Bought two more boxes and STILL NO EVENT LEGENDARY kys Blizzard
is there anyway to timestamp chat?
HOLY SHIT! I made a skin mock up for Pharah, and Jen Cohn liked it, and now she's following me!
Why am I cursed to play a pretty good Tracer, yet find Tracer thoroughly grating to the point I dread playing her? [editline]25th May 2017[/editline] Her mechanics are fun but I really just wish I could tape her mouth shut
Out of my free anniversary crate (just bought the game now that it's on sale, played plenty every time there's been a free weekend) I got Genji's event dance emote [sp]and then literally 3 crates later got his event power ranger skin[/sp] [sp]Guess I'm learning Genji[/sp]
I just bought the game too and upgraded to the GOTY edition, I got Tracer's Charleston dance emote. I really want Mei's though
I want to treat a girl the way blizzard treats tracer
I want to treat a girl the way blizzard treats tracer
[sp]Pimping her?[/sp]
I want to treat a girl the way blizzard treats tracer
You wanna give her leg surgery?
I want to treat a girl the way blizzard treats tracer
Turning her ass into a shelf?
Turning her ass into a shelf?
No, that was Mei.
I want to treat a girl the way blizzard treats tracer
put her human skin in boxes and get creeps to pay for them?
My 2nd event legendary is Pharah's skin. IMO the ugliest looking skin in the whole update.
No, that was Mei.
I somehow misread 'tracer' as 'cancer' 4 times in a row. Considering Tracer is actually pretty okay that doesn't even add up, damnit. In the case of Tracer, they just broke her spine instead. I'm not sure which is worse.
Quick question. I heard the new Lucio's skin music Is the speed music supposed to be the normal one? Or is it some sort of bug at the moment?
Really though what the hell is going on with Tracer's spine: [t]http://i.imgur.com/E7IESGa.png[/t]
I managed to get Reaper's Dance as one of my first loot boxes for the event. Guess I'm lucky? [t]https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/777280944904146963/023BE5B3637611FFB55B504A722962999167E46A/[/t]
Does anyone else have a problem with Overwatch being an internet hog? Like. I can't even voice chat without my ping going through the roof and I can't even get out of spawn. No other games have this problem. Only Overwatch.
well gee, the only 2 event items i've gotten so far that isn't a profile icon or spray or voice line is soldier's dance and soldier's skin, 2 of the worst items in the event.
I think the thing that bothers me most about the lootbox situation is that it's so transparently just so they can farm microtransactions. Blizzard is all "oh, we have the most amazing fanbase, thanks for an amazing year, you're all wonderful!", yet it comes off as totally disingenuous considering the only reason they have for not improving parts of their product is "well if we fixed that yeah it would make people happy but we'd also rake in less money on lootboxes so yeah no go". Like, fuck's sake man, this is a full price game. I paid $40 for the standard edition because that was all I could afford at the time, and even that required reading a lot of fine print and clicking in the right place; I know plenty of people who paid the full $60 because they're either playing on console or didn't even know the standard edition was an option. They parade Jeff around to the public because people love him, but the business tactics beneath it all are really fucking scummy. It all just puts a super bad taste in my mouth. I could understand wanting to farm as much lootbox revenue as possible if this was a Free-To-Play game, but people paid money upfront, you'd think that would earn us the bare minimum respect from them that they wouldn't try to pull shit like this so blatantly.
Moreover, Blizzards attitude about "how it's been an amazing year, you are all amazing" is something that I really, really dislike. I hate it when companies do something that is rather scummy like locking stuff behind paywalls (back then you couldn't even buy event skins with ingame currency) and then Blizzcon happened and all they said: "You are amazing, it's been an amazing year", completely deflecting all the flak they get. - They don't really bother to improve their maps, they are still unchanged and lead to chokepoints after chokepoints which is no fun. Attackers don't get enough options and it's been over 1 year already. - Their patches and new systems for modes like Competitive turn out kinda shitty for people with real life jobs, as they require to play pretty much all the time - Every time they try to do something cool they just don't plan far ahead. Competitive: Cool, but your individual playstyle barely plays into account. So if your team sucks and you play good? Downrank. Random mode: Cool, random heroes, enjoy having 4-5 supports in attack. They could at least balance it out a bit. To not end up with so many supporters in attack. Mayhem mode: Cool, but we didn't bother to tweak certain abilities to not make them seem too op with the short cooldown. Enjoy a Winston fucking up your push for the payload. It's always anti-fun stuff. I'm barely having fun in these other modes. They always take one step forward and two steps back as they don't plan their stuff through. "It's been absolutely amazing". Even smaller developers bring in changes for their maps faster than Blizzard. In general I think Blizz is really bad at designing maps.
-good points-
The worst part is just how fucking lazy they seem. Total Mayhem? Just 3 settings tweaks, brilliant. I mean sure, it probably took some testing to find the right ones, but it wouldn't exactly take much effort to impove it by tweaking individual heroes. And it took them what, 8 months? Just to make Eichenwalde less horrible by adding one corridor, sure, it probably took some playtesting (and an hour or two of mapping), but what in the shit were they doing in that time? [editline]26th May 2017[/editline] Not to mention Genji, whose bugs they've barely acknowledged while he's the most blatantly broken hero, not that I play him much (I'm fucking dreadful with him) but holy shit it is obvious. I've said this before but just watch the healthbars when you see a Genji PoTG and see if you can spot any ghost hits which produce the hitmarker and sound but do zero damage, in the fucking serverside replay.
That bit about the game modes is something I actually don't see anyone mention; does anyone actually enjoy the Arcade? And I don't mean just to farm lootboxes, I mean does anyone actually devote more time to, say, Capture the Rooster, rather than Comp? I remember when the game came out, all the detractors mentioned how the game was full-price despite having basically 3 and a half game modes (not counting hybrid maps like Numbani as an original mode, since it's just half Control Points, half Payload). Blizzard of course promised to add more game modes through patches, but that doesn't help that the new modes are 1) nowhere to be found in comp and 2) poorly implemented trash. Like, I'd definitely say I've got my money's worth, considering the amount of time I've put into the game, but I honestly don't know if I'd recommend it to a newcomer at full price, considering how the only new, worthwhile content to come out since launch (in terms of gameplay) is the new characters. The maps all look very pretty but are still poorly designed and optimized, the new gameplay modes feel borderline untested half the time, and skins are purely cosmetic. I know designing, developing, and building these characters takes an insane amount of work, so I'm not expecting more than 2 or 3 a year (which is honestly fine, considering how they only require minor tweaks here and there after release, compared to the constant random balance overhauls new weapons in TF2 used to get), but it feels a little off when the vast majority of new content we're getting is either entirely cosmetic (and designed to suck yet more money out of players through microtransactions) or totally mediocre. Honestly, I'd rather they cut down on annual events in favor of balance overhauls and general facelift-type updates. We've gotten some really cool skins, but I'd much rather have some new, fun game modes and maps that won't kill me when I get caught on a piece of geometry sticking out of the wall rather than some cools skins I have a 2% of actually getting. [editline]26th May 2017[/editline] I don't mean to be so critical, since I really do have my fun with this game, but this is exactly the kind of stuff that turned me off of TF2 a while back, only Blizzard is doing it literally within a year of the game launching, whereas it took about a decade for Valve to start neglecting actual gameplay in favor of microtransaction cosmetic goodies.
....most of my gameplay time is in Arcade.
Back then I thought it was a good decision by Blizzard to take a slower approach towards updates. They said: "We will do less frequent but more meaningful updates". Now I hate this system. There haven't been any huge updates that really improved the game. Blizz approach to improving the content always seems kinda right and then they just fuck up at the end. They put more time and work into events (and the skins they can sell) without actually putting effort into the gamemodes or maps. I played 1vs1 yesterday, it wasn't really fun. Part of it are the "gg ez" shitbags too and Blizz can't change it. Capture The Flag is simply awful, zero fun. Overwatch isn't the kind of game made for this mode. Random Heroes, if it was a bit balanced out I would probably enjoy it. But the 4-5 supporters in attack happens too frequently. Mayhem, as I wrote, cool idea but in the end no fun because everybody is bullet spongy. Heroes like Winston and Tracer are sooo absurdly annoying to defeat due to the low cooldowns. Absolutely anti-fun and I wouldn't play any of these modes if they didn't give loot boxes. Whenever I'm done with the 9 wins, I just stop playing those modes.
Honestly, I'd rather they cut down on annual events in favor of balance overhauls and general facelift-type updates. I feel like Blizzard have sorta set themselves up for dealing with unhappy players who will expect the same level of new content 6 times a year. The more level headed thinkers who are willing to say "I'm willing to have less of an event this time if it means more time spent on map changes / bug fixes / non-event related content" are probably in the minority. But that's just how I see it playing out, I don't really have any evidence of this but I get the feeling the opinions of people in this thread are in the minority of the Overwatch playerbase as a whole.
....most of my gameplay time is in Arcade.
I'm trying to find a way to get the most XP points possible so i can get these damn loot crates. That being said, does arcade seem to help you more than qp or comp does?
Competitive: Cool, but your individual playstyle barely plays into account. So if your team sucks and you play good? Downrank.
Idk if there's any realistic solution to this issue though, any system where you can gain rank when you lose the game by getting high enough stats is going to lead to people farming kills or damage or whatever instead of playing the objective. Even if they made it objective time or something it will lead to situations where people throw themselves at a point to gain some extra obj time even when the point is clearly lost and they're just going to stagger the team. Basically any system that puts gives more weight to certain stats than they give to actual win/loss rate is going to lead to conflicts where a player is incentivized to do something other than try their best to win the game. You can't create an algorithm to find out whether or not a certain action is going to do the best job of helping the team win. There's no way to know whether or not a particular action at a particular time is more or less likely to help the team win, you have to just broaden it out and look primarily at win/loss rate.
