This is so much more interesting. If this is how Mei looked I'd probably main her. Meanwhile I've yet to put a single minute into her post-release outside of all-random.
Really? To me, it looks like more or less the same design as we have now, except with the same body type as 90% of the other female characters in this game, a drab personality and slightly more interesting gun.

Chances are if someone is doing nothing but solo rezzing they weren't good rezzes.

Her personality now is drab. She's a cartoonish stereotype, just like every other character. Shes the "bubbly but shy smart girl".

I hate total mayhem.
I think all these people are just venting their hatred at Mei for every time they've had to look into her eyes, frozen, while she lines up her icicle shot
So yesterday I decided to put aisde this Anniversary event once and for all, spending my usual ten bucks per Overwatch event hoping for the best and puchasing the things I really thought I couldn't miss with the relatively few coins I had (4500).
I'm not a collectionist or a man obsessed with virtual cosmetic goodies in a multiplayer videogame: I had in my sight for the whole time a grand number of two skins (Tracer's Graffiti was like a bonus objective of sort), three dance emotes and four voice lines or something. That said, I'm kinda sad and annoyed about the fact I didn't get anything I wanted out of this event. Like, nothing, even with the ten purchased boxes. I had to spend my coins for everything, to the point I had to forgo some stuff due to coins constraints (for instance, I managed to purchase Lucio's Jazzy, but I kissed Cyborg:76 goodbye).
Yes, if I cared that much I could had just well grinded the event more, but to be honest I'm currently in a phase of my life where I can't play videogames as much as I used to. And grinding in general in something that I hate when it becomes paramount to a bloody chore, and I think I currently need more relaxing games in my life, not "full time job" multiplayer shenanigans.
Yes, we are talking about virtual goodies, but, as I said, I didn't want all of them: I wanted, like, less than the 20% of them. Just the only ones I cared about, which are now lost forever. And I think it can be argued that one of the main "attraction" of these events, for better or worse, is trying to get the cosmetics you really like.
Yes, there was a double-exp week end, but I'd argue that if the RNG loot system is rigged against you by default, the actual number of loot boxes you can farm for yourself becomes miningless on the long run.
I thought Uprising was the worst Overwatch event yet, but at the very least it had a nice PvE temporary mode and I thought this horrible trend was going to stop. Comes Anniversary and there's nothing worthwhile on the table, except the new loot boxes gambling galore which is filled with features that, at this point, I must really conclude where developed to prevent people to unlocking the "main" cosmetics stuff naturally, such as:
1) Two voice lines per hero that doesn't fit with the event at all and amount to pure filler (let's remember that events like Halloween and Christmas had one voice line per hero)
2) On the same note, filler-ish player icons
3) A pittance of coins for duplicate, especially considering the odds of bumping into them and the price of event-related items
4) The removal of the "promotion experience rate bonus", which served no clear deep in-gameplay purpose otherwise
5) Inability to spend real life money to buy the desidered cosmetic or even purchase a certain amount of in-game coins (barring the recent news from China)
Maybe I'm blowing this out of proportions, guys, but honestly I'm getting a tiny bit sick of this freemium bullshit, especially since this is, we should remember, a retail game. I mean, even nowadays Valve allows people to buy nearly all the cosmetics that get released in any given update for real money in the in-game store, and if you buy more than once chest of random cosmetics in Dota 2 the game will remember what you already unboxed and generate something new (till you expire all the alternatives, that is). Hell, many of you already noticed the more generous system deployed in Heroes of the Storm, another Blizzard game.
It also doesn't help that the developers really seem like they are toying with us or something on the subject. After Uprising they promised they were working on non-event bound cosmetics: here came Anniversary. They keep insisting that they are "listening" to the complaints about the loot system, but can't seem to be bothered to learn from their mistakes. I'm afraid even the double-exp week end was a last ditch effort on their part to gain sympathy from the playerbase and simply dodge the issue.
I'm sorry, I just needed to write this down somehwere.

I'd rather have that gun then the ice shooting hair dryer she has now.
I do understand why they went with the gun design we have now, though: it's a lot more unique. The gun in that concept art looks cool, but honestly, a little bit generic. You could see it an pretty much any scifi game, and it could shoot pretty much anything. What we have now makes it more clear that it's ice-themed, and its design is just weird, and that's a good thing.
That said, fuck Mei.

No thanks. :vs:

I have no gripe with Mei's gameplay, just her voice. For someone who is willing to go kill other people, let alone do it by freezing them alive and putting an icicle through their skull, Mei's personality just doesn't seem right.
Don't get me wrong I know the game isn't meant to be gritty and serious, but still. I feel a lot of people dislike her overly innocent cutesy personality and voice more than the gameplay.

If she was this frigid bitch with a matching personality and voice I think a lot of people wouldn't have a problem with her.
TBH concept art Mei there just looks like she would have ended up being another 100 pound model level attractive flawless hotty like the game already has too much of (not that I think mei's final design is that great either)
other than some additional fur on her boots, some kneepads, and a different ice gun the design really doesn't differ that much besides her weight
It's more than looks but also the personality in her face is more sinister compared to current Mei

Total Mayhem is the training ground for Mercy killing. It helps understanding why you should focus on her at least :v:

Junkrat outdamages Captain Oldman: 1776 and Sombra is actually useful.

everyone loves a little bit of Mercy focus now and then, even the Mercy players love it

brings a tear to my eye :')
That concept art is so much better than the final result I felt physical pain
Eh it just makes her look less interesting and puts her more in line with the rest "slim supermodel" female characters (not to throw shade at them, but variety is a good thing).
Frankly, I still think this is her best concept phase by far. She'd be one of my favorite looking heroes in the game if they went with this look.

It fits her cheerful cute personality without going as far as her final look, gives her a more unique silhouette than that earlier concept, and still makes her look like she could hold her own whereas her final appearance doesn't look like a fighter at all.

As much as I like her design as it is now because it's not yet another "ice character with cold personality" stereotype this design is also really nice

I ust like the gun since it looks like something serious and not a fucking hairdryer.
So close to plat. (1-2 wins away) lose a match bc of a hanzo who wouldn't switch and never got ults out and saved them the whole match
okay not bad, ill just win 3
nah jk, same guy AGAIN (despite waiting 5 mins)
he chose fucking junkrat and fed enemy zarya

If they ever get 'master' skins, this should be mei's.
If they ever get 'master' skins, this should be mei's.
I would LOVE to see it in the game, but I can't see them adding skins that would change the silhouettes that dramatically.
Honestly I'm fairly happy with Mei. To me, she subverts two things; first is the ice queen archetype and secondly what a "pyro" is meant to be.
I feel she is the game's pyromaniac character, even if she wields ice and is a very cute & innocent character. To me, this makes her a very unique and enjoyable character.
The least is Zarya having that concept art skin, honestly. :v:

This one although it'd be weird since she has Siberian but it can be played off as a reference to her dialogue with Mei "I'll tell you my secret if you give me the coat"
Oh I thought you were referring to a Zarya concept art skin.
