I don't know if I should wait or not before starting the rp
I'm not going to Reddit. That much is certain. If garry can get a PM system in the new forum, then it'll all be fine. Quiet contact between players and the GM is the only crucial thing in RPs here. Worse case scenario is we just use email instead, but that would be susceptible to spam once public.
Garry said that PMs are in the works.
I don't see why PM would be under threat, it's a crucial part of FP anyhow.
I don't know if I should wait or not before starting the rp
In my opinion doing it before the change moght be a good idea since then you dont have to worry abou setting everything up on a whole new format right away
Why wouldn't you go to reddit, emp? [editline]30th May 2016[/editline] I'm planning on taking things over there in the case of FP 2.0 merging behind my back while I'm out or something.
If it comes to it we could always migrate to nation states eh? An already good forum site with a tremendous rp community
I don't know about tremendous. Last time I was there it was full of power-playing madmen. I've been talking to Craptasket pretty closely about the change and he said a lot of the stuff being left out in the OP isn't going to be left out. I'd imagine PMing would be one of the things kept. As much as I hate the new changes, it's fucking inevitable because Garry don't give a fuck what we all think. So we may as well stick around and try it out. At the very least we get to create our own subforum for all the roleplays. That'll be great, actually. Because it'll be a return of "Roleplay Wonderland" that got culled way back when. We'll be able to have more roleplays up at any given time without them getting lost in the shitpost haven that is Fast Threads. And since subforums will have their own mods, picked by the community, it'll be a lot easier to police trolls and raiders.

As far as power players go you were probably on the NS RP sub forums. Theres an entire section devoted to non NS rps. And idk man i paid ten bucks for my title, kinda pissed im losing it. But yea maybe a whole new rp sub forum could work but only time will tell.

In case ya missed it, we got a discord group https://discord.gg/012l0KaVJldtdtOnE
There's a 1024 character limit on the new FP site. We're boned if that doesn't change
What's the fucking purpose of that?
Probably to limit people from ranting or some other stupid reason because Garry is a dickhead
There's a 1024 character limit on the new FP site. We're boned if that doesn't change
What the fuck? That's half of the limit on 4chan. You can type 2,000 characters per post there. What the absolute fuck [editline]1st June 2016[/editline]
In case ya missed it, we got a discord group https://discord.gg/012l0KaVJldtdtOnE
The fuck is discord and why has this link expired
The fuck is discord and why has this link expired
Think TeamSpeak, but fancier. Here's a new link.
What's wrong with teamspeak
No one is saying anything is wrong with it but discord is also an app apparently. I dont know why you're arguing against this so much Ven :V
No one is saying anything is wrong with it but discord is also an app apparently. I dont know why you're arguing against this so much Ven :V
Who's arguing? I asked what Discord was, and then I asked what's wrong with teamspeak. Stop being such a sensitive sally :pudge: [editline]1st June 2016[/editline] Also it's Sno or Snoberry, tyvm
discord is a chatting and voice chatting program similar to teamspeak, but i find it has much better quality in terms of voice chatting also you can make rooms for free w/ no problems whereas you'd have to buy a ts3 server(?)
Why wouldn't you go to reddit, emp? [editline]30th May 2016[/editline] I'm planning on taking things over there in the case of FP 2.0 merging behind my back while I'm out or something.
For better or worse, Facepunch is my home. This is a community I've been a part of since 2008 (ignore this account's join date). I know everyone here and everyone here knows me. I know how the place 'works' for a severe lack of better words. Reddit is a completely alien place to me that I've never really spent any, let alone much, time on. I cannot and do not want to uproot myself here for another forum, even if just to do RPs. [editline]5th June 2016[/editline] I skimmed over the new changes to the site and from my skimming I understand that subforums will set their own rules and moderators (correct if wrong). Given the assumption that eventually a RP subforum will be made, ought we here to discuss possible rules/guidelines for it? (rather not talk about moderatorship until there's more on that from garry + not wanting to start a 'it should be me/no, it should be me' argument).
To add onto what Scorp said, it was also because of FP's rules that this RP community developed and flourished. To just rip it out and lazily insert it into another site would be disrespectful, not to mention isolationist in some cases (like if we moved to our own subreddit for example). In fact, I don't really think we NEED a subforum per say. We aren't active enough to solicit our own section of the site. I mean, we barely use this General Chat thread. Unless we're forced to make our own subforum because it would allow us to expand the character limit, I'd say we stay in Fast Threads. If we do make a subforum, we'll need to find a way to keep our presence somehow in FT, because we'd be isolated somewhat, meaning an almost complete lack of possible new players.
if we were to make a new subforum, we could take on the role of "roleplay wonderland" from the old facepunch way back and maybe allow historical discussion threads too. if we bring in enough stuff related to rp games and the backgrounds and shit to them we could have enough traffic to justify a subforum idk if we're really need extra rules because generally people behave themselves in these thread in spite of the lack of moderation - ban troublemakers rather than make up a big list of rules nobody cares about
TBH I'd say we should still make a subforum just for the fact that RP threads tend to get lost down the Fast Threads subforum quite often. and you know that whole 1024 character limit thing probably doesn't help Besides, it's not like it'd be just for nation RPs, the [sp]nerds[/sp] who play character RPs can also come I guess and give us more traffic until we eventually become like a chinese highway.
I never considered the idea of resurrecting Roleplay Wonderland, mostly because I wasn't around to see it. We could have a few stickied threads for general discussion, for RP discussion, for historical discussion, maybe one for CSS discussion, and possibly even one that talks about the past (like the RW of old and the predecessor of the FPRP group that existed on the Wurm Forums). I may be getting ahead of myself though. Regarding rules, I agree with Sobot. We should just implement the unwritten rules used in Fast Threads and be done with it. We don't really need any change in that regard.
Didn't Garry say that sub-forums would get to set their own character limits?
We should 100% revive "Roleplay Wonderland" I wouldn't worry about activity either. The original RPWL only had like 10 really active members. I feel like we have well beyond that.
ban anyone who panzers
So I finally got around to developing a framework I want to use for running forum RP games. The game would be hosted on my website, but I'm hoping FP2 allows us to embed the web player in a post. As of now, basic stuff is in place. All map data is read and saved from bitmaps, and theoretically, all maps made for Europa Universalis work in the system, albeit with some modification to how territory information is uploaded. (mostly using text files as of now) Additionally, avatars, flags, etc. are all able to load from URLs, so those custom things are taken care of. Your faction, city flags, etc. are made by the player, and currently, I'm limiting the acceptable uploads to imgur because of consistency, but I'll extend the whitelist further. City building is sort of started on, but I'm trying to get a feel for the way people would prefer me handle it. I'm kind of looking for advice from people who play the traditional forum RPs to give an idea of how to tackle the game system so that the game can handle the data without sacrificing the actual RP community aspect. For instance, all resources are custom and also uploaded on a game by game basis, and are distributed based either manually through a bitmap image, or are randomly generated following rules set pre-game (heightmap, biome, temperature, etc.) Custom items are also comprised of those resources and can have, just the same, custom values as well, and fit into specific categories that give them function in-game, and these custom items can be loaded before the game by the host, or created in-game from the list of resources. The current category for testing was the "armor" category that allows the item to be added to an army unit's "inventory," and the image for this is also loaded by the player, and is then loaded onto the soldier sprite, allowing players to create their own armor designs following the unit template, and see their units in-game (at least a representation of them) on the world map. As of now, my biggest obstacle is tackling territory control. As of now, starting territories are set randomly, chosen by the host player, or chosen by the players. There's no fog-of-war or anything yet either, so it's totally possible for 2 players to accidentally end up right next to each other since the placement process occurs simultaneously (except for late-comers who see the updated map before choosing, but looking to change that probably, or allow it an option for the host) I just don't know how I want players to gain additional territories. As of now, it's basically as long as your units are the only ones in the territory, and you have at least one city in it. Looking for advice. [editline]7th June 2016[/editline] obviously this system is built around wargame/nation/4x RP [editline]7th June 2016[/editline] One thing is however, that the current time for the game to actually read the data from the image and convert it to an optimized format for reading in-game is about 2 minutes. The good thing is that this only happens on the very start of the game, and once the conversion is done, the map is discarded. (so far there is no maximum limit, and the 2 minutes is with a world of 4096x4096, where each pixel is a mile squared (this can also be altered by the game host, and is mostly used for maths regarding distances and movement speed for units. I've used images of about 10,000x10,000 without issue, but the loading time for that is pretty atrocious in the beginning, and the game eats additional RAM.
Is it possible to make custom maps? [editline]7th June 2016[/editline] Also steadily increasing influence would be a good idea for gaining control over territory
