Overwatch - It's Actually a Trick To Make Everyone Play HotS, also BUY

Got in a match with a top 500 widow player who insulted my skill level (diamond), so I switched to Winston and stayed on top of them for the next three matches and trash talked them at the end of each match. They lost all three matches I stayed for.
i like how the rejoin match button does nothing when you click it.
good job blizzard :^)

The game does reward you for actively playing, and the microtransactions are just there to give you a shortcut.
Meanwhile on TF2 they kept trying to find more and more ways to get you to spend money, and keep locking shit like keys or event cosmetics either behind trading with the lovely economy, or just paywalls in general.
Tf2 is a free game. Overwatch locks most of their cosmetics behind RNG and limited time events. At least in Tf2 you can drop 50 cents on the market (and you can get that for free just selling trading cards) and get the cosmetic you want, in overwatch you have to grind for the cosmetics you want and it gets real fucking tiring. Can't tell you how many times I've wanted to play comp but instead had to grind 3v3 or god forbid ctf to get a chance at the cosmetics I want. It's not healthy for the game to force players to burn out playing the game constantly for a month for a chance at the rng boxes. I know for a fact that I've been getting rusty in comp from all the several week long breaks I'm taking from overwatch over burnout, and the time I have to spend on the arcade to get the boxes. I was diamond last season, now I've been struggling to stay above gold.

Also im suprised people havent caught on that no limits is the best way to get arcade wins because it runs on QP rules

The fact that TF2 did it worse doesn't excuse anything.
The event locked items are still grind or pay. The same problem F2P games have.
Its god dam cosmetics, seriously its trival shit to get worked up over
Cosmetics are still part of the game. People are free to complain about them as much as any other part of the game.
The issue isn't the cosmetics themselves it's locking them yearly to unnecessary events
Its god dam cosmetics, seriously its trival shit to get worked up over
People are frustrated that we're going on a year of borderline exploitative cosmetic microtransaction practices, how does that not justify people being upset?
People are frustrated that we're going on a year of borderline exploitative cosmetic microtransaction practices, how does that not justify people being upset?
Its only "exploitative" if you let it be
No one is forcing you to buy the next "shiny new skin" and even then you can still buy it with credits
Tf2 is a free game. Overwatch locks most of their cosmetics behind RNG and limited time events.
I also want to point out and remind you that tf2 drop system is filled with cosmetics and weapon drops with the dropsystem skewing to higher chance to get weapons over cosmetics
you get around 7-8 drops a week, with drops having to roll between tf2's 100+ weapons and cosmetics
OW's lootboxes at-least guarantee cosmetics of some sort
Its only "exploitative" if you let it be
So what I'm getting is "it's okay because I don't personally care about cosmetics and everyone who does is a baby, also this other free game has a system I like less!"

If the new skin is shiny, of course I'll be tempted to get it. Character visuals and self representation are a part of the entertainment, and it's not okay that in a full price game that aspect is locked away in such a way is not okay.
The option you're offering amounts to "stop caring" and that's bs.
I see cosmetics as a bonus. If I'm not enjoying the actual gameplay, then I might have a stronger reason to be upset about the way cosmetics/crates/events are implemented. I like playing the game a lot, and it's nice to have in game rewards for playing it, but my enjoyment and reason for playing comes from the game itself.

how many of those reveled anniversary skins are you "tempted" to get?
yeah its "stop caring" cuase its trivial shit to get corked up over
Oh god, are we getting to the "You don't HAVE to play the game!" excuse that never justifies anything?
I didnt realize that overwatch was about playing dress up with your characters
How about we let people that care about cosmetics care about cosmetics and vent when they don't like something about the system instead of talking down to them like "Didn't know Overwatch was a dressup game" or "They are just cosmetics who cares just play the game"
cosmetics are like 50%-75% of the content put into the game, so belittling them to not mean anything is foolish.
I think they should just have the cosmetics be purchasable from the moment they're released with real money and have the loot box as an option. Heck they could sweeten the purchase of skins by having loot boxes attached.

Meaning full content? There is a difference between "content" and content
How much of those 100 cosmetics added per event lootbox mean anything really vs:
Lucio ball?
Junkentiens and uprisings pve mode?
1v1 and CTF mode?
the new heros and the new maps?
Thats the real content added to the game

Can't wait to play some Lucio ball and some junkenstein and some more uprising oh wait they're event locked modes.
2 new maps is barely any content. 3 new heros is great though.

The first two things you listed arent even in the game anymore because they were part of a timed exclusive event, which Im pretty sure is what other people are arguing about

whether or not you find cosmetics to be actual content is irrelevant. the ow team does and plenty of other players do, and thats a majority of what they add (along with where they expect to make the most money.) i can also wear/use any event related cosmetics any time of the year (although they dont drop, i can still use them), whereas any event isnt playable until the next time it rolls around.

3 new maps actually. Ecopoint wasn't in the game at launch.
Also basically everything about Arcade wasn't in the game at launch either, nor was competitive.
They had brawls in on day one didn't they?
Yeah but it was only one brawl per week and those brawls don't even show up in the arcade anymore. The arcade is pretty far removed from those original brawls, custom servers are the only thing that's really comparable
They just need to add more non-event shit. The "value" of both regular and event boxes keeps going down because the more of them you've opened, the more duplicates you get. There needs to be enough of an influx of content to counteract that. I don't really mind event skins themselves though.
You know you could debate that you can have your chance to get cosmetics every year in their respective dates in every year, like Halloween, Christmas, Uprising (maybe) and the upcoming OW anniversary. It's kinda how World of Warcraft manages it too. But if that might be the case, how are they gonna justify or add long shot events like Year of the rooster (Every 12 years) and the Olympic games? (4 Years)?
It's a thing that really irks me, like, if I want something Halloween related, sure I can wait until October. But what if I want Mei's Year of the Rooster legendary skin?
So I did my placements for this season because I wanted the end of season rewards, makes sense and stuff and I did pretty well went 7-3. I got placed 2048. Honestly blizzard if you're gonna have your placed rank be based on previous season don't even do placements I bet if a new player with no history went 7-3 they'd probably get atleast mid plat. Granted I did play Support exclusively throughout all 10 games but that shouldn't put me any lower than DPS or Tank

if placement matches didn't take your last seasons rank into consideration it would have no starting point. when you take your first placement match ever it uses your quickplay performance to find a place to start. this is one reason why ranked is locked off until level 25.

Ok so sure it can take last into consideration but it does way more than that. All placements seem to end up as is they take your last season's rank lower it or increase it by a little bit and give you that again. I saw a guy win 1 game tie 1 and lose 8 he got placed above me. Why even have placments if they're just gonna use your last rank

I'd wager that the Year of the Rooster events and the Olympic games events are gonna' be annual regardless. The former can be included in any subsequent Chinese new year event and the latter a kind of a generic summer event.
