also hog's fine, sometimes i get hooked as soon as i enter a fight and I'm like oh shit, but then I remember that's what hog does, outside of that i don't have many problems with him, you just gotta keep range and cover or use friendly tanks as meatshields and you're fine

after thinking of it a lot more i really like the idea of roadhog being able to toggle between ally-only or enemy-only hooks. the toggle itself is instant and each hook runs on their own cooldown. can you imagine if roadhog could pull a teammate out of a black hole or out of turret range? there's some really cool things you can do there. would actually give him the ability to help his teammates directly like other tanks do

Maybe to encourage players to stay out of Hog's line of sight (and reduce the hook combo problem as a result), give him a special property where he takes increased damage from behind. Players who get the drop on Hog - Reaper especially - get a big advantage, so naturally they'll try to do that more, rather than facing him head-on and getting wrecked. Meanwhile, Hog players need to be more mindful of their surroundings and use their heal more carefully, or rely on teammates to watch their back while they're making a push. In both cases, this would encourage better, smarter player behavior, conditioning others to make more of an effort to flank and ambush him, and instilling more situational awareness and group mentality into him. [editline]t[/editline] No damage nerf, no changes to him at all aside from this and the reduced critbox size, and I think we'd still see a marked improvement from all parties involved. Mechanics that reward skill will always be better at fixing these types of problems than DPS tweaks, because they move players away from the behavior that caused the problem in the first place.

Not really surprised that majority of the Roadhog mains are complaining that the nerfs happened because "people don't know how to deal with him." I've said this a million times already but Hook has little-to-no counterplay. "Bait the hook" is the most common answer I've seen to this, yet thats literally the equivalent of saying "pray the Roadhog player sucks." Good players won't miss/waste their hook, so at that point what are you supposed to do? Just let him keep getting kills and picks, causing your team to lose? [i]But now[/i] since he has a harder time 1-shotting targets, getting hooked actually has counterplay, as most characters now actually have a chance to escape. His previous guaranteed 1-shot bullshit can go fuck off, this is honestly the best balance change I've seen happen to the game since the original FTH got nerfed.
Honestly with him being less damage and not being able to one-shot constantly I'd be okay if the hook was back to 6 second cooldown, that's the only thing I can think of to throw them a bone.
lol why is afk timer in ctf even a thing. i sit on the flag as bastion so memeing fucktards that play winston cant back cap the flag, but since their winston was having issues getting to our flag there was nobody for like 4 or 5 minutes to attack, so i get afk kicked

[/QUOTE] You know what'd be a nice skill-based counter to the hook? If you know it's coming, face Hog and melee just before it hits you, you parry the hook away. He can still hook unskilled players, unattentive players, or players who are just spamming melee hoping to parry it, but if you can see him setting up for it and time it right, you won't get grabbed.
