there's no Bound bow replacement model in the mod.
I always assumed the Bound Bow takes the same mesh file as the usual Daedric bow and puts a shader on it or something.
Regardless, both are magic.
To be fair, while Daedric stuff is supernatural it's still made of physical materials
So is nearly everything magic, you wouldn't attach an actual shield to a Ring of Protection in the name of realism would you?
I just think it's more justified using the original mesh for Daedric stuff than, say, the solid metal Dwarvern/elven bow.
Most game developers don't seem to know how bows work or maybe it's too much work to make it bend properly. The way they do it is just the string being pulled but bow not bending at all.

IIRC skyrim's bows bend.

Why does everyone want to flip the blade? Both look just as good to me.

Actually it wasn't difficult to do and didn't take very long per bow, most of the bows in Real Bows don't even fit the original skeleton because they're either differently shaped, larger or smaller than the originals, I just did some creative weight painting when I skinned them in 3D Max to make sure they looked good in flexion. All of Skyrim's bows use the same exact skeleton and animations.

I have 2 saves left. I think I'm going to start a vanilla playthrough and go through the main quest without dying. Save only when I kill Alduin.

I pray that your game doesn't crash before you beat alduin.

Because if you take a full swing at a mailed or even chained opponent with any bracing, any hit centering on the top third of the axe will shatter or torque the blade. The reasons weapons look the way they do is because of physics, not because medieval designers were fetishists.

Nah it'd be fine, I don't see anything really wrong with it, but you're right on the last point.
My fetish specifically includes turning weapons upside down

While this is true, I can think of many far, far more physically dodgy weapon designs in skyrim than that axe.
I got a big box copy of Redguard today and wanted to share how cool it is.
Starting with the box. This version is from Australia and it comes with a sweet gatefold cover.

Here's the manual. See the pages that I'm holding? That's the actual manual of the game, about 10 pages, sandwiched between a 28-page comic and a 40+ page Pocket Guide to the Empire.

Are you Redguard enough to chop off the arm of a mage and use it to blast giant wasps?

I've mentioned it before but it would nice to see more spin-off Elder Scrolls game. With a series containing such a large world full of lore, it really doesn't get to live up to it's potential with a single game coming out every 5 or more years.

The blade even at the skinniest part is so incredibly thick I don't thick that'd make much of a difference. Still, having the center of weight be higher would be more effective.
The real problem with the weapon is that it looks like it came from a prop factory, not like it was actually forged by someone. Still as far as fantasy weapons go I say it's not half bad.
Does modding Oblivion disable Steam achievements? Kinda want to get them all as an excuse to do a play through.
Oblivion doesn't have steam achievements?
Spinoffs to fill the half-a-decade time gaps would be nice. A title mechanically like Divinity: Original Sin or a lighter Dark Souls ala Bloodborne are some ideas I've always had floating around
Oblivion doesn't have steam achievements?
iirc back when oblivion came to Steam, the only games with Steam achievements were the ones made by Valve... Back when Valve still made games.
