Overwatch - It's Actually a Trick To Make Everyone Play HotS, also BUY
I mean, TF2 is darker in a lot of ways. Overwatch permeates this aura of optimism and camaraderie throughout its design, while TF2 revels in a sense of dark humor, macabre themes and lots of gore.
Remember, there's almost no blood in this game, let alone gibby explosions. They're two wholly divorced entities as far as tone is concerned, and that does carry over into the dialogue.
Agreed, but that doesn't mean 80% of all character interactions have to be "Hi *person*! You sure are cool!"
You've got all these great, snarky lines ("Get off my lawn", "Grownups are talking", "BRING ME ANOTHER", etc.) but they're all stuck as optional voice clips. It ends up making the characters feel super bland, since the automatic voice lines are stuff like "Wow Zenyatta! I wish I could be a Robo-Buddhist!" and "You're the real hero, Mei!"
All the comics and shorts are like "YOU SHOULD CARE ABOUT THE CONFLICT, THERE'S DEEP LORE HERE" but all the in-game stuff is comparable to a sleepy brunch.
I want Reaper to tell his teammates to "shut up already". There are all these heroes who are diametrically opposed to each other, plus general hardasses, so why can't there be more friction? I want some depth to the character interactions.

You don't fucking have anything to do with the display driver for VNC, fuck off and stop crashing for no reason
This happened again while I was trying to carry my team as Mei (the 4th time it's happened total in under a week?) :tableflip:
How?? How can an inactive display driver for fucking VNC of all things even remotely effect Overwatch in any way??
The top criminal though is that there's no "No" option on the voice wheel
They should make right clicking on "Acknowledge" be "Refuse"
I mean, if you hack a Tracer, they're pretty much dead meat, same with a Genji. Soldier, Reaper and Mccree can get by without abilities but there are certain characters that are super reliant on their abilities and those are the ones that should be top priority when it comes to hacking.
Fair enough, but my point was that these Sombra players are just hacking the DPS, and then staying in full view of not only them, but most of their team as well. Unsurprisingly they get wrecked in seconds.
From what I understand, if the target is still dangerous at close range, you're supposed to hack, use terrain to get on the opposite side of them without them seeing you, and shoot them in the back of the head. And if you're hacking a priority target in a group, hack and run, let your team take care of them.
Honestly I can't imagine Grumpy Old Fart :76 saying "Stars and stripes beats hammer and sickle, LOOK IT UP" after killing Zarya.

Replace all the healers "I need help" lines when they get attacked to this and no healer will ever be left alone again
Even then they're wishy washy bullshit. All that Ana has to say to the woman that took out her fucking eye, forced her into retirement, and almost killed her is a stupid joke about her not wanting an autograph
There is also a vicious one by Ana:
Ana: Gérard was a fool to love someone like you.
Widowmaker: You don't know anything about him.
But yes, there should be more offensive/insulting lines, maybe a mockery of other character's ultimates or quotes.
This is between characters who should by rights hate each other, don't get me started on the endless stream of "Wow [hero's name] you're great!" "Wow [other hero's name] you're great too!".
There are a few choice pieces of decent banter. But overall the writing is weak as fuck, largely because Blizzard don't have the balls to have heroes say anything mean, or generally emote any kind of real disdain for characters that should be their sworn enemies.
What? Do you wanted them all to go like this?
Hanzo: H-
Genji: CANDLE-SNIFFING FUCK FENCE GO CLIMB A WALL OF DICKS
I'd be fine with that, honestly.
oh no, an overextending teammate, gotta tell them to group up!
'Im with you!'
:why:
1v1 is way too sweaty and tryhard. Only got my loot box because someone left.
It's just bad
in china it's now illegal to sell gambling items in videogames (lootboxes), so for the china equivalent of $40 the chinese can purchase 120 coins and you'll get 40 lootboxes as a free gift.
i feel that we should be talking more about this
this, combined with the fact that blizzard were deliberately as vague as possible when it came to lootbox probabilities (and pack probabilities in Hearthstone), really does hammer home the point that blizzard are downright belligerent to the customer with their monetization schemes
i would absolutely implore anyone who is thinking of buying lootcrates to reconsider, just because we shouldn't be supporting such terrible strategies
i would also remind people that lootboxes are a gambling mechanic in a game that has a sizable number of children playing it
i wouldn't be OK with slot machines being targeted at children, and I'm sure as hell not OK with games having exactly the same gambling urge targeted, it's incredibly dishonest and wrong.

While that is right, Valve writers embraced the dark humor and completely went all-out with their lines. They also understood their characters better.
Overwatch has this optimism vibe to it and while that is not a bad thing, Blizzard doesn't try to go all-out with it, as Valve did. Their writing is really just... mediocre. And sometimes they just copy their lines to others, I think there are four characters that use the line "What are you lookin' at?". Blizzard doesn't seem to really understand their characters and is therefore not exactly capable of writing great lines for them.

A few examples:
- Here's a touching story. Once upon a time you died, and I lived happily ever after. The end.
- How's that bullet feel? Feel good? Heh? Oh my god you have been shot, did you look at the handsome rogue who did it?
- Not so smart with your brains OUTSIDE your head, are ya?
- Skill always beats luck.
- Here's some advice: Next time, Shoot First.

- I. Ate. Your. Sandviches! I eat them up!
- Diagnosis, YOU SUCK.
- Hey, if you didn't want me to kill ya, you should have said something!
- (When encountering an enemy scout:) Hit the road bozo, let a real Scout get to work!
- If you order now, I'll throw in a second beating for absolutely free!
Hearing those lines and interactions between the characters in TF2, they completely make fun of all the characteristics of the others and what roles they fit in. Scout joking about eating Heavy's sandviches, how Medic shoots medicine, Sniper making fun of Demoman's missing eye, Soldier hating everyone who isn't Soldier, Spy making fun of characters screaming for a medic. The writing is just so well done. They just went with it and I wish Blizzard did the same with Overwatch in its own respective way.
One is a team of actual psychopaths, the other is a team of superheroes (guest starring Talon)
Lucio's Jazzy skin is just perfect and I'm really glad I found one in a loot box
The jazz sound effects they added to it are great. Really damn annoying after a while too.
I had a ton of clips stored so I decided to put them all together again.

Okay, I get it, they're trash characterization, but it took until 2009 for TF2 to even begin to have ingame lines between the characters.
It sets a baseline, of course, but it took a year and a half for the characters to even talk to one another

Isn't about saving fucking OW, is about trashing TF2 ins't it?
OW has half a year left then :v: But don't hold your breath

Yeah, talking to another. But the normal lines were already in from day 1 + there are the excellent Meet the character videos.

If you actually think OW is going to have voice lines anywhere nearly as characteristic as TF2's anytime in the foreseeable future, you are in for disappointment.
It's all but clear Blizzard has a specific vision for the game. All of the meaningful lore takes place outside of the game and even then the lore isn't that meaningful.
The problem with overwatch's optimistic future shtick is that it's still diametrically opposed to the gameplay. You're still just a bunch of morons murdering each other for no reason, at least in Tf2 they acknowledge it.
Overwatch is trying to be "look I'm a super hero" which ends up being generic and boring rather than "a bunch of hired mercs who have mental issues"
The issue is that they try to market it to appeal to a lower common denominator and to get a specific age rating.
They went full disney on this.
For example, there is no gibs, bloodshed, or any form of gore, and no swearing in the voice over.
Overwatch is trying to be "look I'm a super hero" which ends up being generic and boring rather than "a bunch of hired mercs who have mental issues"
Except only Pyro and Soldier truly have mental issues.
Also feels like Blizzard wants to give the community something based on their interpretation of the characters, rather than stick with their original personalities.
I just want more of Roadhog telling people to shut up and killing because he feels like it at that moment in time.
Except only Pyro and Soldier truly have mental issues.
everyone in TF2 is a mass murdering psycho who acts like a mass murdering psycho, because you spend the entire game killing scores of random strangers for basically no reason
despite overwatch also being, at its core, a game you spend killing scores of strangers, none of the characters act like you're actually killing anybody or that anything you do has any weight at all because they're all watered-down superheros while the tf2 mercs are, like the player, murderes that just have a good time killing people, while everyone in overwatch acts like they're the protagonist of children's tv shows (except maybe reaper and roadhog) despite the fact you're also, apparently, killing people by the dozen
I don't have a problem with them the idea of a superhero game, but if they wanted to make a superhero game they should have made a superhero game, not a "shoot people dead for no reason" game.
Overwatch's whole aesthetic feels like it was made for a co-op game about a team of cheesy super heroes fighting against evil robots (read: Uprising). When I played Uprising, I really liked the atmosphere because it worked. Graphics, music, voices, correlated perfectly with what was happening on the screen. [sp]And hearing Morrison congratulating our work with the victory fanfare playing left me with a big happy smile.[/sp]
I have a legit problem
I'm used to playing a support or tank or whatever because my aim is awful. This morning though I decided I wanted to get some achievements and broke out of my comfort zone in QP just to mess around with Bastion and Attack characters, and while I used to play a lot of Genji I was never super super good with him or anything.
I am making the dumbest plays in my life and it's just working. I don't know why but it is. I'm constantly on fire and getting POTG's and in my mind it feels like I should be throwing for doing utterly stupid shit.
I'm so confused.
