But I only want Yuri. Just Yuri.
Disregard what I said.
[sp]Originally, I deleted Monika as soon as I could. On my second playthrough I stayed with her and listened to everything she had to said. Now I only need fucking monikammmmmmmmmmm.[/sp]
I used to dread going to work because things usually went bad.
But now I'm not afraid of bad days anymore, because Monika said I can go to her if I'm having a bad day, and she will take care of me

will she fuck you tho?
will she fuck you tho?
Probably not. She did says she gets romantic when the mood is right, but the ambience of that room is kind of screwy, and the music scares me
monika is best but natsuki is close second
protect smol tsun cupcake
the girls are something to write home about (literature) [sp]and memes[/sp]
I'd like to think that Monika is designed to be the objectively best girl because [sp]the game is trying to mess with you by making her unattainable yet the most desirable. She's smart, popular, talented, outgoing, positive, and is most attractive in terms of conventional beauty standards, yet you always end up with one the other 3 girls.[/sp] I know my first playthrough I thought I was going to hook up with her yet got stuck on the Yuri route and just assumed I could open up the path through another playthrough, not knowing what was to come.
I thought Yuri is the one designed as honeypot, so the players lusted for and chooses her first, and then make Monika as the victim (people didnt choose her because she doesnt stands out)?

The main plot point of the game is that Monika herself [sp]wasn't PROGRAMMED to be a potential love interest for the player but only a support character, hence why, once she acquires the knowledge to tamper with the game's files, she tries to FORCEFULLY insert herself into your choices in more and more desperate attempts till she breaks everything.
She tells you as much during your first, shall we say, romantic session[/sp].
Yuri is supposed to be your typical (and apparently very popular) VN "shrinking violet but thoughtful" love interest, as much as Sayori is the cheerful childhood friend girl and Natsuki is the tsunedere (and/or the loli-like option, if you are into that stuff)
How is someone who makes jokes after [sp]a friend kills themselves[/sp] considered the most desirable? lol
She's not her friend~
Monika is different. Even their character file size are different.
Surely you don't call a bacteria that you squash everyday your friend right~
How is someone who makes jokes after [sp]a friend kills themselves[/sp] considered the most desirable? lol
Well that's [sp]after everything went to hell[/sp]
How is someone who makes jokes after [sp]a friend kills themselves[/sp] considered the most desirable? lol
It's less about character traits and more about [sp]the fact you can't have Monika either, it's a two way street. That's what makes her desirable, because you can pick and choose among the original three, but Monika is unattainable which therein makes her more appealing.[/sp]

Er, Monika very directly calls them her friends in [sp]her epilogue speech.[/sp]
In fact, she's even repentant there saying that [sp]"her friends don't have free will" and how remorseful she was of the things she did to them[/sp]
This game made me think about replaying Katawa Shoujo, actually
I wouldn't advise going back to Katawa Shoujo after playing Doki Doki.

I honestly expected Lily to tear Monika apart, but the video was funny nonetheless
Watching Danny Avidan realise exactly what kind of game DDLC is made me very, very happy. Should I be worried?
aight so might play the game next week
just to be sure, [sp]for the good ending i have to do all the girl's paths before sayori kills herself? once ive seen them all i continue with act 2, right?[/sp]

Exactly.
You must accomplish this by playing each on a different save file and also be sure to save each [sp]before you discover Sayori's fate[/sp].
Don't worry if at a certain point it'll seem all your progress will be discarded, because the game will actually remember what you've done
cant believe it took me this long to think of whether or not there was an FP thread for DDLC

Even though he's made headlines, I still have a hard time believing Lushsux is real.
Likewise. I can't go into the details but I think in the end that game changed me as a person, and for the better.
The only route I can say I didn't like was Emi's, but I can't still decide if that may be because I simply "didn't get it" (like many people say) or because its writing is just subpar conpared to the rest
The only Katawa Shoujo route I would deem bad was Shizune. The rest ranged from average to good.
Shizune's route was all over the place and didn't work at all imo. Very little relationship development and one weird choice that just shouldn't be there.

Her Act 1 might still might be my favorite of the bunch, but as the route goes on it's not so great. It gets a bit scatterbrained as well. After Act 1, I didn't really like Shizune herself that much. Instead, I found the whole thing of learning sign and the logistical and social impact, implications, and consequences of being deaf much more fascinating than the character herself. It actually got me looking up a bunch of stuff about sign language and the deaf community, which also had me thinking there were some missed opportunities that could have been explored in the particulars of how signing works. I got way more invested in Misha as a character, and by the end all I really cared about was whether or not Misha was happy.

Shizune's route from Katawa Shoujo is basically a tale about friendship and trust which delivers its message in the end althought it takes its sweet time and there are some pacing stumbles.
Rin's route instead is all about trying to follow the philosophical rantings of a very unusual kind of girl across several hours of gameplay. If you do manage to connect the dots and understand Rin's view on life and others then the route is an interesting and enjoyable experience. If you don't then you may not "get" what exactly the deal is and feel like you wasted your time.
For the record no, I didn't "get" it either

Honestly, Rin's route was great because it showed a lot of character depth and involvement. She shared a lot of issues that normal teenagers have at that age. It felt like her disability became second to her existential dread as a young woman who just followed the flow of things. It made her character feel relatable and human, which is what I'm looking for when I'm playing a character-centric visual novel. I don't feel like understanding the whole philosophical aspect was as important, as being present during that hard part of Rin's life. She felt consumed by the pressure of those around her, and she couldn't even feel who she was anymore, and all you were there for was support. That support eventually gives her the strength to stand up to the expectations she has been unfairly been put up with.
I generally think that routes are better the more they show the relationship and true emotions going within the character you are involved with. It's not about how many twists they can put in, or how many secrets that characters hide within their heart, but the progression where you learn about them and can support them. Extra points when the protagonist shares his own worries and difficulty with them. Relationships are partnership where both partners have to work together through good and bad times, and come through stronger.
Visual Novels in general are better when the characters you spend time with are developed as human beings with flaws and strengths... Shizune's route threw you right off the bat to meet a family you didn't care about, while barely expanding who Shizune was as a character. And when that's done and they could've spent the time giving the character more depth, you're thrown with a potential adulterous relationship with a choice. And then it just... ends.
Compare that to the other characters, whose route generally builds their relationship up with Hisao, as well as expose some deeper flaws and strengths, and it's just bad by comparison.
Rin’s route was absolutely fantastic, I think it was the best as a story overall. Even though I liked Emi the most, Rin’s route was my favorite
