You know, I'm starting to see why Blizzard doesnt allow something like steamcharts. It would be a PR nightmare explaining that 10-20% of the playerbase turns up for the events and then turns the game off a few days later to play something else.

Valve have no stockholders to please and basically have infinite money so it's a little unfair to compare anyone to them.

Most of the things in WoW expansions can be done within 2-3 months, so a lot of people don't really have an incentive to stay. And the WoD expansion didn't really add more stuff over time, afaik. Since then they've started to slowly roll out the expansion content rather than deliver it all at once. Overwatch would most certainly show similar spikes, as that's exactly how it handles most of the content as well. [sp]Except event content can't be accessed for another 50 weeks after it has ended.[/sp] Wouldn't mind if they made similar changes after all the feedback and news articles, though.

This has less to do with them as a private company and having a lot of money and more with the games they have developed. In the end, Blizzard and Valve are both (DON'T GO ONTO ME FOR SAYING THIS) game developers. If Blizzard fears low continuous player numbers, then they should develop a more fun game. Just like how Valve did with their top most played MP games. If players turn off the game and only return for events in Overwatch, maybe the game is at fault?
