Anyone up for creating some sort of collaborative Facepunch do's and dont's for competitive Overwatch in the OP?
We could vote on the ideas we agree on and it could teach players here who are struggling to climb some crucial pointers (such as not randomly fire striking every chance you get while shielding as Reinhardt) as well as helping myself and others something learn something new

I like this idea. I don't really have any general advice, but I could contribute to character specific advice and aiming tips.

Sweet, all input will be worth something. I was thinking about maybe we could start on team composition, how crucial it is, why it actually matters and what characters to use on certain maps etc that sort of stuff

I think some general tips we can all agree on are;
1.Don't main a hero in competitive. Inevitably you'll hit a situation where your hero can't be useful or someone else has them and then you're as good as if you weren't there. Get good at multiple.
2.Get good at heroes in multiple categories, like at least two if not one in all. Again, sometimes your team will be all good on DPS or tanks.
3.Use a microphone. Communication can make all the difference in the world. Being the first to talk can break the ice.
4.Don't get buttmad. Don't listen to shit talking. This will cause what is known as tilting, where your anger causes you to play worse, and affects you and your team's ability to play the game with a clear mind. Maintain a positive attitude even when you're losing and don't blame other people for everything.
As for Junkrat tips, I would put in;
1.You can mine jump, and if you wait before jumping for cooldown reset, you can jump twice. Should really know this in general.
2.Do NOT hang on to the Rip-Tire. It's one of the fastest charging ults in the game while also being one of the most inconsistently useful. Sometimes it wipes teams, other times it will get shot down in half a second. Trying to hold on for that 'perfect moment' will just result in you putting all your eggs in one flimsy ass basket. Getting one or two kills and like 4 ults a game is better than using the ult once and getting none.
3.The rip-tire is best used in angles that will surprise the enemy. Drop it down on them from above. Have it roll in from behind. Have it turn a corner too close for them to respond. Use the wall climbing ability. Aim for squishies and especially supports. Don't prematurely blow it, but if you let too much time pass, then it won't end up getting much kills if any. The moment your rip tire goes, their team is going to be trying to disband in to different directions, so don't waste time.
4.If you encounter one, always keep a trap between you and Reinhardt. If he knows it's there he won't be able to charge you, if he doesn't he can get himself caught and give you some free shots or a chance to run away.
5.A mine can send a charging rein flying off uselessly in to the distance.
6.There's not really any reason to not put a trap mine combo at the enemy team's door when on defense, before the game starts. If nobody sees you then you can nab a free kill or some ult charge at least.
How to get out of gold: You don't
But really would be nice to have an area with tips people may not know or how to improve their aim.

These are basically platitudes at this point, but for hitscan weapons, you're going to want a large space to aim with low sensitivity if you can manage that, and you're going to want to learn arm/wrist aiming. Also, just relax your arm and try to manage your stress because stress is actually probably my biggest problem when aiming. As for projectile characters, you will get a feel for your projectile speed, and everything will be all about reading your opponent's movement. Keep an eye out for things that force linear movement like pharah's blast or wall climbing genjis and hanzo and lucios.

Also projectiles don't inherit velocity which is actually really counter intuitive in my opinion. If you're moving in the same direction as someone, you will still have to lead your shots. It takes a while to get used to, and even hitscan characters do this because of how shots are calculated in overwatch, but it all boils down to aiming slightly ahead of your targets when you're moving in whatever direction you're moving in

Also a really big thing about aim is that once you have everything set up, a large amount of your kills will come from good positioning, coordination and reads. Don't think your skill is directly tied to your aim. Aim will come over time, but you can still learn bad habits for actually playing the game much easier than just aiming.
your sensitivity should be such that you can perform a full 720 with a flick of the wrist - many will attempt to deceive you and have you believe that low sensitivity is better, but these people are Clowns with feeble, feminine wrists, jealous of your ability
If you play Rein, set your sensitivity to max for 360 degree hammering.

Every Tribes player plays Overwatch now, except for Fire who is playing Paladins for some reason.

Lucio hooked her up with the best sound equipment.
Reinhardt will probably have the biggest DO'S and DO NOT's since few characters can effect the game as much as he can... while a good Reinhardt can put the team ahead, a bad Reinhardt can single-handedly cost the team more than any other
Here are a few examples I see people regularly doing in competitive
Reinhardt:
If you're playing Rein and shielding your team against the enemy plus their Reinhardt and you start getting shot from behind/the side, DO NOT start panicking and start spinning around to see where it's coming from and shield it. Literally just ignore it. The moment you start looking about, your shield moves with you and you and the team get barraged from the enemies in front of you. Before you know it, you've all been wasted because a successful Tracer managed to distract your focus off the actual danger. You are a TANK. You're supposed to soak up damage even without your shield, it's the reason why your HP pool is so large to begin with. Trust in your healers to top your HP up, trust in the other team mates (who SHOULD also be behind you) to deal with the problem. The HP boosting from your healers will not only keep you alive if done properly but it'll also get them their ult charged quickly.
DO treat the shield as an extension of your team, it is not solely your ability alone. Playing Reinhardt is a responsibility and takes up the role as a shield for the entire team, you keep the soldier's and low mobility heroes alive while they keep other heroes alive and pummel the enemy back. If you're not spending most of your game time in front of another player letting THEM deal the damage, you're squandering Rein's biggest asset. That's not to say you chase every member of your team up to shield them - there will always be that one genius running into places they shouldn't be (like overextending into their half of the map) and you're not expected to help them - They've marked themselves for death and having you rush off will likely only have you join your departed team mate. The same goes for flankers, characters like Genji and Tracer and who dip into enemy lines are, with the exception of long ranged healing, generally on their own
DO know WHEN to attack and when not to. Reinhardt has a lethal move set which can unfortunately cause some players to lose sight of what his role really is and often use him as another DPS with a shield ability. Fire strike charges a generous amount of ult energy when it connects, it's powerful, it can't be shielded and is long range which makes it extremely tempting to use at every given chance. But as said above, you lower your shield in order to use this and when against another team, facing a barrage of attacks, you put everyone who was behind it at risk. It only takes a second of stray helix rockets or a hook to grab the unfortunate Zenyatta who was keeping you alive while discording the enemy to get picked. I can't count the amount of times I've put the enemy Rein to sleep as Anna while waiting behind my own shield knowing full well their Rein is going to fire strike and drop their own shield.
DO communicate what you're about to do. His charge attack is a popular one which can cause the most amount of headaches for either team depending on how it's used. Most correctly use it as a last resort or to deny ground to crucial characters like a Mercy trying to revive her team, although can it can be used successfully to break through enemy lines when paired with Zarya's bubble protection. In cases like these, communication is your team and letting know what you're about to do is vital.
When up in close range and the enemy in your face that's where his offensive abilities shine. He'll down most heroes in a few hits and we all know about how insane his ultimate is. Feel free to wail down the hammer without fear, a good team will focus their healing on you and you'll often be the first choice to receive Anna nano boost. But DO all of this while prioritising shielding the team.
These are just some pointers I can think of (and are also just my own opinions until the Facepunch consensus says otherwise), I'm not exactly the most eloquent poster and it probably could do with some reformatting but there ya go
(Sorry for the wall to the people just here just talk about their favourite game :P )
