At least be factual in what you're saying.
Platinum to GM, Hog is the most picked tank. The game is balanced around pub play, the pro scene doesn't matter.
using overbuff or masteroverwatch stats for pickrate is actually garbage you know that right? it'll be heavily skewed towards people that use the site. it's not indicative of the population at all.
Yeah, the best chart to check Roadhog's state is this one

See? His bear level is so OP, that's inexcusable, the Bara meta needs better balance than this and I hope the addition of Doomfist fixes this horrible issue.

What the fuck :v:
I feel like a good way to do Roadhog would be to go the route of Pudge:
1. Make the hook physics consistent, as a baseline. As far as I know, they've been made not entirely broken, so we'll say we can proceed with the next steps.
2. Make the hook somewhat slow. In DotA 2, most heroes move at around 350 to 370 units per second (with boots, but everyone buys boots), while Pudge moves at 325, and his hook moves at 1450, around 3x the speed of a normal hero's movement. Roadhog's hook moves at 40 meters per second, where most heroes move between 5 to 7 meters per second, making it 5-8x the speed of heroes. So, we reduce Roadhog's hook speed to somewhere around 20 meters per second, maybe around 15 if you want to be really aggressive with the speed reduction. This makes it harder to confirm hooks, adding an element of mechanical skill to landing them.
3. Slow Roadhog down compared to the rest of the heroes in the game, so that he has to be more adept with his positioning.
4. Make sure that he can one-hit any squishy he hooks. At this point, if you're getting hooked by Roadhog-- who now has to do a lot more in the way of timing and prediction to land it-- you deserve to die, unless he's made a mistake and pulled a tank.
so my guess for the new hero is two chimps standing on top of each other wearing people clothes
There is no defending shitty match making. When it happens, it happens
I'm saying stop chalking losses up to the stars under player's name like they mean a whole lot. Levels mean generally fuck all, something you judged the turn out of the game on before it even began
Also you can't complain about losing a game if you're literally admitting to practicing with a character in said game you aren't adept with, wtf
yeah, 'cause if those people are getting matched with you, you could probably go check their comp stats and see that they've probably got an average like 1600SR if they even play comp at all. higher levels just means they probably have more skins than you
My problem with matchmaking is that it usually puts the good team on the other team.
Honestly do wish you can set a preferred role before a match, that way you can make shitters that only play hanzo and genji and nothing else go away because queuing for an offensive hero role would take a long time

people say this kinda shit but theres an actual difference when for example your team gets someone thats like, level 10 compared to the enemy team not having someone like that and theyve all prestiged at least once (and yes, ive definitely had this happen before), theyll actually know ult callouts, combos that can be done, how each hero works, things that are specific to the game. meanwhile your level 10 is playing dva and using her as a sniper. levels dont determine skill but it determines your knowledge with the game.

If I could set my preferred character I'd love that, I wouldn't need to instalock Lucio/Ana/Zen, it would save me a lot of effort. I don't want to soloqueue because of this, I have this bad experience with people that outright refuse to let you play who you are best at "just cause". But then I also had some very nice people being very open to swapping characters on the go. I queue with some friends of mine but they finished their placements today and I have a feeling they might not play with me these last 4 matches I have to go.
I finished Season 2 at 2.5k-something points and my all-time-high was 2.8k, so I'm hoping to have decent placement this season too, but so far it's been 2 wins 4 losses. rip
I would buy $50 worth of lootboxes if we could get a mode where sniper heroes and Genji are not allowed.

Wait, since I'm new, is there like a list of characters able to deal critical hits? Didn't know Soldier's aim actually mattered.

Everyone except people with beam weapons and ana.

Critical hits aren't limited to a few characters, almost everyone in the Overwatch roster can acquire headshots. I know for a fact that Ana, Pharah, Winston and Junkrat can't get headshots due to the nature of their weapons.

Oh Reinhardt and Zarya too

All the offensive heroes minus Pharah, Bastion's Recon form, Torbjorn's shotgun, Mei's Icicle Shot, D.Va, Orisa, Lucio, Mercy's Pistol, and Zenyatta's orbs all do headshot damage. You'll hear a higher pitched sound when you inflict that damage.

I love that this is actually strategically beneficial for the Zen. Regroups with respawning team and doesn't feed enemy ult.
Up to 3124 this season.
Last Gibraltar game was so salty in the first round. We didn't get the first point by just a meter, yet we still won the game despite how much shit flinging salt was going around.
Just goes to show, never think its over till the end.
The fuck is going on with placements? A friend of mine that was diamond last season got place low gold.
I almost don't want to do my placements now.
Aren't placements based on how you performed with your chosen character(s) compared to a global average?
If so, playing well as a character that's very popular wouldn't place you as high as playing well with a character almost no one plays.
[editline]t[/editline]
Say, you get a 20-3 KD average as Hanzo, but your friend got a 15-4 as Orisa. Not many people play Orisa well, so they might actually place higher than you, at least assuming all other factors are roughly equal.
IF it works this way, that is. There's probably a lot more to it.

Don't forget Bastion's minigun, thank fuck it's ability to headshot was removed.
Placements this season seem to be a lot more lenient this time around
I'd like to step in here and note that pretty much all roadhog counters up into this point are only preventatives.
If I go Widow to fight Pharah, this ends in a dead Pharah
If I go Winston to fight Genji, this ends in a dead Genji
If I go Zarya to fight D.Va, this ends in a dead D.Va
if I go Mei to block Roadhog's hook, Roadhog is still alive. He's just mildly inconvenienced for 8 seconds.
The only hero who ever came close to being a true counter to Roadhog was Orisa, and I think we can tell how that turned out.
Preventatives aren't counters.
yeah good thing some of those heroes he listed actually destroy roadhog
"oh no i was flashbanged by mccree... oh no im dead from his 12 shot combo."
"oh no i'm asleep while hooking someone... oh no im dead because i'm woefully out of position as a flanking roadhog and i can't heal because of biotic grenade"
"oh no mei blocked my only exit as roadhog... on no im dead because i'm woefully out of position as a flanking roadhog"
somehow you're really surprised that a solo tank hero requires ~2 people to kill. where is your outrage over genji, who requires the same amount of people to kill?

just because roadhog has a higher pickrate doesn't mean he's op. perhaps you should be looking at winrate too? dva has a higher winrate than roadhog despite roadhog being an easy to play hero. please explain that.
I mean. If less people pick D.va. That means both wins and loses count for more in the percentage. Like I have a 60% winrate with Genji but have only played him in 15 quickplay matches.
So overall Roadhog might still have more wins then D.va. It's just D.va won more in fewer games then Roadhog so it gave her a boosted winrate.
I mean. If less people pick D.va. That means both wins and loses count for more in the percentage. Like I have a 60% winrate with genji but have only played him in 15 quickplay matches.
I'm not certain, but I think you're implying if two people play one hero, one has 2 games with 50% winrate, one has 4 games with 75% winrate, it would average out to 87.5% winrate win it would actually be 75% because it counts individual games. Winrate isn't counted on a player by player basis, only a game by game basis.
But yeah the reason why roadhog is picked so much is because he's fun to play. Notice all the filters Oizen used.
"Most picked tank heros played this month on PC on quickplay and competitive games as Grandmaster skill level"

If you set it with those same filters only, but to show competitive games only, it will show a completely different picture. Roadhog is picked less in competitive because he's more of a fun hero instead of a functional hero, and he's a solo hero that requires little teamwork to be optimal.
obligatory only people registered on overbuff are tracked by overbuff

Not only is that picture irrelevant, I was indeed wrong but the actual situation is only better for my argument
[t]http://i.imgur.com/dKn8ccW.png[/t]
This is all heroes in only competitive GM. I am not including quickplay because it's an even worse thing to base balance around than competitive. It's not fair to only compare him to other tanks either, but even in that case he loses to Reinhardt.
Everyone except people with beam weapons and ana.
Ah, okay. Even still, I'm just gonna be aiming center mass because fuck losing 75% of your potential hitrate to the game's recoil mechanics.
before everyone gets pissy about the result of their season 5 placement matches, don't forget that the system places you ~200sr lower than you belong.
before everyone gets pissy about the result of their season 5 placement matches, don't forget that the system places you ~200sr lower than you belong.
Is this actually true? I played one season and scored 2200, played another season just for the placement matches and scored 2050 despite being a better player than during that season.
If you think roadhog needs a nerf you're terrible at this video game
