Technically, they only briefly had that army to defend against the Oblivion Crisis, because the Hist themselves were at risk and called as many Argonians back to them as they could to defend themselves. Normally, the Hist don't give enough shits to interfere, and the Argonians are pretty disorganized. edit: also while I would not be the least bit surprised if the Hist had roots everywhere, conquest isn't really their cup of tea; they're much happier chilling out with their lizard dudes and watching everyone else duke it out The Hist rarely act except to protect themselves
Well I mean you kind of just described a Daedra perfectly, doesn't give a shit until it needs to do something specifically advantageous for itself. Like obviously it is either omnipotent or almost at that level and it needs some way to reach out. Just saying it can instantly assemble millions from all over the fucking place on command. Sounds like a god in charge of that dimension to me even if it is used reactively as a hivemind.

Possibly even from beyond the Godhead. They're incomprehensible eldritch tree gods from beyond time and space who fuck around and make lizard people for who knows what reason
Been playing even more ESO and I got to say the Daggerfall pact seems to make the most sense. The Ebonheart has nords, a bunch of slaves, and backstabbing black elves. The aldrtmrti are a bunch of limp twisted elves and cats. Daggerfall has swole orcs, fearsome redguards, and powerful bretons. Also their main quest is cool as hell. Love it. [editline]2nd January 2018[/editline] By the by, add me @sleevies Let's lob some elf heads off together sometime.
I still hate them all. The Orcs get so persecuted by the bretons that they're a monster, not a race, in daggerfall. Orsinium gets sacked a whole bunch of times. The Dunmer hate the nords and the argonians and vice versa, The Altmer/bosmer/Khajiit makes enough sense, but they shouldn't really need a reason to do that since the other factions don't get along and the altmer are pretty xenophobic even with elves. A more reasonable scenario would be all the humans teaming up to kill all the elves. All the elves teaming up to fend off the humans, the Khajiit trying for nuetrality or getting close to the bosmer, the Argonians staying in argonia, and the Orsimer will either fight everything alone or recruit monsters and daedra. The sload and/or moarmer aught to do something cool in a modern TES.
Anyone have any ideas for unique enemy mechanics? I have one enemy mechanic in a level where casting magic spells at the target doesn't damage them, however the spell cost is absorbed and restores their magicka. If the target has maximum magicka when this happens, the target's magicka is drained. Also health is drained to restore half it's magicka, meaning that if I have 0/100 magicka and 300/300 health, 50 health is drained to restore magicka so it's 50/100 250/300. Those enemies also take 90% less physical damage and have a spell that drains the target's stamina and deals 25% of stamina drained to health damage. I think the idea needs to revolve around spriggans and poison since those two elements are related to the quest surrounding the dungeon. The story is a bunch of poisoned spriggans are kept under containment in this deep dungeon by ancient warrior ghosts because if the spriggans reach the surface, they might poison the surface. However, the spriggans believe that once they reach the surface and embrace Kyne's light, the poison will be purged from them. You can choose to fight for the warriors, or choose to fight for the spriggans. So far their melee attack gives the victim a random poison effect on attack but I still need a passive ability and a magic ability.
For my kittypawnch mod I toyed with the idea of a assassin/brotherhood guild type adversary that would change the player's faction as a last resort before teleporting away if the player failed to do enough damage to kill them in a single hit (as they were a continent famous assassin) basically making the character karmically stinky until they found a specific cure recipe(they would have access to if they searched her lair well and solved a puzzle), making going into towns impossible and making dragons p much aggro them 24/7 unless they had the recipe or killed her before she could get the spell off.

The worst kind of enemy. Runs at you, immediately engages in pointless dialogue Dumps a fuck load of heavy items in your inventory
The worst kind of enemy. Runs at you, immediately engages in pointless dialogue Dumps a fuck load of heavy items in your inventory
so it's just a courier but instead of giving mail it's another player who's overencumbered and gives you a ton of shit

[editline]3rd January 2018[/editline] Would be interesting to see a monster that spits mud at you that is an actual item in your inventory that you have to drop to unencumber you, or use a fire spell to melt it off of you. Would only be good like no more than twice or else it'd just get tedious.

i never touched dawnguard before, so now i'm stuck with the vampires without realizing it
Anyone have any ideas for unique enemy mechanics?
So like, there are these guys defending a castle from you, but the twist is the castle is a really good castle and they don't let you in the front gate or let you go through huge holes in the wall.
It almost looks 9 years old
Yeah and vanilla skyrim looks 12 years old
Is ESO worth picking up for €19.99 on Steam? Been having the urge to get it, it looks like fun but I'm worried it's going to be too grindy like most other MMOs, and not fun to play on your own unless you're playing with a buddy. I'm also unable to find any information on wether it has a monthly subscription fee or if it's a one time purchase only.

It's easily playable and enjoyable without subscribing. For the price I recommend it. Don't go in expecting it to be like Oblivion or Skyrim, but the setting is still done well and I find the quest to be fun. At times you'll notice a grind when a quest giver has you go to the three furthest regions on the map to simply ask an npc something, but otherwise it's well varied in content. Give it a go I say.

The xp gain could be a bit higher, but the quests themselves are all written and voiced mini stories that work similar to traditional elder scrolls quests, which takes the edge off any grindiness.
i never touched dawnguard before, so now i'm stuck with the vampires without realizing it
If you planning to play them, beware though Dawnguard is pretty hectic DLC. Especially on Forgotten Vale and Soul Cairn
soul cairn was a pain in the ass those bonefuckers get tedious quick I eventually dug out my cheater bow and cheesed my way through them. realistically I was probably just too overleveled to enjoy myself especially since I dump everything into health and stamina so it was a lot of trading arrows with the horde. if I don't end up downing at least a dozen health potions against that many enemies it's boring as shit forgotten vale was super rad though [editline]5th January 2018[/editline] also serana is a total waifu so it was all worth it [editline]5th January 2018[/editline] like she resurrects rabbits even though they're useless in combat how can you not love someone so kind to animals

Fur and meat presumably, which'd raise some interesting questions if there weren't skeleton warriors.
There's a certain kind of joy to be had in resurrecting pacifist creatures like deer.
Why where you killing them in the first place
STOP RIGHT THERE CUNICULARIAN SCUM
Why where you killing them in the first place
Obviously to fill up on the “Bunnies Slaughtered” stat

I disliked Serana so much that I was waiting for the option to side with her evil father for the entire quest line. Even walking into the final confrontation I was like "Oh man I hope this isn't just a boss fight, Maybe now we find out how Harkon can still win?".
I just finished Dawnguard for the first time, reaching 1877 hours of Skyrim. I have tried to do it before but the first quest in Dawnguard having that stupid choice to bring Serana to her father always made me reroll a new character. Thought that I would write a short review. I will leave holes, but you can fill them in yourself. PLOT, Main Quest Line - Dawnguard's side After joining the Dawnguard the leader, Isran, sends one of his newest recruits, you, to investigate a dungeon where the Vigilants have encountered vampires. There you kill an ancient vampire and "rescue" a female Vampire named Serana. Instead of killing her, like any sane sworn vampire hunter would do, you bring her home to her father. Her father then for some reason thinks this warrents a really big reward so he want to give you his blood, turning you into a powerful vampire lord. This doesn't feel like a huge overreaction at all. Anyway, I said no and he just let me go, totally willy-nilly. Going back to the Dawnguard and telling Isran what you found and what you did should make him furious and call you a dumb MF, right? No. He is just one of Bethesda's really good written characters. like Daddy Neeson in Fallout 3 when you tell him you nuked Megaton, he just goes "oh well" and sends you on a wild goose chase across Skyrim to find some old friends of his. When you return from that Isran tells you that a vampire is there to see you, because a guy filled with so much hatred for vampires would totally let one inside Fort Dawnguard. The vampire is Serana and the rest of the questline is you and her questing together to stop an old prophecy. During this epic journey you learn that Serana has huge daddy- and abandonment issues and you can totally flirt with her. (Serana says something along the lines of "Turns out you do not get to know anyone just by sleeping with them." to which you can respond with something like "Do you mean that you want to get to know me?". Nice, this implies that you have slept with her.) Everytime you return to Fort Dawnguard after finishing one of the quests something new has been added, mostly palisade walls. Why Isran decides to put these up now instead of when he started restoring the fort years ago I do not know. Fast forward to the final quest leading up to the battle against Serana's dad, the big mean meanie. Castle Volkihar (The vampire castle) have this giant metal gate infront of the front entrance, but for some reason when you charge the castle with the rest of the Dawnguard the vampires keep the front door wide open so that you can just go straight through. You and Serana goes up to her neglecting father and Serana tells him how she feels. You then kill him without even using the god damned bow that you spent half the quest line searching for. ***The End.*** Side Quest All the side quests is either Bethesda's trademarked fetch quests(Why the hell is Ancient Technology split up into several parts, jeez), refurbished vanilla bounty quests where you go after a vampire instead or "Go to random hold and kill a vampire masquerading as a citizen without anyone catching you" quests. The quick walkthrough on Ancient Technology from uesp.net sums it up pretty well. 1. Speak with Sorine Jurard. 2. Travel to the target location. 3. Retrieve the requested schematics. 4. Return to Sorine. + Repeat six times. Soul Cairn Boring, empty oblivion plane desert filled with scary [del]skeletons[/del] bonemen. I think I get what feeling Bethesda tried to go for here with the no shadows are casted here because there is no sun in this place of eternal torment, but it just made me feel like I accidentally turned off shadows. Forgotten Vale I actually liked this place. It was beautiful. It had new mechanics like the dragons bursting through the ice and the wayshrines. There was also a lot of vertical gameplay, which Skyrim does not have so much of elsewhere. The bad things is that it was small and you did not spend a lot of time there. Could really have gone on for a bit longer. Serana is such an obvious waifu it hurts. I will give credit to Bethesda for trying to create a character with more depth than a wet noodle, but did they have to make her so insufferable? "I hate the sun", "I hate snow", "I hate caves", and so on. When I finished the last quest I went to the Soul Cairn with Serana to meet her mother and do what one should have done the moment you met Serana. (Which would have stopped Harkon's plan in it tracks since then there would be no Daughter of ColdHarbour whose blood to use for the prophecy.)
