Wasn't it nuclear winter? Why would there be different 'normal' seasons?
Also, is there anywhere to get metro 2035 book in the UK for a reasonable price? It seems to be about £20 on Amazon UK.
Wasn't it nuclear winter? Why would there be different 'normal' seasons?
i guess the sudden thaw after 30 years of winter implies some kind of super-fast global warming, which would explain the extreme weather in Last Light. maybe there was a big methane pocket in the arctic somewhere idk
well you could argue it's opinion, but the Redux versions are much, much worse than the originals.
metro 2033 redux is especially bad as they destroyed the challenging stealth system from the original and completely wrecked the atmosphere of the game with graphical changes
just look at this shit

Last Light Redux isn't as badly tampered with as it already had the casualized stealth, but they added metric shittons of bloom to the game for no reason.
I've been playing Redux at the minute and I'm welcoming some of the changes. Playing on Ranger was easy in the first game, and stealth was borderline bullshit with the entire station knowing where you were (although I enjoyed it) but the new version is super easy. I am looking for a quick burn through this time round though, so some of the gameplay changes are nice.
And idk why you're complaining about the graphical changes, Redux looks 10x better?
Steam page for Exodus is up, some new plot details are up.
The year is 2036.
A quarter-century after nuclear war devastated the earth, a few thousand survivors still cling to existence beneath the ruins of Moscow, in the tunnels of the Metro.
They have struggled against the poisoned elements, fought mutated beasts and paranormal horrors, and suffered the flames of civil war.
But now, as Artyom, you must flee the Metro and lead a band of Spartan Rangers on an incredible, continent-spanning journey across post-apocalyptic Russia in search of a new life in the East.
Since this is a year after 2035 and two years after 2034 that should mean 4A and Glukhovsky won't assume everyone read the book.

Judging from that snippet alone it looks like 2035 didn't happen in this game's story. They'll probably just take some ideas from it.

let's not forget the trainwreck that was ranger hardcore in last light

some videos for comparison
notice how they got rid of the dramatic and visually pleasing lighting in 2033 in favor of a blander but apparently better performing lighting. added bloom and obnoxious lens flares and couldn't even get the player's watch not to clip with the sleeves.
tbh the bullet spongieness in the original metro sucked so hard dick i had to put it down. The combat was truly awful. When redux game around i actually managed to finish it. So all in all each to their own, i prefer the icy city to the Dark one.
edit: actually i remember so clearly playing through the first Metro (being the stalker fan that i am) but i was saying loudly to my self the entire time “why would i play this” actually scratch that “why would ANYONE play this” the stealth was so fucked that i theorized that the enemies had these super mutant powers apparently that is specialized in finding fucking artyom in the dark and that is their sole super power. hell maybe they’d get super strength, laser vision bada-bing-bada-bom but nope their sole super power is to take 20 bullets and finding everyone named artyom in the dark.
and they all looked like creepy puppets, fuck
I've never had a problem with bullet spongy enemies, although I only play on ranger hardcore.
[editline]14th June 2017[/editline]
I do prefer original 2033, even the stealth, to redux but only slightly.

i didn’t im a casual like that - thats why i loved last light people died when they got shot.
apparently everyone in the original metro walked around with jacked up sixpack abs so tight they can catch a bullet.

Enemies aren't bulletsponges, you're just a terrible shot.
When calculating damage inflicted by weapons, the dev team made it so that every piece of armor, bit of ammo, magazine, and such on human enemies absorbs a certain amount of damage from gunshots and is flung off of the person.
tl;dr
You aren't hitting unprotected areas that's why they aren't dying.
[editline]14th June 2017[/editline]
This was removed in Redux versions because properly aiming out the weak spots is too hard apparently.
"hurr durr terrible shot" as i last recalled that didnt really matter because either way you did headshots or not the TTK and gunplay felt super weak. Anyways doubt it's my aim because it's far from bad considering i've played shooters my entire life.
It felt shit, and the gunplay made me yawn. The way they did it in redux was a godsend because it didn't make me fall asleep halfway through a firefight. And most people wasnt aware of what you just said, even i didn't know that. If its true or not it was badly executed.
I prefer like they do in Stalker mods, enemies die from 2 shots and so do the character you play.
I prefer like they do in Stalker mods, enemies die from 2 shots and so do the character you play.
Then play the game in ranger hardcore??? Because that's literally what it does.
Then play the game in ranger hardcore??? Because that's literally what it does.
I would if i had known???
But redux came out so there was no need!!
[editline]14th June 2017[/editline]
And isnt it kinda shit that you have to play the hardest difficulty for the game not to be tedious?
I hope we get some actual gore this time.

"I'm a big stalker fan"
obviously not
"I'm a big stalker fan"

Obviously I am i’ve played it for years and years - don’t really need to defend myself here. Metro 2033 the original felt super bad to play. And redux fixed it that’s all.
Point still stands that if a game MUST be played at the hardest difficulty it’s not exactly a good decision and limits casual players alot.
Stalker with mods doesn’t matter if its on master or on rookie difficulty. Enemies die in two hits anyways on master or not. In metro you HAVE to play the HARDEST difficulty to make the gunplay seem decent. And you can't just take your pick without the gunplay suffering. Reason i started using mods back in the day was to remove the bullet sponges which resides in vanilla stalker. Same goes for metro, it’s terrible.
for example in clear sky redux mod i think it was, made by a facepuncher did the gunplay extremely well.
For some reason the FOV change in my config file for 2033 just refuses to take effect, which makes the game feel unplayable.
And idk why you're complaining about the graphical changes, Redux looks 10x better?
It looks better, but I think the outdoor areas lose something from being dark (nighttime?) which gave a more oppressive less friendly atmosphere that the bright redux ones.
[sp]Makes the ending where you see the Sun (daylight?) for the first time have a bit more impact as well.[/sp]
Only part where it isn't a complete improvement in my opinion though.

Point is you're complaining about having to play a game on the hardest difficulty to avoid bullet sponge enemies when you have to do the exact same thing in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Ranger Hardcore == Master
He's pointing out the obvious hypocrisy.
Not only that, but you're comparing modded S.T.A.L.K.E.R. to vanilla Metro, it's an unfair comparison, especially since you're talking about casual players specifically who won't even be modding S.T.A.L.K.E.R. in the first place.

My point is that i wish i didn't have to mod or choose one specific category of difficulty just to get what i want - sometimes i want to chill with tons of ammo and as hard hitting weapons as they have on the ranger hardcore
Not an unfair comparison at all - casual players dismiss it usually for not feeling "right", also same reason stalker has a cult fanbase and for the game to feel super smooth you have to go on the hardest difficulty, which casual players usually wont touch and in stalker you have to mod it

You mean the entire point of having different difficulty levels?
Nor do you have to mod S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for it to play well.
Man, Last Light is atmospheric as hell. I'm super immersed!
Until I stumble across the 43rd pile of Metro novels...

Metro 2033 Redux has a poster for the Metro 2035 website behind your dad in the intro.

It's the only book that survived.

This was always extremely weird to me. The Metro 2033 book in the original Metro 2033 was a neat easter egg, but Last Light and the Redux versions just have them absolutely everywhere. Hell, there's even that book signing spot in the Theater station with the fucking massive piles of Metro books.
I mean, imagine seeing a Harry potter poster in every single scene of each movie.
"Oh look, something familiar, Roadside Picnic..."
"Oh look, something familiar, Roadside Picnic..."
Hey gotta admit that one was kinda good and could be easily missed by just wandering off. It's lot more under the radar than "HEY LOOK OUR GAME HAS A BOOK"
Alright, finished Last Light finally. Guess I didn't play enough balalaikas. Oh well :v:
Is there any mods for this game? I did a quick google search and found absolutely nothing.
Also, what settings should I use for the optimal Metro experience in Redux? I remember Metro 2033 you were supposed to play Hard / Ranger. Is that still the case?
There are no mods. IIRC, they planned to release tools for Last Light, but that never happened.
Ranger hardcore is the best way to play since you really have to manage how much ammo you use and think about how to engage enemies. The only downside is that the difficulty isn't smart about showing you hud elements, like when you need to mash E for a qte or choosing throwable items.
Unfortunately a lot of stuff got cancelled for Last Light. They even planned multiplayer at some point but playtesters didn't like it very much IIRC.
