So, you've switched from Victoria 2 to Hearts of Iron 4 because it is easier to mod?
yep, vicky 2 was absolutely impossible to add new terrain in and had a mirriade of issues with doing an overhaul on the scale of ANO. it's amazingly more managable in HOI4, and i feel like the game fits the setting much better.
I kind of want to do focus trees and tech trees for it
I'll add you and we can talk about it, need all the help I can get.

What's with the little missile in the bottom left corner? It looks out of place compared to the rest.

I wonder why I should pick the last one...

To fill in the space, It is on it's own layer so I can easily remove it (or replace it with anything else) if people want.

Shitty dev art aside, I decided to go a little more in depth regarding the project, go over planned changes and additions, and sort of describe how the systems in place work thus far. For starters, all map data is generated from bitmap images stored on the server. If someone wants to host an RP game, they can also upload the necessary files to generate that map data. This system is very similar to how most Paradox games are moddable, with a few differences. Like Paradox games, initial map data is generated from a number of files.
1. territories.bmp defines territory shape; all 24 bit colors are available, aside from black, which designates unownable territory.
2. landmass.bmp defines where there is land, designated as white, and water, which is designated as black. Water masses can be ownable. Rivers and lakes should be drawn on this map.
3. biomes.bmp defines biome extents
4. heightmap.bmp is currently experimental; as of now, it's just used for defining combat advantages and unit movement. As of now it's a 32bit float.
5. resources.bmp defines the location of specific resources on the map
6. diffuse.bmp defines the actual visible map drawn on the screen
Each territory's ID is the same as it's RGB value converted to an integers, and some online calculators and tools can do this for you automatically.
Borders are generated automatically, so the diffuse map should just be an artistic representation of the world, such as a satellite view of earth, and while the resolution of the map should be identical to your data maps,
don't worry about quality, as the game automatically generates additional fidelity to the image at higher zoom levels.
6. definitions.csv defines the name of a territory, syntax is [int_value_of_map_color];[territory_name];[default_owner_username]
7. rdefinitions.csv defines the name of a resource, syntax is nearly the same as the above, int_color;resource_name;value;applicable_categories...;URL_to_locate_resource_image
If there is no URL, the definition will automatically search for resource_name.png in the uploaded files.
Additionally, the host can create new resources at run time without leaving the game. There is currently no way to paint resources in game, but I'm looking into it.
Units and buildings are not tied to the territory map grid when moving, but do only take the value of the pixel they're actually inside. As of now, all buildings can only be built inside of cities, but looking for advice as to how people would prefer me to handle it. As you change zoom levels, the map procedurally changes the displayed information. At furthest zoom, cities aren't displayed at all, while zooming in further will begin rendering units and cities as dots and map icons. At furthest zoom, individual units and buildings* are visible. While individual soldiers aren't visible, there is currently a representative unit displayed. At the zoom level above, only the commander of the unit is visible, and is drawn at a larger scale. Unit armor and weapons are created by players, or the host, in-game. The player can define the composite raw resources of an item, and then upload an image to represent it, as well as giving it a category.
For instance, with a default raw resource of iron, setting the category to HELMET will allow the player to create an iron helmet that can be equipped in its armies, the player can then draw the armor themselves, and upload it to the server, allowing truly custom armies and units. Additionally, each category handles the designated value differently. Currently, categories are not moddable, but interested in anyone's advice as to how people would want it. Currently, all armor pieces, for instance, get their protection value from the value of the components of the armor piece.
Right now, I'm really looking for any artists out there for some default art assets for the UI and such, as well as any advice for gameplay elements and all that.

gonna start working on the next chapter to realms of orbis
map and world is modified to a degree
there's some more changes but hopefully they won't be much of an issue

Its not easy, but in the end just gotta keep practicig and trying for it. Practice does make perfect with these types of things.

Aren't you like related to the House of Hohenzollern or did I hallucinate that factoid :v:

Yeah we haven't had a medieval/Renaissance RP in a while

I've met the Prince of Prussia, but we're not related. I don't think so, anyway :P

That must've been it. I'm not that knowledgeable on the 7 years war time period but hey might be fun

it seems nigh impossible tho since everyone always says "oh use your graphic pen to draw this by the way" and using the mouse is practically torture

I use Ms. Paint and its not all that bad. Just gotta practice with it imo

france and austria put aside their differences to stop prussia and britain getting too powerful; britain and prussia tell them to fuck off and spend seven years telling them exactly how and where they should be fucking off. the united states, despite not existing yet, claims victory retroactively

In paint, draw rough blobs roughly corresponding to what you want or if you don't know, make large shapes that are separated but are puzzle piece like in how they can fit together.
Then download Gimp, load it, create a new layer and draw your outline over it with the ink tool, using a small brush. Let your hand shake a little as you go over to give it a natural shape, and go off the blog and draw peninsulas, bays or whatever as you see fit.
Create a new layer under, delete the base blobs, fill in on the new layer with a larger brush.

I slightly lean Orbis but I can go either way.
