Metro Series Megathread - "The Dark Ones will kill us all."

Anyone own Redux for the Xbone?
I bought a Xboner for Destiny and The Master Chief collection so I figured I'd pick Redux up. The graphics look like absolute shit. The first person gun model seems to have static lighting so it's either lit up or dark so it sticks out a lot and all in all the game does not look good...
I'm extra confused because I've been watching comparisons and it looks like the Xbone is supposed to have pretty decent graphics, but mine looks like shit.

Why didn't you buy it on PC? I have the non-redux versions and they look beautiful at max settings.
All right you motherfuckers, let's get this train back on the rails. All aboard, choo choo bitches.

Hell yeah. Been a while since we got a new Metro. Fuckin loved Last Light.
literally just picked up by the hype train
Seems to be freeroam open world, guessing from the viewable map. Hello Spiritual Stalker 2.
It'll be interesting to see how the open world plays out, the map looked fairly small but it could be deep as hell, both literally and figuratively or it could be one of many areas.
Colour me hyped beyond belief.
HELL YEAH! I'm so fucking pumped to see a third one get made. I thought the series would've gone under after the problems with the second one behind closed doors. Metro 2033 remains one of my alltime favorite games ever because of how atmospherically brilliant it is.
About damn time, i was getting worried we'd never see another metro game.
Not too surprised by the game apparant direction either, the library DLC mission seemed like they were testing the water with open world gameplay to me.
He took his mask off when he got outside, that was interesting. Also wondering if we'll be playing as artyom
I like the new watch. It's got everything - a compass, a stealth meter, the voltage meter/geiger counter, and of course, the actual watch part. Also, if you listen closely at 4:22, the woman shouts "Artyom!", so I think we can safely assume we play as Artyom.
What's the are the differences between the original game and Redux? I might get Redux since it is on sale, but I don't know what the differences are or if it's better or not. I know when I got Dead Island's re-release I didn't notice anything different except trucks were all the same color when they used to be varied.

The redux versions are on an updated Metro: Last Light engine. Overall it looks and runs better. Gameplay is also more similar to LL than to original 2033, but you can choose an option that makes it more survival focused.
Interesting trailer, I've gotta say i'm liking that new shotgun.
To be blunt, it was a crappy scripted trailer with cliche music, but damn I'm really happy about this. By the looks of it, they're essentially going for a more prettier take on the previous games with the same basic mechanics, and 'game feel' entirely intact... that is genuinely all I would ask for from another Metro game. I was worried that IF they made another one, they might want to try and change up the whole design and formula and look drastically (as devs seem want to do) but I was really smiling after watching this trailer.
Can't wait. Last Light had so much detail packed into it, so many little things to look at and explore, so much history and lore tucked away... You could get lost in that game just walking around and taking it all in. I really look forward to getting that feeling again. I doubt anyone remembers but I used to gush over how intricately and beautifully the game world in LL had been put together, love it.

You should read Metro 2035, you'll know everything you'll need to know to understand where is Artyom (he's at the Volga river in the trailer) and why he's moving out of Moscow to [sp]Vladivostok.[/sp]
spoilers for Metro 2035
[sp]Basically Moscow is the only place that is fucked up and is kept in check by surviving decadent Russian government that are not letting anyone out (or in for that matter) just for the lulz basically, engineering political turmoils and such all while referring to this mess as "social experiment". Huge radio electronic jammers are all over the place to prevent anyone from reaching the outside world (which actually survived and everyone presumes that Moscow got obliterated due to not responding) and death squads are killing off any curious intruders/wanderers from nearby cities because "They are Western spies that are plotting to destroy us" while in reality nobody gives a shit.
In essence whole book is a huge political and social satire aimed at modern Russia where masses are brainwashed by obvious lies and ruled by ridiculously corrupt "leaders" that exploit theme of "Evil West is trying to destroy us because we tell you so" and those who have a thinking head on their shoulders (Artyom in this case) get ostracized and shunted by the same society they try to free from oppression.[/sp]
I hope for a couple levels on the surface, exploring Moscow in previous games was a blast for me.
I know it's Polygon but the Metro twitter linked to it. Here's the important parts:
“The story starts in Moscow and you play as Artyom and it picks up from Metro: Last Light’s enlightened ending,” Bloch said. “That is canon. It doesn’t pick up directly, but as far as the two endings, it’s canon.”
Bloch added that players will eventually leave Moscow and embark on a journey across a post-apocalyptic Russia. As they make their way through into unfamiliar settings, they’ll encounter familiar faces from previous games in the series.
“We're not saying who joins just yet but there will be a lot of fan favorite characters,” Bloch said, adding that Exodus will be a mix of new settings, weapons, items and characters mixed with returning, familiar elements that fans will know.
In a press release, 4A Games added that Arytom and the survivors who will accompany him on his journey will board the Aurora, a heavily modified steam locomotive, in their attempt to discover a new place to live in the East.

Bloch added that the story takes place over a year and as it progresses, the seasons will change. This means that unlike previous Metro games, players will get to experience summer and spring along with a more traditional winter environment. This will affect the monsters and animals they encounter, along with hazards posed by different seasons.
“There's a big storm brewing in the horizon,” Bloch teased.
That's an interesting way of spelling Khan .
Khan is a great character and a great way to introduce the more mysterious aspects of the Metro. But he shows up in either physical form or in a flashback all the time in both 2033 and Last Light, so it's agiven he's going to turn up at some point in Exodus if he's not already part of the main cast. We haven't seen Bourbon since he was thought dead and he's got every excuse in the world to get the hell out of Moscow.
Bloch said they were doing fan-favorite characters, so who else is there besides them anyway? [sp]Uhlman is dead, Miller is in a wheelchair, Pavel isn't coming anywhere near Artyom with a ten-foot pole, Hunter is still thought dead, which leaves Anna, Khan and Bourbon.[/sp]

If Exodus will follow 2035 even vaguely, Miller is out of question because he's[sp]a terrible cunt and a sellout who works for the government[/sp].

unkel bhoourbon?
Please tell me Uncle Bourbon comes back, loved that guy.
Just bought the redux editions to burn though. They're only like £3.50 at the minute.

That's a really good idea from 4a, people see Exodus at E3, want to know more about the Metro series and BAM it's on sale right now.

well you could argue it's opinion, but the Redux versions are much, much worse than the originals.
metro 2033 redux is especially bad as they destroyed the challenging stealth system from the original and completely wrecked the atmosphere of the game with graphical changes
just look at this shit

Last Light Redux isn't as badly tampered with as it already had the casualized stealth, but they added metric shittons of bloom to the game for no reason.

let's not forget the trainwreck that was ranger hardcore in last light

some videos for comparison
notice how they got rid of the dramatic and visually pleasing lighting in 2033 in favor of a blander but apparently better performing lighting. added bloom and obnoxious lens flares and couldn't even get the player's watch not to clip with the sleeves.
I wouldn't call 2033's stealth "challenging" as much as I would call it bullshit. Sound hazards on the floor that you can't see because turning on a light alerts everyone to your presence, so pray to Khan you're not going to step on anything by mistake. Enemies can detect you even in total darkness sometimes, silenced weapons don't always work, etc. Last Light's dumbing down was stupid but at least it mechanically worked. Bo Schitt outlined 2033's flaws pretty well in his canned Last Light review. The level design changes were a godsend though, the fucking amoeba got nerfed to hell and there's more and better paths for getting through areas that were difficult like Frontline's Nazi trolley.
2033 Redux's graphics are a mixed bag. The lighting is better in a lot of areas and worse in a lot too, the models got shit on with LL's more cartoony style but unless you're directly comparing the two it doesn't feel that different. I played through 2033 quite a few times before I finally got the Redux version and nothing felt that off to me.
